CMP RECALL

The price dropped a few months ago but I think most dealers/the smart ones kept the price the same, in order to make some good coin. I wasn't one of them I priced it correctly. Now that it's out their all screwed sorry to be them. I thought I posted something about this a while ago when I seen the part # go from a F7TZ-12K073-A to a F7TZ-12K073-B and a dramatic drop in price. The new part looks different but looks more beefy. I have about a dozen on the shelf be prepared for a b/o on these. If it does go b/o call me or p/m I'll be glad to help. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

I have been waiting for this to come for some time as well as most of us has /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

As for Keith I don't know "sorry" it doesn't happen very often on a different color but maybe that is the improved IH version. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

The blue ones are DT466E sensors used from 1996 to 2004. They do interchange with the 7.3 sensors but the units do affect the timing slightly. Supposedly, the black sensors advance the timing a few degrees over the blue sensors, and are a IH factory fix for retarded timing from production tolerance stackup on DT engines. I've heard of guys putting black sensors in DT engines to advance the timing a bit for power. I've also heard of black sensors causing burned pistons in DT engines. Assuming this is true, (and I have reason to believe it is) removing a blue CMP and installing a gray CMP could increase the performance. I'd talk to the cust to be sure.

PS the blue sensors fail just as often as the black sensors.....

Have Fun!

When the price dropped months ago I said to my parts guy "how much? wasn't that thing like $170 or so?" he replied "yeah but it's a new part number and the price dropped" I replied "I smell a recall comming" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/readthis.gif

I should have put some money on it...

You did http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5571&page=2#Post5571

This is going to cost Ford mucho. I would however warn you warranty admins to read the reimbursement attachment VERY CLOSELY. It calls for original reciepts not photo copies and not duplicates that will be Ford's out on several people IMO and could potentially hurt several dealers if an audit were to come.

It all depends on what part # they have charged it under if it's they same # I dealt with at Motor City they will be screwed. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Most dealers have gotten as much as they could even though they already knew it was coming down the pipe.

Me myself I couldn't do that to a customer so I fixed the # in my system and charged accordingly. It really fucked up the dealer principle I hear because they have them in stock and didn't even know it. But at the same time when I moved over to Superior Turbo I ordered 12 of them for my stock. I know there will be a b/o on them. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Not a one, so far... but I'm not sure if any owner letters have gone out, yet... Had several 7.3s in ths shop in the last few days but "did you check OASIS" is almost like a racial slur....

We are currently at 3 weeks booking - we upsell what we find but have to do it "carefully" when it's like this.

Once the word hits the street locally, I expect all hell to break loose....

Yes we have no BANANAS but we have cmp's coming out the wazoo. Do me a favor and have your parts dept check for about 500 of the sensors and see who has them. If the pdc's are showing less than a 100 order them and get the other dealers to belly up and pay cost + 10-15-20 or what ever you get to other dealers. But make sure you have them. My suggestion is 20-25 over cost for the forsight and lack of theirs. I think thats a fair margin being the fact that they didn't see it coming. And it will happen. Sorry I'm just a bitch like that.

We tread carefully, there, Larry.... Too many times we'll need to get a "good" customer back on the road "suddenly". Nearest stock for the desired part will be "USA" (several days away) or <GASP> "no stock, USA"... but some dealer in Armpit, Saskatchewan will have one.... And we want it... we want it bad.

He will remember how we've treated him in the past.

Flip side, he knows we are looking at him the same way....

If I'm laying face down in the street (needing a part).... I'm going to remember if a guy kicked me or helped me up.... Cashing in on a situation isn't a good option for us.

Did four in the last two days. Customers drive in through the write up area, I get paged to sevice desk, handed an R.O and a cam sensor, whip under on my creeper with a pry bar and a 10mm socket on my 1/4" ratchet, pop it out and in and wave good bye as they pull away. No up sells here.

It seems like most of us/you guys would rather blow thru these recalls quickly and be done with it. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif

Wouldn't it be the perfect time to try to keep the customer at the shop and get some additionals to help bottomline and your paycheck? Don't get me wrong I know that a lot of us are buried 2-3 weeks in advance but maybe you could get some quick things out of it...Belts, tensioners, hoses...and on and on

I'm not saying overhaul the truck just get a few add-ons while they are there, you don't know, they might come back again for more. Brakes/shocks and I could list others but don't feel like being Jim right know.

Larry, these recalls can be a fence post for alot of dealers, it's really amazing to me. Some dealers will capatalize and others will moan and groan and suffer thru the ordeal.

I knew of a dealer in Huntersville NC, just out side of Charlotte that took full advantage of the Firestone tire recall fiascoe and made a KILLING. They offered a tire (road hazard) warranty at a very modest fee which is gravy on the top, and sold untold numbers of NEEDED brake jobs, ball joints, axle seals, ect.

At my old dealer we had a tech who we called total recall. He signed up for every type of recall that came in the door, then pulled every wheel. No needed work got by this guy. He could sell something to a guy with an '88 Escort with a gagillion miles on the clock in for an ignition switch recall.

And let us remember that there are some dealers starving for work of have guys standing around after lunch. If they aren't taking the ten minutes it takes to look over a truck and recommend needed services or repairs then they deserve to starve. It its understood that there are customers who only want the recall performed and nothing else. They either do their own servicing, have a trusted mechanic or are one of those people who dispise the dealer for whatever reason. All they can say is no right?

You said it!! I hate the service advisors that think they balance the customers check book. Had one yesterday, the guy needed an air intake snorkel which was split. Advisor told me the customer wasn't gonna spend anymore money and didn't even call the guy. What??? The only bill he was responsible for was the $100 deductible.

The ones I did were "Customer Waiting" to get the hell out of the dealership jobs /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whew.gif. But like I said before we have a strong clientel of dedicated 7.3L customers that are booking their trucks in for the recalls right now along with some extra service work as well. It is these kind of customers that allow us to give their vehicle the proper attention that they need. I did two more after that last post. One resulted in a four wheel brake job because he had it booked in for brake noises as well. We do take advantage of the moment when we know we can get them on our hoists and give them a good look over. But then there are the "Customer Waiting" jobs. Still sitting in the damn thing, just waiting to get the hell out of here so they don't have to spend a dime while your popping in a free part. And that is the only reason they have paid a visit to the dealership. Alot of them are first time and last time customers as well.

And like I said before, if we can give a good lookover and win some work out of it, GREAT! But there are those that just don't want to be won over. They have their Indy shops that send them our way for the free stuff. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif
