  1. If this has the "hydraulic power brake" system on it check the data link wires at the large connector, they are the first 2 towards the front of the vehicle and get lots of road rash abuse. this is a link to the manual if it is the full power brake system. the motors are monitored internally to the hcu and if you have good power and grounds its a new hcu.... on a school bus they get one "clean power" from the battery box and the other is on the firewall so not sure about the terrastars. one pump is powered through the big connector and one by the 2 wire connector. both suffer from road rash. http://graphicvillage.org/meritor/MM0401.pdf I have found with school bus's using anything but the wabco reader the fault codes don't match wabco's info. using the dash or ic's readers to pull codes are mostly pointless numbers wise. the definition may be accurate though.
  2. You can make a tool out of the correct size nut hogged out to fit over the nipple if you dont have quick access to the tool. weld 2 together to give a good amount for the socket to bite onto. tool # ztsw4723
  3. Not being in a dealership for a few years now, I have a 17 f150 2.7eco 4x4 with the std 8.8 open rear diff with rsc abs traction controll, yada yada yada. lol I live in the snow belt and the "traction control" is just not a performer on ice from a stop sign or lights in 2wd. My shop truck (2006 f150) with out the nannies is much better performing in the snow and on the ice traction wise in 2wd. (yes I know tires make a huge diff) It will act get away from a dead stop with little issues compared to my personal truck. Why is there no option for a limited slip in this truck? I have looked online and there is no one offering a lim slip replacement carrier for this year of truck (2015 and newer).. I am guessing that it has to do with the electronic nannies now standard, but I would prefer a lim slip and let the nannies sleep till act needed. I know u can option an e locker but that was not an option for me at the time. From what I have found is that the open carrier has the same basic # and bearings appear to be the same part as what is in the pre 2015's, I have not seen inside the cover of a newer truck to know if there is a tone ring or anything else to work with all the nannies. Can any one tell me if the pre 2015 lim slip carrier would act work in my truck??? Can any one post up a pic of a pre 2015 and a post 2015 to compare?
  4. From what I have been told and see in the construction, the body is designed to separate from the chassis in a major collision.
  5. Was scrolling through the book of faces and came across a vid from "diesel doctor of TN" looking at a ford reman engine that had the bores plasma welded and machined back to spec. the material welded back into the bores was flaking and pealing off. Is this a thing now?? kinda looks like they machined the material thin enough to peal it out. posted Feb 23 this year
  6. Go to the other rep out side of work, "cold call" style. buy what you need and say no more. I cant see how anyone could catch shit for a customer walking onto their truck, but its another story if they called in to your work place. I have not seen a Snap-on dealer in over 3 years even though he is in town every other week. I do how ever see my Mac tools dealer infrequently but regularly. We don't buy much but when we do its going to be from the rep that act takes the time to visit and warranty their product. My gf got some clothing as a christmas gift from Mac tools online. My rep didn't know anything about it. With an address they would know who's territory it is in and could credit them but didn't sound like it happens that way. online orders appear to be straight corporate profit.
  7. From what I have heard from other divisions about the roush v10 propane is that the ids does not auto read it, you need to put in a vehicle identifier other than f series etc. We have 3 but not in my local so no first hand info. The ids software is sold as an add on with our tender so it is going to give you more info-options for diag. Go here for some more info: http://www.schoolbusfleet.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=40008&SearchTerms=IDS
  8. Is any one else seeing a large pic blocking the forum list when they log in?
  9. School bus specific forum here. all makes all models lots more then just power train info there. http://www.schoolbusfleet.com/forum/
  10. What age of units, model and brake system? 09 and up IC ce series floor sill cracking at hold downs, poor connections at in the battery box's where the 3 fuse holders are, under seat heater housings breaking mostly on the inboard side, screws falling out everywhere. seat backs under the foam cracking.. IC keeps me in job security, what does that say? Cat 3126's and C7's like to crack piston rings in higher mileage and start to consume oil, have a lopie idle and nice little puff out the breather tube. the MB906 with out egr have been fairly good over all but they crack the fuel return like that runs above the unit injectors. the C2's tend to have water leaks that end up causing the flooring to come un-bonded, earlier versions had issues with corrosion on wiring in various places.
  11. Have any designer or engineer work 5 years in the trade hands on b4 they design or engineer anything!
  12. when I first read about the new oil spec FA-4, they said outright it was not backwards compatible. Thought I read that this new FA-4 spec was for new engines 2017+ only.... the CK oil was backwards compatible but obv not so much.... http://www.schoolbusfleet.com/news/715559/details-on-the-new-diesel-engine-oil-standards
  13. Nissan did 3 diesel engines for north america. LD28 found in the early 80's maxima sd33 for international and sd22 for the small pick up they had. all good engine's but you cant get much in the way of parts for them any more. I have an LD28, it was in my rover for a while. smooth, quiet, reliable and easy to work on if anything did go wrong. unfortunately the crank form that engine is worth more then the car it came out of being used to make stroker motors for the old 240, 260 and 280z cars and the block was basically the same. And there is your useless info for today.. LOL
  14. Drove past a dealer yesterday the diesel had a $10000 off sign on it already.
  15. I have been thinking about hydrophobic sprays lately. If the metal never gets wet it shouldn't rust... I would think anyway.. https://youtu.be/BvTkefJHfC0
