Intermitent P0503, P0722

We have a 2004 Excursion with a V10 that has a very intermitent P0503 and P0722, with a overdrive lamp flashing. The problem does NOT happen when towing.

The tech working on this truck has ohmed the wires from the PCM to the OSS, inspected the OSS tone ring with a boroscope, stress tested all ten coils.

There is also a DTC in the ABS module for the VSS. The only aftermarket device on this truck is a remote start that has been on since the truck was new.

Anyone else ever run into this? I suggested that he checks his grounds.

Last year i recall a similar concern with one of our buses, overdrive light would flash intermitantly and the abs light would come on and it would shift like shit. You let it sit for twenty minutes or so and drive it and it would be fine for 5 to 10 miles and act up again. When it acts up the rear dif speed signal became distorted. The rear dif speed signal comes from the oss now, we changed that and it did'nt fix it. ABS module swaped in- no good. PCM/TCM fixed it.

Last week an 05 shuttle bus with a torqueshift was doing pretty much the same thing but when it was not displaying the concern eec test will pass. When the concern was present 700 and 714 was there. A new valvebody and internal harness repaired the intermittant concern.
