  1. Had BG try selling us their EGR/ intake setup for the 6.0 years ago while I was still working. Their van was parked beside the truck they were demonstrating on. The process produces a hell of a lot of smoke from the exhaust. I only thought it right to put an exhaust hose on the truck and route it into the sliding door of their van. The look on their face when they realized what was going on was priceless !

  2. I have used Fel Pro headgaskets on the 6.0 for many years now, and many many trucks. Never an issue, and some of these trucks are putting out some nice hp. Have done two trucks almost back to back that both had Allianz Power gaskets used and only made it 6 months. Mind you, that was a number of years ago, but they were redone with fel pro and no issues since.

  3. If I remember correctly, the F series was available in 94 with the DIT engine, but only with a manual transmission. 1995 brought about a re flash so that you could actually communicate with the damn things properly. The good ol days ! Doing idi injector pumps under warranty !

    PCM

I'm trying to find a PCM for a 2000 Excursion, 7.3. Not available from Ford, or through the auto wreckers on the Canadian hotline they use.Tag number is YC3F AVA

Any help would be great !

  4. the shop I worked at until I got sick was hourly. I worked in the truck shop end of the dealer which did F250 on up to Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, plus whatever else rolled in the door as long as it was diesel. Nobody in the shop had ever worked flat rate, with the exception of myself, and it showed. They were groomed to be slower than molasses and the customer paid for it. The labour guide was thrown out the window for those guys.

we were paid our normal wage whether you worked or not, and there was a shift premium for 4-12. I almost always produced 20 + hours over my time clocked in, and I was compensated modestly. Its been 2.5 years since I have been off work, and I am still "in" the social club, which means I still get my turkey at Christmas, and invites to functions. if I was able to go back now, I could go back and make at least 60 % more per hour.

There was a lot of negatives at work, but there were also a lot of good things about my employer too !

  5. when I got sick 2.5 yrs ago, I was the only certified guy in the ttruck shop. they were able to keep going with the guy in the car shop that was certified, and no doubt I am sure my number was still doing a lot of warranty work. Ford allowed another tech to do diesel warranty as he was just waiting for his classroom courses to come up; starting with basic electrical.

Since then, I have received many calls and offers from out of town dealers, although that was a regular occurrence before, as well as calls from numerous indy shops to at the very least, help diagnose diesels, many of which were my previous dealership customers.

  6. I have reconditioned around a dozen turbos. It is a great alternative to $1400 for a reman. They are aware it is nota true reman, and certainly do not look as good as Matt's, but it is what is inside, and it fixes their problem. I charge a couple of hours to do the job, and parts are $125 for the kit, plus the re and re. I have 2 more next week on the plate !! Again, nice job Matt, I may have to invest in some "tooling" to obtain a better looking piece !!

  7. Congrats Brad !! It's nice to be recognized. This Christmas will be 2 yrs since I have been at work, and on disability. My employer called my house and said there was a turkey for me; everyone gets a turkey at Christmas. When I went in I was given my turkey, and $200 from my service manager, and another $200 from the owner. It left me speechless but grateful at the same time

  8. I guess this depends on what you're employer is like but, anywhere I have worked, we were never charged for the sticker whether it was needed for our  personal truck or trailer. As long as your truck is in safe condition, which it should be, what is the issue in having the sticker. It eliminates any confusion or arguing with MTO or the police should the situation ever arise, and if you want to drive a heavy truck, that's the price you have to pay. if it is personal use, you don't have to do pre trip inspections, or keep a log book. Once you hook up a trailer to it, except an RV class trailer, that's a whole new ballgame. My 2 cents, and I am sure I will take some flak for it is, if you are going to scrutinize and pick apart a customers truck, best you do the same to your own, lead by example.

As far as a "T" license, it is only needed on vehicles/trailers over  somewhere between 9- 11,000 kg, unsure of the exact number, or if it is equipped with air brakes.
