I hope I'm not being paranoid but my Factory Rep was in last week and said that the new diesel is delayed because of problems, and I quote: "It's no better than the one we have now."

I really want to believe that Ford is making an effort to ensure that this is not the case. He even said that when International had handed us the 6.0L it was a good engine before the Ford engineers gotten their hands on it. I've heard that exact statement before several times but I am not really sure what it means. What did Ford DO to the engine? (beside crank up the horse power and the RPM's) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    I'm feeling a little bit queasy! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif

I believe it was enough to crank up the power, but consider the cylinder pressures and boost pressures and the fact that the 6.0 has 10 head bolts and the 7.3 has 17,which are not torque to yield......can't turn a extremely light duty diesel into a race engine without problems,I believe

The one that really sticks in my mind is the tech that Ford watched perform a 6.0L R&I and he did it in 11+ hours, if I recall correctly. It takes me a full day just to get the engine out. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

Well Doc,I need to stay quiet here,I guess.....lol I just finished my 32 6.0 engine r&r and don't want to get beat up on my times.

I do hate the fact that I can do an r&r with my eyes closed, though

  3. We have sold a load of these, but have only seen serp belt problems and a couple of alternators.I did go online at Fords site and did a little build and price on the new Expy EL and they have listed under future options as a 4.5 Powerstroke V8....which I believe is a typo, but they list the engine as having 300 hp and 500 lbs of torque....so we shall see.

  4. Well, does not seem that there is any formal 6.4 training in the near or maybe distant future,as with the 6.0-here it is fix it.Now I spoke with our fse last week and he told me that he has heard of no training lined up for the motor,it will be out no later than Janurary 07,they are blowing them up on the dyno, and rumor has it that anything more than an oil change will require cab removal,so the rumor also is that they may configure quick disconnects on the firewall and pin the cab on.....now agreed this is still rumor and preliminary, but I can believe it.

Peace to all my mentally strained diesel brothers, and also physically abused diesel techs.

  5. congrads on the pull,as for myself I am ashamed to say that I have done 16 6.0,and 9 heads,8 head gaskets.

Man this is pitiful.I have only done 8 7.3's and they have been around for over 10 years.

God this sucks.Got an 05 550 with 5 miles on it in the bay, pulled the body and right head due to breaking rocker arms in #7,found rusted and gouged cylinder walls, inspector came and today I was informed that a new motor is on the way....guess this will be #17.

Ohh yeah have also done 5 bedplates....yeah fun

  6. The 6.0 information update (FordStar) mentioned there is going to be some program in the very near future that will address concerns by model year. Could be updated parts or another updated calibration. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Newest calibration coming up will address the EGR valve problem

  8. Okay, it's crunch time and the owner has no problem paying for the repair. Aside from removing the cab has anybody done 6.0 head gaskets IN CHASSIS? I have seen pictures of it done but I can't decide if I want to try it or just pull another !?@#!? engine do it on a stand and get it over with. I'm in the middle of an Excursion engine replacement right now so I'm not in a great frame of mind. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

I believe you can not r&r both heads in the truck, with the body on,Ford recommends removing the evaporator box for the right head, but there is no way you can torque the head bolts in the body. Remove the cab and you will not be sorry,if I am left alone and work steady,I can get a caB OFF IN AN HOUR AND A HALF(MOST OF THE TIME)as for excursions, you will have to pull the engine.
  9. Recently? R&R bank 2 head due to broken rocker arm, also replace inop turbo due to lack of use [460 miles]hehe, bent the pushrod like a question mark! By the way, take the cab off, and with some foresight, you won't have to open the brake system.

Three other turbos, 4 y-pipes, and a number of injectors.

I have to tell you, working on this motor with no body surrounding it was something of a liberating experience,it was actually pleasurable, but now I also understand where Ford came up with it's labor times.

I have done 16 engines and 9 cylinder heads,I wouldn't do anymore without removing the body....I agree with the room to work.
  10. 05 with broken rockers, removed head(right),after raising cab,#7 cylinder has water infiltration and is rusted with bent valves. Not bad for 5 miles on it....huhh?

Now have to r&r motor, after inspector has looked at it. It will be a glorious day when they drop the 6.0

  11. seeing as our dealership has sold 124 units and has 62 units on the lot, needing the recall-we have been quite busy tearing trannies up. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

  12. Well I first heard about it when I was in parts, they already have a category for parts listing on the 6.4,and as I was just at the training center and they confirmed the rumor,we are in for a change coming in 07 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif and also an Allison/Ford trans deal

  14. Have heard some news on the new motor-6.4L twin turbo-anybody else hear anything?

Lets strap another turbo on to an engine that is already almost impossible to work on.

Hope they really learned their lesson from the 6.0 and used a different block(probably not) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/boxing.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif

  16. Ford engineers,I believe are sado/masacists.How stupid is it to cram 10 lbs of s**t in to a 3 lb box?As for 6.0 replacements-I have done 9 and 4 bedplates,11 y_pipes and have left several inches of skin and blood on everyone of them.

Ohh yeah, great site here for us slaves to the blue oval.
