  1. I would like to bring this one back from the dead which helped a stubborn crank no start 2013 F250 6.2 we had in the shop recently. Ironically this one was a mine truck as well and almost always covered from top to bottom in a nice layer of mud with the consistency of concrete. Pulled the tank down to check for contamination and debris and found a similar amount like the above pictures in the bottom of the pump but not enough to cause an issue(so I thought) replacement of the pump got pressure to the rail but still a no start. After checking and double checking the injectors and coils are receiving their respective commands and knowing the engine tries to run on starting fluid the injectors are the only thing left. While some debris was present in the rail and top of the injectors it certainly was not enough to think it would cause a no start but ended up changing all 8 injectors and and fuel rail and she fired right up after. Thanks to this thread it helped confirm my theory of an injector problem. Its not often we run into needing to change practically the whole fuel system to fix a crank no start!
  2. Will have to keep an eye on these issues. So far in our fleet we only have 1 7.3 in a F550. Coming up on its first oil change shortly and has been problem free so far. Really hopping for success with this engine. Trying to get away from the diesels in certain applications where its really not needed.
  3. Arizona is in the process of opening things back up but of course with ridiculous "social distance" requirements. They are only allowing half capacity in any retail business and make the overage wait outside in a line 6 ft apart. Some stores are requiring masks unless medical condition prevents it. Funny thing is what do you think will happen when you stick a bunch of people that have been stuck at home for 8 weeks outside, in the summer(107* here this week), wearing gloves and masks? Going to be dropping from heatstroke before the covid gets you!
  4. I can say my wife would be jealous. She has had her eyes on these for a while to replace her fusion. Im hesitant since being in the commercial arena I dont really see these anymore to know if they are worth the investment. Between the cost of the vehicle and crap interest rates I have not been too excited to pull the trigger on one. If I invest in a new vehicle I hold on to it for years so I dont want a pos. I can say my impressions of driving one is ok. The sport models have plenty of power but the overall feel of the explorer feels heavy IMO, the cabin feels small for how big it actually is. Road noise seems to be high too. As in higher then our 2015 fusion with bald tires. I have roadtested a few new ones and I want to like them more but every time Im not blow away enough to make the investment. I would be interested to hear what you think of it after owning it for a bit. Of course my wife does not understand!
  5. I saw this in the ids listing too but have not researched it just yet. Im sure this is just the next step to the IDS replacement software. As far as medium duty are we talking older stuff with cummins motors or the current stuff with powerstrokes? I have both but have not had many issues with the powerstroke units just yet.
  6. This is why I have a job! Managing a fleet of about 190 units currently and I can confirm even with gps tracking mileage, hrs, and upcoming services they still get ignored by the local area managers until I call to check up and ask about it or it slips through the cracks. When I started with the company our trucks barely made 3-4yrs and 100k miles. Today we have increased that to 7-8yr average and 300k miles. I spent countless hrs educating our managers and service techs on proper maintenance, importance of engine hours vs mileage, writing pdf service charts etc. Its paid off in the end but it takes someone educating and maintaining it on a daily basis. We only only do repairs locally and everything in other locations goes offsite for service unless its a major repair then it comes back to us for repair.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised if this was setup by discovery channel for ratings. Not really scripted but willing doing things that knew it would gain them attention with EPA to impose fines so they have some more story to write about.
  8. We are in the middle of this crazy right now too. Same as most states with closures of public places, venues, schools, restaurants etc. Cant find TP, baby wipes, diapers, cleaning shit etc. Grocery stores running thin on everything including meats mostly due to jackasses buying up anything and everything they can. Gun stores having huge lines with people buying guns and ammo like the movie level zombies are coming! Wife and kids are going bonkers at home all day. I am still working and been deemed essential in case the governor decided to put a shelter in place order in effect in the future. We have slowed down a little but being in the commercial world this are still rolling. I cant move some of the fleet I need to in other states so that has put a damper on getting stuff done in the shop but we have no plans on closing anything. Just one more reason Im happy to be in the commercial industry vs retail! Hopefully all this blows over pretty quick and we get back to normal. The joke will be on us when we find out we have all been living with this thing since end of last year anyway
  9. These guys come to mind with kits you can buy. Its still a pretty expensive venture to do it right. EV West - Electric Vehicle Parts, Components, EVSE Charging Stations, Electric Car Conversion Kits
  10. swapping tesla parts into older vehicles is a fast growing business. Ive seen classic mustangs, audis, custom sand trucks etc all swapped. Pretty cool actually.
  11. I think its totally wrong to call it a mustang, Aside from a few design shape similarity's its nothing like a mustang. The overall vehicle is great and a good start to electric vehicles for ford but its a shame they had to call it a mustang, They should have stuck with just Mach E or something, anything but mustang. I think it was all for the controversy and getting people to take notice.
  12. Fx4 rancho shocks suck, Its a shame ford calls them an upgrade. Go with the bilistein 5100 series, these are the silver nickle colored body shocks, You will get an improvement but it wont be like an F150 ride. I ditched the ranchos at 60k on my F250 and went with the bilistiens, Im now at 160k and its about time to replace them again so the longer life of the bilistiens justify the extra cost. This is on a 2011 diesel F250 crew cab short bed 4x4. One thing that does drive me crazy is on some highways you get a bucking motion at all speeds. It only gets worse the faster you drive, Its like the perfect storm of wheel base and solid axle pickups that cant suck up the bumps fast enough it starts to build up and will shake your teeth out. Ive been in F150s on that same stretch of road and they are smooth but not my superduty! the 2011 is at least better then my 2001 leaf sprung F350 7.3. so I have that going for me! I also adjust my tire pressures a bit to try and help. Im not going to run 80psi in the rear unloaded so I drop them to about 50-55 psi in the rear and 60 in the front. I chalk line test the tire to make sure Im getting a full contact wear pattern for my particular tire regardless of what the TPMS tells me. When Im loaded I bump up the pressure for the load. When buying tires for these avoid the BFG ATIIs. Im going to be lucky to see 30k out of these! thats with rotating every 5k including cross rotations. They are just too soft for the diesel torque and my right foot!
