  1. Two and a half hours between Brampton and Oakville? ???????
  2. As I've heard, and been known to say (when the mercury drops to -35 degrees Celsius), "Global warming MY ASS!"
  3. Hmmm, you've got a test stand for DDEC V injectors?
  4. Where did he go to school for that? Are you guys an ADS-affiliated shop (Association of Diesel Specialists)?
  5. Green eggs and ham disagreeing with your tummy, Aaron?
  6. Will you guys be rebuilding these in-house, or is the test stand just for diagnostic purposes?
  7. It used to be a joke of ours at the Detroit/Allison dealer that our parts dept. was well stocked, if all you wanted was pipe dope and zip ties. Sometimes the zip ties were backordered.
  8. Is that why the best ideas come to you while on the crapper?
  9. After shoveling all the white shit that landed during Friday's shitstorm, there is now approximately four feet of snow piled in my front yard. The wind came from the north and east, and drifted over the wife's Maxima and the hood of my two-wheel drive F-150 4x4. That's right, Friday night I got stuck in a drift in front of our shop because the frickin front axle didn't wanna engage, and I couldn't climb the pissy incline into the shop to fix it, so I eventually slid home and launched the useless pig onto the driveway sideways, barely missing the aforementioned Maxima and the garbage bins. I really should have bought a snowblower in the spring......
  10. Absolutely disgusting, in a very desirable way. Kinda like a hot girl in a trailer park. Or a chili cheese dog. 2100 horsepower, at 8000+ rpm, that would sound pretty freakin awesome with short stacks. Earplugs definitely recommended!
  11. I've heard conflicting reports along that vein, Jim. Our local DDC/Allison sales rep says some well service outfits are cannibalizing rigs instead of buying new or replacement parts, and his own shop (where I used to work) has been slow and expects to stay that way. But then the Fort Garry rep comes along and says his shop is booked up two weeks in advance and the phone is ringing off the hook... For what it's worth, it wasn't that long ago that $75/barrel oil was causing stress as there weren't enough grunts to make all the wheels go 'round. Now apparently $75/barrel oil is not enough to make any profit, so everything is shut down. And the oil companies claim ignorance and innocence to racketeering and price-fixing......
  12. This old truck has an Allison MT series transmission, which is the mid-size design for that era, so it may have an adapter plate between the open bottom engine flywheel housing and the transmission's full-round torque converter housing. I remember replacing a trans on an early 80's C60 with a 366 and an MT, I believe that was the case with that truck. As an aside, if this guy walks from this truck (I'm just putting that out there) I'd love to put that 427 in something like a '32 Ford 'A' or a T-bucket. I've also got a line on some early Hemi's, can't remember if they're 354 Red Rams or 392 cid. My wife has an uncle down south with an early 60's Dodge truck so equipped, and a new or reman engine for it sitting in his shop. Hmmmmmm, imagine that in an open hood roadster.....
  13. I might need help, actually. We inherited the truck from a local auto shop, whose only knowledgeable tech can't physically work on it due to injuries, etc. They inherited it from someone else who diagnosed the low power concern as a failed carburetor. So we have a reman Holley waiting to be installed and that will magically fix it. We're gonna slow down and diagnose this thing properly before we throw shit at it and see what sticks.
  14. I would have thought that the sensor in the oil pan was part of an oil life monitoring system. It would seem to make sense to have that, what with confusion and finger-pointing over maintenance intervals.
  15. Let's see....overhauling a high-hour 500hp Cummins N14, diagnosed a failed dowel pin/cracked timing case on a 12-valve Dodge, rebuilding some tandem axle trailer suspension, butt-load of wiring repairs to an ex-logging truck from the BC coast, gotta diag a '08 Cat C15 with exhaust leaks and oil-puking issues, diag a '71 GMC with a 427 and no power, and diag a '85 F-700 with pretty sparklers when it gets wet. Gonna be busier than a two-pecker'ed dog, that's for sure. Anyone got a dwell meter.....
  16. I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself.....
  17. I've seen that particular failure before a time or two, at least on Detroit Series 60's. When I worked at the DDC/Allison dealer we'd work the snot out of them on a chassis dyno, and monitor crankcase pressure, etc. with a manometer. Sometimes you're lucky and you'll see oil residue in the CAC piping, pointing you towards a failed/failing turbo seal. Sometimes you're unlucky and you catch something in your zipper.....
  18. I hope I don't seem obtuse or ignorant, but I have no idea what you mean. When I think of "Liquid Glass" I think of a brand of car polish my dad kept for years in his shop.
  19. .....And there are shops that use MOD's or Alldata's labor times as gospel truth....the SM is unwilling to investigate, or let the tech actually get paid for his time and skill/expertise......and more disaffected techs leave for greener pastures....ever wonder where the term "flat rape" came from?
  20. It's called industrial espionage, and that is exactly how China built an impressive military (by stealing designs and such from communist mentor Russia), space program, nuclear program, etc. China officially denies any incitement or involvement in these actions, but unofficially.........
  21. Agreed, except which beer will you consume? I'd prefer to swill some Alberta Premium Rye Whiskey, surely I'll be supporting my local economy, farmers and all. And when I wake up in a ditch, being helped into the back of a E-chassis ambulance by the local EMT's, they'll surely also hand me a bill for said services, and I'll compound my support of the economy. The trickle down effects are endless.......
