  1.

The block has some pretty bad gouge marks from a roloc disc but it's otherwise flat. I hate those damn discs. You go through all that trouble to make sure the heads are flat then you grind on the deck like its got the tolerances of an exhaust manifold.

Not to sound dumb... but what do you use?

I start with a brass scraper and brake cleaner, then the scotch brite pad, then finish off what's left with a straight razor blade.

roloc discs work great if your smart about them. I used them for every headgasket job I had and never had a repeat issue. I know it was frowned upon but again use your head when using them all will be good

  2. I would have done the same thing. I wouldn't pay that kind of money for a new truck that had the engine out of it already, yes its fixed but how do you know it was put back together as good or better then when it rolled off the line? Its one thing if the truck is a few years old and needing that type of repair but being brand new no thanks, I would go pick another truck just like it that hasn't had the motor yanked out of it.

  3. Im upgrading to the VCM II finally for our fleet so I need to sell my original VCM. This was bought in 2011 from Rotunda directly and only used by myself. As you can see from the pictures its in great shape including the cables. I might even have another H-406 cable floating around I will include with it.

  4. I was just looking into upgrading to the VCMII soon as well to keep up with the new stuff. A fellow tech has a personal VCMII that he wants to sell since he is out of the business for good now. Its been used a total of 5 times I think.

I might be selling my VCM I if that would be something your interested in.

Just a FYI though you will need to purchase a license for the IDS to function 100%. That is in addition to the VCM purchase, Well I think the new ones might still come with one year included in the price? Ford raised the rates on these too, Its now $650 a year instead of $450 previously. I think the non dealer, non fleet accounts are $850 a year

  5. I see a little of this as well on the fleet side, I have only done minor repairs on the 6.7s unlike the 6.0 and 6.4 days. I did have a very early 2011 6.7 torn down on my last days at a dealership but that was the last major repair had my hands on. We have alot of 6.7s running around in the F550s but they really have been pretty good to us minus the turbo issues and a couple base engine failures. I just replaced my first DPF assembly this week due soot from the tailpipe. So yeah I feel like I get less of a change to learn these beasts simply because they are not breaking down. That might be worse for me since its just our fleet we are working on as well. On the bright side Im glad Im not at the dealer fighting for work like some of the other guys I know!
