  1.  Agree takes a lot of time, have 2 in shop right now with p207f, both required replacing  ccv collar before reprogramming modules, and performing  scr road test which took around 10 miles for message to go off in ic for one, and other was already in idle only mode requiring different procedure to get out of idle mode. on f-350 after reprogramming had a hard fault for particulate matter sensor temp ckt. that was not there before programming, found other tsb or ssm stating replace sensor and module for dtc if within build dates, when removing sensor (after heating  up) the top part where you can grab with wrench twisted off leaving sensor and threads still in bung, removed tail pipe and broke sensor out, but could not save bung, parts priced tail pipe at 700 dollars, at which time customer declined, and being a construction company has technicians working for him who welded sensor into bung instead of replacing bung or tail pipe, and then sent back to me for drive cycle, which after wards set p207f. 2 of the studs broke off tail pipe connection and they did not replace with bolts or nothing, just bolted tail pipe up with 1 nut. likely used same gasket, part of problem is deciding what is proper price to charge for this concern.

  2. Have been interested in finding a scan tool that would do oe type functions for multiple car lines. I have considered snap on modus, matco maxgo, or max2.0, or autel. I find these tools are very expensive and require costly updates that never seams to go away. With work being  slow at my shop, kind of need to do side work, and i need the tool to do pmi, program keys, have bi-directional capabilities, like command outputs on and off, and communicate with all modules on car. all so need it to pay for itself in return on investment, do to being technician who lives on wk. to wk. check. I stumbled upon a app called FORscan on the internet, that states free, looks like you only have to buy a adapter that connects to car and connects with blue tooth. Has any body tried this app with any success? Just curious which scan tools techs are finding is best for the money

  3. I have a 200 f-250 that sets p1668-ef signal pcm-idm err. load test power and grounds to idm, and passed, check continuity on communication ckts. between pcm and idm, .3ohms, check ckts. for short to grnd, and short to pwr. no problem found, injectors will not buzz with this dtc, replaced idm, and seamed like all ok, injectors buzzed and truck start and run for about 20 minutes, then stalled, performed self test again, and new idm set p1668, performed service parts replacement of idm, truck starts and runs and within  a few minutes will stall again and get same hard fault, p1668, and same symptom no buzz of injectors and crank no start. beginning to thank pcm concern at this point. good info in this post.

  4. CUSTOMER COMPLAINT OF EXCESSIVE ENGINE NOISE AND FEEL VEHICLE SHAKE WHEN IDLING IN GEAR, VERIFIED CONCERN, HAD DTC PO54F-IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM-FUEL QUANTITY HIGHER THAN EXPECTED CONTINUOUS MEMORY, FOUND SSM 45913 ADDRESSES CONCERN AND HAS YOU PERFORM TORQUE CONVERTER STALL SPEED TEST PRIOR TO PERFORMING DIAGNOSIS FOR DTC. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PERFORM STALL SPEED TEST I PUT TRANS IN GEAR HELD BRAKE AND ATTEMPT TO RAISE RPM TO 1600-1750 AND PCM WILL NOT ALLOW, RPM ONLY RAISES TO 630 RPM WITH APP WOT. SAME THING IN REVERSE, HAS ANY BODY COME ACROSS THIS, IS THERE SPECIAL WAY TO OVERIDE PCM FOR STALL SPEED TEST ON THIS VEHICLE? IT IS A 16 F-350 WITH A 6R140

  5. stand alone code and only on koer, tried map sensor off of another truck and still sets on koer, never turned service light on no drivability symptoms found. Released truck, just bothers me , in my mind this is a hard fault, hotline was no real help, they stated if ka test passed, and light does not come on then no faults with truck.

  6. have a 12 model that customer states check engine light comes on intermittently, when checked out truck koeo=pass, no cmdtc present, koer sets p1249, had egr cooler replaced in November, when running pinpoint test ka1-ka16 all passed, no leaks found in exhaust or intake, removed map and was not plugged up, verified waste gate did not bleed off with manual vacuum pump, and 26 psi of vacuum to wastegate solenoid, replaced waste gate solenoid and still sets dtc on koer. hotline suggest to replace map sensor, and if still sets dtc then it is possibly paremeters on ids, however ids is at latest level 94.01, and tried with 2 different computers any way. when looking at diag aid at front of ka test  it states that it is looking for a change of map from .19v to .29v, which is a very small movement. I suspect that the waste gate in side turbo is full of carbon and cannot be controlled fast enough for the small increment the intrusive monitor is looking for, not confirmed. hotline states if still sets dtc after replacing map sensor, drive for considerable amount of time to see if check engine light ever comes on and if not then release truck. I was taught that if dtc set on koer this is a hard fault, has any body attempt to clean waste gate inside turbo?

  7. looked through 198 pages of rotunda catalog and did not find gauge bar, and it seams that if you work on  the 6.4l engine that the need to check crank case pressure comes up quite often when dealing with miss fire concerns, easier  to check before you check manual compression. truck that I was working on run good down road, had white smoke after sitting and idling, not using coolant, customer did not add coolant, had 6gun banks tuner on it, dpf delete, banks ram air filter, relative compression with ids had cylinder 8 down 5%, power balance test with ids under manual balance screen shows cylinder 2 and 8 down by at least 15, manual compression test showed cylinder 2 at 290 psi, and cylinder 8 at 250 psi removed valve cover and inspect rockers, all looked ok, not broken, would have been nice to see crank case pressure since there was no abnormal noise in engine not popping back through intake and cranking engine with rocker cover off did not reveal any thing abnormal.

  8. thanks, will look into  water manometer , and I agree with keith as a dealer we should have gauge bar, but we do not at this time, and managers are reluctant to replace the one that is known they loaned out and did not receive back, it is on my shoulders to provide accurate diag, and these tools are needed to see the whole picture.

  9. 2 service managers ago manager loaned out our gauge bar with all the diesel gauges on it, now on multiple occasions I come up to time to check crank case pressure and do not have the tool, inform manager and still has not bought one. looking to get my own magnehelic  gauge was wandering if any body has any suggestions on one with a reasonable price
