  1. I thought everyone might like to see some new spy shots of the '07 super duty. They have been posted on thedieselstop.com forums(not by me).
  2. The codes are purely selected instrument cluster codes. They are just representations of the code you would pull if you used a normal scan tool to do it. It is similar to the radio, DATC, or NAV systems with their self diagnostic modes. The nice is thing is that you can enter that mode to get a digital speedometer/tach/coolant temp/voltage readout.
  3. There are Excursions still being produced at KTP. They are '05 model years. I heard the X will be produced for sometime into the "'06" model year then quietly cancelled.
  4. The vid block is the only thing that can store a tool ID. It probably would take someone with access to the ford software to be able to read any changes made to the calibration. Keeping in mind the calibrations are 5000+ text pages long it probably wouldnt be much fun finding minute differences.
  5. If you know how to enter the engineering functions in the WDS you can examine the whole vid block. In block 124 it identifies the last tool to flash the vid. This is only if the vid was flashed as well as the calibration. The address will be populated with something like FF or something with an F to begin with. Anything other than that and it would be a program from something different than a ford tool. I cant remember exactly which address is which tool but I could find out quickly.
  6. There is a way to find out what the last tool was to flash the VID block. But that is assuming the company that makes the programmer doesnt know the ford codes and that the tool flashed the vid block as well.
  7. Any of the p60* should throw up a flag that something may have been done to the PCM. The P0660 is for the IMTV system on a gas engine, I am not sure why that would indicate any tuning done by a programmer. The only easy way I could think of to check and see if a programmer had been used is to check the filename with the NGS+. I have never had a tuned truck in the shop but I would guess it flashes own calibration name/part number onto the PCM.
  8. I checked on the vehicle locator and searched for the highest price limited 4wd vs the highest price hybrid and found around $3000 difference. For that price there are a couple differences but all in all the same vehicle with a bit better mileage and poorer performance. Does anyone know how the Liberty diesel is selling vs the gasoline model?
  9. I am not sure about the price difference, that seems a little high to me, I thought it was more like $3000-$4000. But in any case people who buy hybrids are buying them because of the illusion of saving the environment something the diesel will never get. The majority of the people who buy diesels for pickups are buying because they make more sense for the type of use they need them for. They are willing to pay more to get the added longevity(at least in the 7.3 ha ha) and a bit better mileage over that course of miles. I am definitely all for a diesel focus in the US. I have put a few of miles on the Focus C-Max and it pulled really strong, had way more room than my present car and averaged 50mpg(mostly highway). I just dont think it is worth the initial cost for Ford to introduce something that is a low-volume low-profit car. That is not what we need right now. Maybe they could sell alot if they could package it as a high performance option with the high output diesel from Europe and great mileage. Similar to what VW did with their SUV.
  10. Unless something changes soon, I dont see how anyone is going to sell a light duty diesel in a car. The exhaust system is so expensive with all the new components required to meet emissions. Who is going to spend an extra $3000 to get a diesel? Especially if it requires adding a second item to the tank like urea. Imagine having identical focuses on the lot one is $15,000 and the other is $18,000. Even if the mileage increases to 50mpg do you think the average customer is going to be willing to pay the difference? With the cost of diesel just going up with the introduction of LSDF and the hassle of a possible second chemical needing to be added to the tank I think we would have to sell the car at a loss to get them off the lots. I just dont see how it makes any business sense Maybe if CAFE increases and it is our only option but with the upcoming hybrids I doubt its going to happen.
  11. There are several 4 cyl diesels being tested but they arent going to be put in cars in the near future. They are being used as aftertreatment(exhaust) mules for an upcoming diesel program. Diesel cars may be in the works but definitely not before '09.
