  1. Do you know the smell I'm talking about, kind of like a wet dog? To me all Transits have this funky smell.
  2. I get one sick day per year. I entered 5-10 days because it wouldn't let me keep it blank.
  3. I didn't go inside the truck, but I wonder if the new Transit has that funky smell that the smaller ones have.
  4. I just hope it keeps us busy in the shop. We've got one at out dealer, it looks like a decent truck.
  5. Hang in there Jim, I wish you the best.
  6. I just spent 3 hours welding nuts to those broken bolts and the bolts are STILL in the manifold!!! I think I'm just going to replace it. I didn't try drilling them, but after all the welding I really don't think I'd be able to gat a drill bit to go through.

From what I hear it won't pull vacuum for some reason.

I probably won't be doing any of these... I fix stuff. I was reading how there's a big problem with purging the air from the cooling system after performing the recall. Does anyone here know how to get the air out of the system on a 1.6L?
  9. We’ve got a 2008 F-250 with a 6.4L in our shop that is kind of a problem vehicle. The vehicle will get towed in as a crank-no-start, and it will have air in the fuel system. If the tech opens the Schrader valve it’s like opening a pop can. Once he purges the air the engine will start. The vehicle will go another 700 miles and then get towed back in for the same problem. Every time the vehicle comes back it has a low ICP DTC and an over speed DTC. I guess the guy does a lot of highway driving. The tech has put a clear hose before the low pressure pump on the frame and there aren’t any air bubbles. He’s also replaced the pump on the frame, the fuel pick up, and the O-rings for the fuel pick up. Has anyone ever run across a problem like this with a 6.4L? Is it possible air is getting into the high pressure fuel pump? I was also thinking that maybe an injector was intermittently leaking. I’ve replaced injectors before that had a leaking tip, but never one that was intermittent.
  10. I've never run into this, but it's really good to know. 6.0L drivability as a waiter... That kind of stuff pissed me off, but we make people like that wait. I'm not going to skip my lunch because of someone else's poor planning.
  11. That's a pet peeve of mine, having to go retrieve the tool I lent out.
  12. Me too, 've had maybe ten of these thing out and removed the clutch. I use each paint pen to mark the shift forks and the actuators. I actually mark the bell housing bolts too because they're different lengths.
  13. Well it turns out the shift forks were reversed. Apparently every time the trans was out the throwout bearing was broken too. This I think was a clue that would have been worth taking a closer look at.
  14. My condolences. Often we hear about this kind of thing on the news, but when something like this happens to someone we know it's awful. Especially if the person has so much to live for.
  15. I've got a 2007 F series with a 6.0L that just shut off and wouldn't restart. ICP pressure was only building up to 220 PSI while cranking. It's a side job so I had some spare time this afternoon to take it apart today. You know the plastic support on the inside of the IPR screen? That little black plastic piece broke off and is stuck on the inside of the IPR, and the IPR screen has. NO holes it it at all. I thought it was kind of weird.
  16. I know it sounds crazy as hell. Can you imagine a customer going out to their Focus, putting it in reverse and the thing moves forward? I can't wait to see what the cause of this problem is. I'm afraid to get too far involved in it because I can totally see management having me take over on the job. I've already had to fix one of these transmissions that another 'tech' had apart.
  17. For the record I think it's something in the trans. Maybe something was broken and when he turned the trans on it's side to replace the clutch maybe something came loose. Maybe it's something he did; I was just wondering if anyone's seen this happen before.
  18. We've got a weird one in the shop right now. Another tech replaced a clutch in a Focus and did the reprogramming and adaptive strategy for the transmission, but if he puts the transmission in reverse, the vehicle moves forward. If he puts it in drive the vehicle goes in reverse. He replaced the clutch again, re-did the adaptive strategy and it was fixed. Until he disconnected the battery, now it's doing the same thing. Has anyone heard of anything like this before?
  19. I can relate. I just got done replacing all rocker arms in a 6.0L.
  20. You've joined the club, so now you can enter into the secret society that bends branch tubes back into position to avoid ever replacing branch tubes again. I'm just kidding. If it was hacked like that I'd probably replace it too.
  21. Rust behind a CMP has burned a lot of techs. I mentioned this to a coworker years ago who had a 6.0L that was a no start. The tech kind of blew off what advice I had to offer. 1 FICM and 8 injectors later he was ready to listen.
  22. Keith, I don't think I want the liability of repairing the head. You've done it though? Have you ever had any problems doing it?
