  1. fuel system is losing prime over night causngg truck to start and die if you immediate try to take off. If key is cycled a few times or truck is left to idle for a few minutes it stays running. once fuel system is primed and truck stays running it runs fine. the truck has 207000 on it and had no symptoms leading up to this. The truck had a hcfm put on it 2yrs ago and i did any oil cooler 1 year ago. The customer is a friend and we discussed about hp pump failures and even thought there was no sign of metal we deiced to replace the hp pump to prevent any problems. after removing pump i disassemble and found all three springs were broke and had some discoloration on pistons. i replaced pump and concern was still present. I then removed tank and inspect fuel pick up and suction tube to hcfm. i did not find anything and assembled. i removed the manual fold off hcfm and the inlet check valve looked a little questionable if it was sealing. I replaced the hcfm to eliminate any problems with it and concern still present next day. also checked fuel tirms and cyl3 has at -10. I did remove the injector inspect it and cranked engine over with injector inverted and did not see any fuel leaking out of tip or return ports. I looked back through post and found some indicating banjo bolt sealing washers leaking. the ones pump were new and torqued properly. I replaced and torqued washers on fuel cooler also and truck still has same concern. the truck has no signs of fuel leaks so I am thinking i missed something in suction side. I am open to any suggestion or proceeds that could help.
  2. Truck was just flushed when deleting egr cooler and coolant is full. The original coolant was universal and had black droplets in but it was not oily nor did it seem like fuel. I used block tester this morning and ran it for 15 mins both cold and hot. The fluid never changed colors. I feel pretty confident that I have ruled out a head issue. I am now thinking it may be inter cooler leaking boost into cooling system or passenger valve cover wear coolant feeds to egr cooler.
  3. I left ford about 4 yrs for a job at CSX as a diesel mechanic. It now looks like am getting laid off because record profits for over 4 years straight is not enough. I have been working on trucks at my own shop for awhile but am not in a position to be fully self employed. I also have a family and need insurance. I have a couple offers from some of the dealerships I previously worked at. How much has change for better or worse. I have talked to some of old co-works about this but also look for other peoples opinions.
  4. I am working in a 2011 with 100220 miles. the customer thinks headgaskets are leaking because there are bubbles in degas bottle when holding it at 2000 rpms. I have driven truck several times and has no other signs of headgaskets. It never loses heat and does not push any coolant out. I test drove with a pressure gauge in cooling system and never passed 12psi and the cap will hold 17psi. I am getting a new exhaust gas detection kit in morning because Mine must have legs and walked away. I personally don't think the headgasket is blown but owner is convinced it is. Its not the egr cooler because it is deleted. Any one have any other suggestions.
  5. I have a 13 with 14000 miles on odometer. The engine has 2406 hours and 1980 at idle. We have records of only two oil changes and window sticker is ours. It came in as a starts and dies. When trying to start the starter was laboring and so was engine when it was running. I started it twice and now engine is locked. If am correct oil should be changed every 250hrs the it should going on 10th oil change. If the intelligent oil life monitor reads and uses hour then oil change light should have been going off. If that is the case then the customer has been either ignoring light or turning it off. If engine should not be warranty because of lack of maintenance.
  6. I had a instructor tell a class to take 3 Hersey kiss with you on 6.4 test drives. So if you have a egt go high. you first eat the kiss then shove the wrapper in egt connector. The wrapper turns it into a short instead a high temp. You take one for each egt and if I remember wright it will then bypass I hour lock out.
  7. I have a 01 farm truck that customer removed a two way radio from to sale truck. they then decided to keep truck and use a hand held radio instead of reinstalling original two way. Now the truck stalls when ever the hand held is keyed up. However, According to customer truck did not have this problem with the old radio that was mounted in truck. I have verified the problem and have tried the same radio in a different truck and it does not stall. I ran codes and has p0340 in mem. Has any one encountered this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  8. I resealed an oil cooler last weak. Flushed several times and no new oil yet. I have also sleeved a 7.3 idi for pin holes in cylinder walls. However they were hydro locked or smoked.
  9. I ran a reverse inj flow test found one inj dribbling. I replaced frp and uvc retest concern still present. I replaced pump test drove and runs fine.
  10. I put truck back together and has been running ok. I think it had a bad connect at UVC to valve cover. It already has new UVC so I could not put the plastic clips in. I wanted to put new valve cover gasket and UVC. But, customer said since truck was assembled he would take his chances and drive it. It has been two weeks and no calls.
  11. I had a friend fill his with gas drove it about a mile and it started running bad. He drained tank then put a couple five gallons of fuel in tank. Ran it through and then replaced both filters. Truck is still running but who knows for long. I also had a guy fill a duramax with gas. His insurance company told him comprehensive would cover repair if someone else filled it with gas. Since he filled with gas they would not cover it.
  12. Retested fuel pressure with VMM and PVT. Low pressure fuel stays at 7 psi during concern. The concern happens just off idle on first accel then it goes into fail safe. If I shut off truck off or clear codes it will duplicate. Going to do a reverse INJ test to be safe. Then put a FRP sensor in and another new pump.
  13. TRUCK IS 08 WITH 85,000. CONCERN HAPPENS ON LIGHT TO MODERATE ACCEL. LP STAYS ABOVE 5 DURING CONCERN.
  14. TRUCK CAME IN WITH P0087 IN MEMORY. RAN THROUGH PIN POINT TEST M AND ME. ALL PASS. CLEARED AND DROVE. P0087 RETURNED AND TRUCK LOST POWER. I REPLACED PUMP, COVER GASKET, AND SHORT HARNESS. TEST DROVE AND CONCERN STILL PRESENT. MADE RECORDING OF EVENT. FOUND FRP DES WAS 10,000. FRP WENT TO 12,000 THEN FLAT LINED AT 1600. PCV WENT TO 41%. THEN TRUCK GOES TO LIMP IN AND COCERN DOES NOT RETURN. HOWEVER IF I CLEAR CODES IT WILL ACT UP ON FIRST ACCEL. WENT BACK AND RETESTED. LP STAYS BETWEEN 5 AND 8. THERE IS NO BUBBLES IN LP SYSTEM. CHECKED FRP AND STAYS AT .49 WHEN WIGGLE TEST. I THEN LOAD TESTED PCV, VCV WIRING BOTH OKAY. FUEL SYSTEM HAS NO SIGN OF CONTIAMINATION IN SECOUNDARY FILTER. ACCORDING TO PIN POINT NEW PUMP IS BAD. I CONTACTED HOTLINE AND THEY SAY TO REPLACE PUMP ALSO. IS THERE ANYTHING I AM MISSING BECAUSE I REAL DONOT WANT TO PUT ANOTHER PUMP IN AND HAVE SAME PROBLEM. HOW ABOUT A PCM ISSUE OR FRP THAT I AM MISSING.
  15. I had 50 psi of pressure at head during concern and that was at idle in park.
