  1. I do not know if block heater is being used. according to the obd theory is should detect if block heater is being used. the run time is what I can not figure out. if I drive the vehicle a let it sit for a couple of hours I can not get this spread in temp difference. it does have a new pcm in it.
  2. this is a national guard vehicle. it does idle a lot. I have been fighting this for about 3 years now. about every 6 months it will set this code and tech line has been no help. I have replaced eot and ect sensors overlayed eot sensor wiring replaced pcm. flushed coolant last time hot line said to check valley in upper oil pan for plug disloged internally. I did not see an issue but replaced it and the oil cooler. 2 months later it came back and hotline again suggested an overlay. I can never duplicate the issue sets overnight and the sensors read the same and when I drive it they both increase and stay with in 4 degrees of each other. does anyone have a suggestion on what I can do to resolve this? thanks for any help.
  3. Looking for some insight before I look at this truck. The truck came in for this code and another tech put in an oil cooler but the code came right back. Eot is 224 and ect is 198. Ppt states to replace oil cooler but I do not believe it will fix the issue. I have not monitored enough temp pids to know what is normal. I think it could possibly be a cooling system issue. I have read about issues with cavitation and thermostats. Should I also check egr like on the 6.0. Egr cooler was not replaced and cooling system was not flushed. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. Thanks for the info. All wiring checked ok. Ended up replacing whole ficm and fixed the truck.
  5. I have not replaced a lot of injectors. this is only the 4th truck and 2nd one I replaced all 8. truck came in for no start. ficm voltage at 48 volts. I had no fault codes when truck came in now I have fault codes for #3 and 5. the truck does start now but missing out on 4 cylinders 2, 3, 5, and 8. I have not had any issues with other injectors I have installed. I suspect I have an issue with the ficm. wires to injectors check ok. it is every other cylinder in the firing order that is missing out. wondering if anyone has ever seen this before. any help would be appreciated.
  6. diesel work here has slowed down since I started here 8 years ago. when I started the tech that was doing diesels had them stacked up outside. he was always 2-3 weeks behind. he left here this summer because he could not make any hours. I have started to do diesels along with gas engines. just finished my first bed plate reseal. doing a set of injectors in an 06.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I figured they were different but I was under the impression that the previous tech used this tool but I did not think I was getting the correct results.
  8. I am trying to run a crankcase pressure test on 08 250. i do not have the tool the book calls for, 303-758. i found one in the shop that i believe is used on the 7.3. i was told it would wok but i am questioning it. the complaint on the truck is that it has oil consumption. i have checked relative compression and power balance and checks ok. fuel trims are less than 2 on all cylinders. i have not checked manual compression. with the old crankcase tester i have 5 psi blowby. would this be accurate or should i make the shop get the correct tool?
  9. on the bench I blew air into lower port of pump and put my finger over the other port and oil poured out of the front pump.
  10. first image is with out block off tools installed. I did not check actual oil pressure with gauge while cranking just checked for oil coming up into filter housing while depressing the valve and cranking. when I pulled the pump out and turned it by hand it felt like it was binding and the freed up.
  11. vehicle will not start. icp pressure will cranking is 430 ipr is at 85%. pulled valve covers and installed block off plugs to rail. cranked engine with icp at 85% icp builds to 2400, I believe it should build 4,000 psi. I removes turbo and air tested high pressure system and when commanding ipr at 85% I do not hear any leak. I think I hear some from the oil filter housing. it looks like it has a new icp sensor and possibly hpop but I believe it is bad. I would like to know what you guys think before I pull the trigger and replace the pump. I am a ford diesel rookie.
  12. I did replace the pimp for this issue, the truck was also stalling before which is not doing now. Just setting fault code poo87. Looked at fuel inside of filter housing and sample out of high side did not see any metal but I did not use a dark colored cap. Frp voltage koeo is at .50 f pcv 27% and f vcv at 25% at 24650 at 1500 rpm during hpfp test. I did recheck for air in high side and got some first 2 minutes of running retest drove truck and it did not reset fault code.
  13. I did reset the adapt after replacing the pump. I did run relative compression #8 was down 2% but is #2 that the fuel trim is at 10.
  14. first thanks for the add been working for ford for a while. this is my first post on this site. taking over diesel repair. I have a truck that is setting p0087 only on the hwy and with trailer hook up. drove truck with out trailer and it will not set fault code. this truck had fuel filters and fuel conditioning module replace before coming to me. I put a hpfp on the truck. on the hwy with the trailer hooked up low side fuel pressure never drops below 4 psi. I brought the truck back in and checked for arreation in high side, it had air for a couple of minutes before clearing out. ran hpfp test with ids and test passed. I have one injector sft at 10 and one at -5. all the others at 0 or -1. I am suspecting from what I have read that I may be looking at an injector issue. I have not run and intrusive test yet. does anyone have any suggestions.
