  1. I know there are several different possibilities for an intermittent white smoke condition but climate seems to have an effect here.(Portland Oregon) I notice the complaint increases in the fall and winter months. I always check the CAC for water. Even if it has the updated CAC and appears dry(at the bottom of the CAC) I remove the cold side CAC tube and inspect around the intake butterfly. I usually find some evidence of water. This water will usually get pushed into the intake only on moderate/heavy acceleration. It appears that even the updated CAC is too efficient especially if you live in a climate with high humidity. I hope this information helps.
  2. Hey Keith I just worked on 6.4 recently that had water in the fuel contamination. The customer knew about the condition but just drained the separator and continued to drive it. It only had 6000 miles on it. Vehicle was brought in with a lack of power complaint. It felt like it had a governor when driving it and would not exceed 2500 rpm in any gear (manual trans.) This thing idled perfectly. IT set the same codes youve listed and code for water in fuel. What I noticed is that short term fuel trim rates at an idle were all over the place. From -18 to +14. I also found on enhanced power balance that when I removed pcm fuel correction that the engine idled rough. I repaired the low pressure fuel system first for water contamination and then replaced all eight fuel injectors, high pressure pump, both rails and fuel cooler after flushing system. I know enough gas in fuel system and driven long enough can do the same damage. After repairs vehicle now has normal power and performance.
  3. Thanks Greg, I appeciate your help on this. I'm certain I have more than one issue but I need to address this first and go from there. Rick
  4. Has anyone experienced this code or condition? This vehicle has been into our shop on several occasions for lack of throttle response and goes to elevated idle. This is my first time with it. Initially I found codes for accelerator pedal circuits. The pedal has been replaced previously but it still sets these codes. I talked with hotline and have been sent pictures of two different chafing areas. I checked both and found no problem in that area. I talked them into letting me over-lay the wiring and gave vehicle back to the customer. For over a week the customer drove vehicle without any problem. Suddenly it was back with a concern of lack of power all the time. I checked and found a new code this time P040D in memmory. This is the first time this code has been set. It appears to be a different condition. Tomorrow I will go after this new code which is related to exhaust gas temp. sensor values. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this? Thanks in advance, Rick