  13. Nice looking place. I just went in for this same class a couple weeks ago and was just thinking our place has not changed much in the 18 or so years Ive been attending! It always clean and organized along with keeping up with updates so no complaints! I have to agree with the lesson. Nothing too crazy but some new or unused stuff taught that can be useful. For me I do not get to see the car stuff much as our fleet is all 150s and superdutys so I am always a little behind. I always do enjoy the training but do not see much of it being a senior master. Its always comical to see all the other dealer techs confusion when my name tag says "non dealer" so I end up answering alot of how did you get here questions. I also get lack of acceptance and usually have to prove my knowledge the first day before I can get some respect from the other techs. I am thankful I work for an employer that believes in the importance of factory training and equipment to keep our fleet rolling so I still have the opportunity to attend the ford training and retain my masters even if its an unofficial title! Its also nice not to have to dealer with the dealer politics and headache!
  14. I agree. Remote start was another easy add on 2011-2016 super duties. oh and upfitter switchs!!! Why in the hell are all fleet trucks not standard with upfitters??!! I really hate the ford stand on " if it wasn't built with it you cant have it" Thats great except you cant find a sales order guy that knows a damn thing about checking the right boxes. When I order our fleet trucks I spend many hours going over the order sheets to make sure I order it how I want it since its so hard to add anything now.
  15. been there done that. Those little clips make it into all kinds of odd places! Most common for me has been the oil pump killing the gears and scoring the front cover.
  16. I think this picture is worth of being here. Spotted this around the corner from our shop.
  17. I have tried them and they are ok however I end up just doing it by hand in the end anyway
  18. I have to agree with you Bruce. Poor decision on fords part to cancel the sedan, they are going to shoot themselves right in the foot with that one. I could see cutting back on a couple lines and maybe not offering as many models but to just shelf them all together is a bad idea. What the rental car fleet? entry level commuter cars? etc. that has to be a big chunk of business right there! If ford follows through I believe they will loose alot of customers wanting sedans. I own a fusion, for us at the time the fusion made the most sense financially for us since the comparable suv was out of budget both in price and overall MPG. Take that away and your going to loose customers. We did recently attempt a trade in to get into an edge or explorer since it would be alot easier with kids but the car values(trade ins) have tanked and the fusion isnt worth much even being 2 years old and 25k miles. cheapest edge that would even compare to our fusion option wise was over 30k!
  19. the day the recall was announced I was driving a work truck(2010 F250) home and noticed the wheel was loose via steering wheel bolt. 200k miles and the wheel had never been off before. I have a feeling we will see this one expanded.
  20. Good luck! It will take a whole hell of alot to go back to a ford dealer but its nice to have that option if it ever came down to it.
  21. If your having sticktion concerns the ficm rarely takes care of it. It might be time for injectors especially if its an 2003 MY. Im not a fan of the higher volt ficms in the 6.0s since I dont believe they do anything performance related.
  22. Agreed!!! These webinars are a huge pain in the ass. I have yet to complete one since I dont get 2hrs in a sitting to be left alone. I still have a couple to take to finish updating all my certs for the year but I dont want to have to deal with those webinars! I would rather go spend 3-4 days in the training center instead!
  23. Ive seen this many times, the dealer will start to ignore you about tools or hassle you about warranty if your not regularly buying tools. Well at some point the tech is going to have what they need and simply need to maintain what they have. IMO this is no reason not to check in on a customer(tech) from time to time to make sure they dont need anything, share promotions or new tools with them. However It is a fine line with being oversold or being ignored. I know some guys absolutely hate a tool guy coming up to their bay and interrupting their work and would rather walk on the truck or flag the guy down when they need something. I was one of these guys, I did not want to be approached to be sold something 3 times a week by 3 different dealers since it always turns into a BS session and wasting 20mins of your day. I would rather walk on the truck if I decided I need something. The snapon dealer we had at the dealer was actually pretty good about this. He would leave you alone for the most part and if he had not seen you in a few weeks would make it a point to stop over and say hi real quick to make sure you where good and didnt need anything. I have/had a really good snapon guy when at the dealer, when going to work from my current employer we started from nothing. No shop or tool dealers. I pushed to get the same dealer over to my new employer rather then have to get stuck with whoever was closest to the shop since we had a good relationship. For a few years I simply would call him up and stop by his house if we needed anything. Eventually we got enough techs in the shop to justify needing a regular weekly stop. The dealer was actually able to make use an official route stop in someone else territory but I remember him saying it was a pain in the ass to make it happen. I think it only happened since we had just started a "shop" and had no other dealers. I doubt you could switch dealers as an individual, maybe if the entire shop felt that way and filed a complaint with snapon but you are probably out of luck on your own. I really wish snap on corporate would hold their franchises at a higher standard for customer service
  24. We run those GPS units as well. I install them in a fashion where they have to be unplugged before anything else plugs into the DLC
  25. Ive been setting our F550s at 75mph. I believe the disable parameter is to remove the 65 or 75 restrictions but it will still have the overall 95mph limit. On the 2017s I have also been able to set idle time shutdown unlike the previous years when you had to special order that option!
