I was rebuilding 2 8.8 diffs on the same day, one I had to leave apart and wait for shims. I put the second diff together and it went on a road test. After I got the shims for the first diff and put it together, I couldn't find the c-clips. It turned out I had used them in the other truck. We brought the second truck back in and removed the cover and the c-clips were sitting in the bottom. Luckily they didn't get picked up into the crown and pinion.
