  1. One of our"operators" rear ended a van yesterday and was towed in. 2008 F450 safety truck, gonna need a stack 'o coolers and assorted lines and hoses. Even blew the belt tensioner apart. The passenger frame rail is a bit tweaked upwards so probably a trip to the body shop for that and sheet metal. Fun times, fun times.

  2. I almost always look up my own parts. A lot of time Ford connectors have part numbers on them but it usually takes a magnifying glass to read it. I could not find a part number on the above sleeve but FCA listed it by the vin, it was in the electrical section. As for parts guys finding them most are not skilled enough and the rest are just lazy, they get paid commission. Some times I will get the connector body sent critical since Ford charges freight base on the price of the part it will be peanuts :)

  3. Yesterday I had a 13 Explorer police interceptor no one could figure out while I was off on Thursday (jury duty). TPMS light is on. TPMS system is faulted. Sensors won't train but the tool beeps seeing the sensors okay. The only time I've ever seen this was when the customer installed wheels and sensors off of a different model year vehicle with different frequency sensors. This was not the case so I checked oasis real fast and found an SSM related to police vehicles and RFI.I figured I'd check the TPMS module for its location related to any of the radio equipment. What I found was an unplugged pigtail and no module in sight. The module is located in a different spot for police vehicles with the console delete option. I suspect is it is bolted to the back of a trim piece below the radio and this piece was removed for this vehicle to install the aftermarket console. This console is a nightmare to remove also.I found out later the tire pressure light has been on since 3 miles after they received the vehicle. It has 30k on it now.

That reminds me of a new 08 Expedition that came from a local police dept with an airbag lite on.It had a no communication code and when I accessed the module it was missing. Just the harness laid there on the floor. It seems the installer of the police center console removed it to make the console fit; we sent it back to the PD and never heard another word.

  4. I was looking into the Hook, but was quite pricey from the Snappy dealer. Found much better prices online. If anyone has one what else is included with the kit? From the pics it looks like just battery leads come with it. Do I need to buy Power Point leads and terminal kit or do regular banana plugs work?

    Thanks,Jon

  5. Congrats to Jamie McMurray.

And to Greg Biffle for the #3 for Ford Racing.

Also would like to thank Daytona International

Speedway DOT for their pothole repair!

I know they are not used to that kind of repair in the south

but they did a fantastic job!

    Lets go, Smoke!

  6. Hi All,

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but we all have a major investment or small fortune in tools, boxes, test equipment, etc. I'm not talking about shop owners, but the individual technician. Most techs I work with or have worked with have an investment of 10k - 50k +; NO TOOLS = NO $$$$$!

The shop where I am now has a policy of $2500 per tech; that may cover two or three DRAWERS of my toolbox!

I called my homeowner insurance company and they told me if the tools are at my property, they are covered. Since they are at work, only $250 are covered, as if they were in my car.

So, I was told if I want them covered, I'd have to take out a commercial insurance policy at $750 - $950 per year.

Does anybody know other ways of coverage that's more affordable?

    Thanks,Jon

  7. Good evening all,

Although I've just entered the diesel world, the TPMS has been around for at least 5 years, with 3 very different systems. The first systems used WSS data from the ABS module. The next system used pressure sensors integrated with the valve stem, battery powered using radio signals;suseptible to corrosion and damage from unknowing tire changers. The third system is similar to the above but is strapped to the inside of the wheel assembly with a very long hose clamp(there are probably ten different sizes).

I've had several vehicles that "just came from the body shop" and my tire lite is on.The body shop also changed the damaged tire and wheel assembly, and ooops, threw out the TPM sensor with the damaged wheel. Then the customer is livid because he is charged $100.00 to install a new sensor.

    But I digress.

What really ticks me off is writing up a repair order for a "tire lite on". Now I don't mind if it is included with a LOF or other service, but try to get paid for adjusting the tire pressure, not to mention wasting the dealerships resources for writing up the RO.

Thank you for letting me vent.....I do feel better!
