The 3.2L Power Stroke diesel engine in the Ford Transit is the first Ford diesel that has an exhaust aftertreatment system that does not use the dosing method that injects fuel into the engine cylinders during the exhaust stroke to create heat during active DPF regeneration. The Transit's aftertreatment system utilizes a Fuel Vaperizor Sytem consisting of a diesel fuel pump and a glowplug which actually vaporizes diesel fuel directly into the exhaust stream before the aftertreatment catalyst assembly. The glow plug does not actually light the fuel. The fuel introduced into the system reacts with the oxidation catalyst to raise the exhaust temperatureenough to burn the soot collected in the Diesel Particulate Filter similar to the other Ford systems. Why did Ford name it a "glowplug?" Your guess is as good as ours!
