  1. Ford has been trying to kill them for 2 years that ive heard of yet people keep buying them so Ford keeps building them
  2. there is 2 problems that i know of and have encountered. the new calibration is setting a false P0488 and also messing up tow/haul. we have gone backwards on the calibrations on a few trucks.
  3. well now the million dollar question is, will they be the same EBP's we have been already installing the last few months or are they getting updated again? im not surprised about another reflash. i had expected that when i first heard about the many 6.0L recalls that were coming. i suspect Ford wants the latest flash in everyones 6.0L, that flash just came out not too long ago and has some EGR strategy improvements.

  5. did my first recall bandaid job yesterday and more are starting to roll in. ive found using a few short cuts ive always used that the job isnt too bad but its still IMO just a bandaid. i dont pull the air cleaner like it says to unless it has the intercoller tube replacement recall, when i pull the coolant bottle i take 2 hose pinching pliers and pinch off the 2 hoses at the top of the bottle before removing the hoses then put vacuum caps on the bottle to keep from spilling coolant. once thats done just move the coolant bottle off to the side while leaving the lower hose on the bottle connected. then i pull the rubber intake hose and the hard plastic hose at the turbo off and set off to applying the bandaid /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

  7. i didnt realize i missed this post Jim. anyways im on the beta program for IDS. myself along with 14 other techs across the country have been using and debugging IDS now for about 2 months. any questions about PDS or IDS ill do my best to get answers. you can ask me here or on the flatratetech.com tech-to-tech boards( im Rich L on those boards) anyways from what i see both PDS and IDS will be needed. reason why, IMO the laptop sucks trying to roadtest with. PDS does about 95% of what WDS does that you dont need extra cables for. PDS IMO is really a OBD2 replacement for NGS. its alot faster, can do module programming, power balance testing and a whole bunch of other stuff while being easier to handle while trying to do roadtest. PDS has had some minor trouble since its release but the next version of software that due to come out very soon should fix alot of stability issues. ive been testing that for 3 weeks now without any connection issues. as for IDS. well its basicly the WDS software thats being tweaked and adjusted to work on a laptop using the same VCM that PDS uses. it also uses the VMM to do the tests that WDS does when you have to use other cables. its way faster then WDS of course but just having everything on one machine makes it nice. right now the beta laptops are the Dell D600 and a Panasonic Toughbook. the panasonic has touch screen yet cost alot more money. i have the Dell and really miss the touch screen, especially on roadtest. if your looking to get a laptop in getting ready for the future release of IDS, get the fastest you can afford. basic requirements needed are a DVD drive, 2 USB ports, 512mb of ram, 40gb harddrive, 1.4ghz pentium-m or faster processor, built in wireless or able to add wireless by a wireless card. having wireless is very nice. ive been using IDS, while getting info off the PTS site and if your doing a reprogram and IDS needs to connect to download a file it will do so without having to disconnect to redock like you have to with WDS as long as you have a wireless network in your shop. as of now release is still end of year, early next year at the latest.
  8. lol im not using them for help i just run it when i get a chance while working on the vehicle or while im doing paperwork. only takes a minute or 2 to run thru one. i figured if Ford is giving away free stuff ill jump through the hoops to try and get whatever they are giving. i got the new wire splice kit that came out last year for free when all that was required was filling out a servey to enter into the drawing for it. i use the heck out of it and make the dealer buy my refils for the kit.
  9. well i just got my first $50 for using the diag tool on the powerstroke central site. ill try again next month seeing you can only win once a month
  10. vent away my $50 is sitting in my tool box waiting to see if i can add another $50 by using the diag tool on the powerstroke central site. $50 doesnt get you much from rotunda but i can find a few things under $100 to spend the free money on.
  11. hmm interesting. i kinda figured harness's on 03 and 04. EBP sensors on everything /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif . im not surprised that Ford is trying another calibration update, thats the cheepest bandaid. was headgaskets or egr coolers talked about? i was figuring head gaskets on 04's. in our shop we see 95% of the headgasket jobs being done on 04's. EGR valves? only true fix for that is making them go away. as long as the exhaust gases are cooled before the valve we will continue to see the valves stiking due to the carbon build up. anyways thanks for the heads up.

  13. you cant compare the price of a hybrid escape to a 4 cyl non hybrid version. you have to compare to an equally built V6 escape. everything ive been told is the Hybrid has about the same power as the V6. a couple of instructors at the training center out this way took the hybrid and a V6 and drag raced. the Hybrid kept up with the V6 very easy. V6 power with better fuel mileage
  14. im not surprised they have more diesels in the works. last trip i had to school i found that more hybrids are in the works too. the Focus,500 and possibly a truck(Ranger or F150) are in the plans. if they can make the 4cyl diesel get 30+ mpg it should sell. did they say if they were turbo diesels?
  15. i dont think the website updates are done. if i remember right theres more improvements in the works
  16. last i heard the reason the V-6 diesel isnt in the F150's and Expeditions already is because it wouldnt meet emission standards and that why its only in the LCF

    EGR VALVE

we try and keep 2 in stock at all times along with 5 EBP sensors. with EGR valves on and off back order status all the time we dont give them up to other dealers. last i heard from my parts manager there was more EGR valves on back order then they had ready to ship to dealers
  18. have you tried listing it on EBAY. ill bet you can get more then $1100 for it.
  19. lol believe it or not Ernie is real. i have to deal with him when i have trouble with IDS. he's actually a pretty nice guy and a whole lot smater then the web version that Ford had used.
  20. so if i read it right is that for using the diag tool to help fix a 6.0L? kinda like they did last year when Ford started that?
  21. yeah i got the same story recently at my ultimate master regionals. was talking with all the FSE's and a couple of higher up Ford people. they wouldnt get specific but i think the bulk of the recall will be like alot of them have been in the past. owner notification programs where Ford will fix it only if you have any of the problems + extended warranty on the parts involved in the recall. if Ford has to fix every single 6.0L out there it will kill them by the time the 2007's come out
