  1. Even at the HFCM I don't believe I have ever seen the pressure above a 100 psi. I have seen a biased ICP sensor intermittently cause stalling concerns. I have also seen dummy plug o-rings that are not completely blown cause intermittent stalling. Cam sensor wiring has been known to have intermittent opens with no codes present.
  2. I have noticed that on valve train concerns that relative compression is off on more than one cylinder. When exhaust rockers arm break or exhaust side has problems there is usually a loud popping out of the intake but when there is a problem with the intake side there is no popping to indicate a valve train concern.
  3. I would of just stayed away from it until a advisor came and asked me to look at it. I would never in my life buy a 6.4 or take it even if they gave it to me. With a 6.4 it's either broke or completely broke. There are no easy fixes on these things anymore. I don't even see leaking radiators anymore. I'm usually taking about 3 cabs off a week.
  4. This engine is starting to sound more and more like the 6.4 with the oil leaks, ticking noise and now dead trucks because of a recall.
  5. From what I have seen they have not come back for injectors. I used to do alot before they started all this metal in the fuel system check. I starting to believe that there is no stopping this metal in the fuel. About 95% of the trucks that come in have clean diesel in them and no signs of rust in the filter housing. And on top of everything else they are starting to charge back parts. We have had two FRP sensor charged back because we are not supposed to change them for no reason. Well I say excuse me if the stupid warranty people can't get their heads straight and together and agree on what needs to be replaced and what doesn't need to be replaced. Every one of them give different answers every time. Maybe I should say read the WSM yourself and you will see in bold print that the FRP sensor is not to be reused when it is removed.
  6. We get about 5 trucks a week with metal in the fuel system. I know these fuel injectors are zero tolerance injector but I'm getting tired of replacing entire fuel system when the truck is not even running rough. I would like to just replace the HPP and let it roll but they force you to check for metal and all of them have metal in the fuel system.
  7. This is starting to sound more like the way the 6.4 started out. Dipstick o-rings leaking and now another noise TSB. All we need is for radiator to start busting at the seams.
  8. We got a tech about to do a shortblock so I will let you all know what he receives with this new enhanced version.
  9. Basically they are saying the engine is no good. I won't be surprised if they have a recall on 6.4 engines.
  10. Last I heard they were still unavailable but it works out much better to have them sent out. The company we have drops off a reconditioned tank and takes the bad one so we don't have any waiting period as well. Much cheaper for all the fleets we have. Our shop does about 8 tanks a week.
  11. I rarely see a truck with an aft axle tank with just a bad pump. 9 times out of 10 the tank is rusted up clogging filters causing the pump to not build any pressure.
  12. I really can't see how it can be done unless you physically have a copy of the old program because from what I know of the IDS program is that no matter what version of IDS you have the latest calibration is going to be installed. Even with a blank FICM the IDS is going to give the latest calibration. FICM are coming pre-calibrated already anyway because when you install a new FICM you don't need to program it to start the vehicle. Even with As Built data the latest calbration always gets installed into any module.
  13. Like Bruce said above use the right gray silicone. I learned that the hard way on my first one. I didn't know about the IH silicone at the time.
  14. I have one now that I was told by PA to remove cover on pump and inspect the little vane pump inside. Everything seemed ok on inspection but who knows what they will say.
  15. I have had a couple 03 models with burnt MAF connectors causing a surging and fluttering noise.
  16. I guess he didn't mind that loud popping noise while it was running.
  17. I have seen it once. I did a shortblock on one and it came back a couple of days later and glow plug had come apart and completely shot out of truck.
  18. Before I remove or loosen the intake I take my air gun and blow air down the sides and then get my light and see if anything is stuck between the intake and head.
  19. I have one in my stall for a hp pump and gasket. Lifting the cab on this truck was damn near an all day thing with all the wires and air hoses they have underneath the body. There were plenty of times where I just wanted to take my wire cutters and just chop all the wires but that would of been hell trying to figure what goes where. As it is now I don't remember where all those wires go.
  20. Yes they were 03 style pumps. I basically air tested the system and found no leaks and the IPR functioning properly.
  21. I have actually had about three reman pumps that were bad out of the box.
  22. Yeah and I remember the 6.4 valve coming out in the class room with no issues either. Let's just wait until this engine gets a few miles on it before we can assume that. By looking at the ones that have arrived on the lot everything looks crammed together but I guess I will wait and see how hard or easy it is to work on.
  23. Finally got my enrollment notice. I go to class at the end of June.
  24. I would suggest wiggle testing the cam sensor wire. I had one before with an intermittent open. I overlayed a wire and it was fixed.
  25. I'm still on the waiting list. I think they are going to send our shop foreman first though.
