They are core plugs. Their purpose is to allow removal of the casting core but I have also read that these holes in the casting are where the casting core was supported. The fact that they fall out is from expansion when water freezes into ice but have little or no role in preventing damage from freezing. I find this misconception annoying and it's iright up there with "Cummings"

Fred, The sender adapter "sandwich" is what threw me off. My tank like all of them come with two adapter plates and all those rubber plugs. The included instructions really did not show how that was to work and it seemed like there were three possible ways to retain the sender and pickup. Like you said, once you figure that out its a breeze. Not sure why they don't include the instruction sheet that is online instead of what they give you. And that plastic plug. Yeah, I looked at it several times and did not have a quick replacement so it went in. Mighty close to the exhaust too but I think it should be fine. For $974 I would expect a metal plug myself. I also am not to keen on that breather hose coming off of the vent/rollover valve. I think that should have a cap of some sort. All I got was a 5" piece of fuel line attached to it. I was thinking of sending them an email thanking them for their assistance and I should mention the plug if I do. I have two more tanks to do this week - going with the reconditioned option from Finger's Radiator shop.

few months back when it was already cold out I had to repair an EVAP leak in my explorer and thusly had to clear the DTCs... and I was already a month overdue to inspect. I waited two weeks and decided to just go. The EVAP monitor still hadn't cleared. It passed.

Well the install on the Titan tank went well once I got the pickup/sender part of it figured out. If you venture into this for the first time the instructions that come tucked inside the tank are vague. Do yourself a favor and go to the website and see the instructions there - MUCH better detail and pictures. Also, I ended up calling them for help on this. I spoke with two different people and both were very helpful. Awesome experience overall.

Early HPOP Failures

Beleive it or not I have yet to run into that problem. -
It's funny, I tried to photograph the test tube with the fuel in it and by the time I get it set up in my photo "studio" the glass frosts over. I may need to move that operation outdoors or into the garage.

I don't see how. Diesel 911 is not a regular additive and is intended to be used in cases where the fuel system is already waxed and frozen up. It does contain lubricants and such so I can't see it being harmful to be honest. What I would like to know is what was the root cause of the two engine failures before even attempting to make an kind of a link to the fuel or the use of additives.

Got a 6.7L that spit injector 5 out of the head. Tore up the return line connector. Do I REALLY need to replace the whole return line assembly or is repairable. And what's with the injectors being backordered? The backorder notes states a part problem with a sub-suppler to the supplier? I thought that was funny.

I finally got some new photos of some swash plate style HPOP's showing some scuffing between the swash plate and the pump body - pics 1 & 2. Then at the bottom is the good 'ol cracked rotating cylinder block. 1 2 3

04 sick liter crank no start

Reman pumps usually come with plugs... the one we just did had them. You need to be sure that you replace all of the o-rings when doing this job but I am sure I am preaching to the choir here. -
I can't wait to see the diagnostic aparatus Brad comes up with to check stand pipes.

Awesome! The best part of that video is the picture of John Goodman on the wall. -
With the second arctic cold wave I had a lot more tow-ins to deal with again. I have always wanted to take a fuel sample and stick it in the freezer at home to see what would happen. Well, I have finally done it. I filled one of my test tubes and stuck it in the freezer right next to my Jaagermeister. It looks like about 20% at the bottom of the test tube had wax crystals then we shook it up. I want to see if it resettles. I'll take some pictures of it when I get it like that again. It's not earth shattering but it is neat to see it up close and clear.... not that a filter plugged up with paraffin is difficult to see either.

No doubt that the cost is attractive. I recommended that the customer obtain the tank and he did. Those Econoline tanks are over priced a bit aren't they?

I will soon be installing a Titan 40 gallon aft-axle fuel tank and the guy has a small fleet of trucks. We started mentioning the tanks available from Titan. Customers now have a choice of new OEM, reconditioned epoxy lined or the Titan. https://titanfueltanks.com/shop/utility_tanks/ford-after-axle-multi-model-utility-diesel-tank/

I wasn't going to mention it thinking it was obvious... but, if you hold the camera in a "landscape" position it makes for better videos that fit in the player and on screens much better. You know, WIDE SCREEN? Just sayin. -
I don't think overfilling is an issue. The Ford DEF with the plastic fill nozzle will fill the DEF right up to the filler neck. You must have nodded off.

That is actually quite impressively creative. I was thinking of just hot gluing the harness to the cover... just because. There is not a single plastic retainer on that engine that I do not break any time that I try to remove them. Not one. Have you ever gotten so pissed at the injector noise covers that you end up just ripping them off? AAAHHHRRRUUUGGGHHH!

Well I wrote the guy back with your ideas and some things I discovered Google-ing about... I will relay any response I get.

The Deutz diesel is interesting. I am finding a lot of things about small Detroit Diesel engines too... not. Just in Fords but Chevys and Dodges as well
