  1. If the truck is still at work and the customer is willing to pay for the damage caused by lack of maintance I'll snap some pics of what those so called free flowing air filters can cause
  2. I agree that some performance "Tuners" do cause more damage then the end user is aware of, and yes we're stuck in the rock and the hard place dilema but not all add ons are bad for the life of the engine. For example if you take the factory exhaust off and hang on a free flowing unit, you will lower the egt's and more then likely your turbo will last longer because of the lower heat it has to endure. Now throw a tuner into the mix and now you've created a whole new can of worms, so much for the lower egts because the tuner will add more fuel and boost and stress the entire engine beyond it's limitations. Now I'll be up front here and say I haven't seen Banks 6 Gun cause many problems but other programmers have done considerable damage, problem being the guys that do the most damage are the guys who haul the huge ass 5th wheels at 80mph @ 100F down the highway and wonder why the damn thing goes into meltdown. Like most of us here I just repair the things the best we can as long as the customer is up front with any add on devices he has/had on the truck and we'll go from there as to see if it was the root cause of the problem.
  3. I heard pretty much the same numbers you posted Jim, only difference was it was 4700 units down across Canada.... thats alot of pissed off customers lol
  4. Isn't that the way it always go, we went through the same thing last week .....
  5. Dwayne, any idea what issue that was in? I'd love to have that handy the next time the SM and I get into the training meeting.
  6. Well now ya gone and done it Larry, Aaron's already looking for tickets for the upcoming races at MIS. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  7. Yeah sounds like this is becoming a serious problem everywhere, we had a Freestar in last week for a trans problem, we diag'd it and it was towed to another dealer for the repair.... what the hell is this all about??
  8. I've been running IDS on Vista Ultimate for about a month now and to date only one lockup when I was using Datalogger on an 08 Sport Trac. Software release 52 just in case anyones interested.
  9. As for the E series 6.0's I drop the trans crossmember, 6 bolts, and that turbo will damn near fall out of there. Makes life a whole lot easier.
  10. I'd rate our's at 5.5 outta 10, and only that high because we have 2 guys that know their stuff and 2 more that do nothing but waste your time, and a manager that is exactly as Dwayne stated earlier. Seems he has a blind eye to the amount of goods stolen and whats worse warns the sole offender that he's being "watched" so be careful ..... really makes you wonder about working in a union enviroment I tell ya..... Well thats my vent for the day hahahaha.
  11. Well pass along the address and the dates and we'll be there:D
  12. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these to try out, as long as the number crunchers upstairs ok it we'll be good to go.
  13. Actually we just moved Aaron's box into town today, he officially starts Feb 4, right after we both get back from school. Thanks for the tips, i've dealt with Bogar's before and yeah always good service from all the guys there. 10-15 mins away from the border huh? well maybe one of these days we'll have to get together over some of that Crown /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
  14. Funny isn't it how some customers get pissed about having to bring the truck back, you would think they'd be happy you're willing to pinpoint the leak rather then just guess at why they have oil spots on their brand new driveway.
  15. Well up where you are now Jim, I would probably do the same thing but down here in Windsor I have access to many more shops then the on site parts guys want to be bothered contacting, that and I have close friends in the Detroit area so we are over there on a regular basis. As far as service goes I've had nothing but the best from the shops I've dealt with, so far anyways. Most of the stuff I need is for my old toy and it's getting rather hard to find stuff for a 70's vintage F-series.
  16. We had one of these not all that long ago, it was repaired at another dealer, sold at auction and UCS bought it. Another tech got it and it came in barely running, he did the balloon test thing and it worked pretty good and it confirmed what we had thought, but here's the strange part, the hotline engineer said to replace the hold downs and bolts. Informed that there was an issue with them being overtorqued at the factory, stretching the bolts and deforming the hold down. Just something you may want to watch for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
  17. Check out Jeff's Bronco Graveyard @ broncograveyard.com, They've got the best price on gears that I could find.
  18. 17 Years and 5 different Ford stores, all the moving around was by choice lol guess I like a differnt 4 walls to look at after awhile. Diesel mostly but I try to stay up on all aspects of things /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  19. I had a mild runaway a few months back, a local paving company had this F250 that I had just put a new engine in about 2 months prior, so anyways they claim it was driving down the road and just up and quit. So I wander out and have a look under the truck for anything out of the ordinary, nothing obvious so I grab the keys and IDS and head back out to the truck. While monitoring the PIDS I crank her over, everything is cool, ICP IPR and FICM sync are all ok but it don't sound quite right, grab the FP guage and tap into the filter housing.... 55PSI ok so now I'm confused a little. I go grab a glass container and drain a bit of this so called fuel and looky here it appears to be 100% water, another tech pours a little on the ground and trys to light it.... nada not even a little smoke. So we drain the tank, replace the filters and drain the heads the best we can, have to crank the hell out of it but it finally fires up and runs like a bag of dirt, figuring the 5 gallons of fuel isn't going to be enough to go for a road test to make sure it's all good I head on out on the road, hit the throttle to merge into traffic and all hell breaks loose, this thing took off like a friggen rocket, smoke out the pipe like crazy, couldn't see a damn thing and I'm hanging on for the ride, both feet on the brakes hoping not to hit anyone. Eventually it came back down and I limp it back to the fuel station to put more into her. Added another 30 bucks worth to her and headed back out on the road but not daring to get on this thing just yet. I head out to a area that isn't busy during the business hours and jump on it, and you guessed it away we went, smoke everywhere and it putting me back in the seat like a old GTO I once had, it ran up to around the 4500 mark for about 30 secs then all of a sudden it just returned to idle, try her again and it returns to idle with nothing you wouldn't expect, only thing I can think of that was the root cause was not getting all of what ever it was in that tank out of the system. But I tell you it was a hell of a ride /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  20. We just got the Matco version and truthfully I'm not impressed with it as much as the Topside, the Matco one looks cheap but as soon as the next 6.0 comes in I'll try her out and let ya all know how it works.
  21. I've done a few oil pans on these things and one look at that K member and one look at the WSM was all it took to yank that baby right outta the way, think I had the pan done and everything back together in a little under 3 hours /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  22. Mind if I quote you on a few of those points Dwayne? We're about to impose a "certification" style of work distribution due to the gravy suckers at our little shop of horrors /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif I swear you wouldn't believe what goes on there at times.....
  23. Jim's right I hate the incentive system because it get abused more then not, as far as I'm concerned the best incentive there is the pay check they receive at the end of the week, we have it and since it started I've seen more come backs then ever before, I do like the $.50 raise for each specialty, that would solve a lot of problems I have with guys not wanting to do ANY training what so ever.
  24. Sounds almost exactly like the one I had back in June but mine also had a cracked flywheel along with the nose of the starter being sheared off because someone tried to crank it while it was locked solid with coolant, again a F250 2x4 that had hardly worked.
  25. If I recall correctly it'll be a hose issue, had one a couple years back and I also thought it was the hydro booster but after I replaced it the concern was still there, called the hotline and the engineer said to replace the pressure line to the box from the booster(I think). Now I'm not exactly sure but a call to the "engineers" might be in order /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
