  1. thanks for the info larry. i thought they were different but the glass shop said they were the same.
  2. sorry, it's not a diesel question but my 04 heritage 150 has a broken windshield. i need to know if the 04 up 150's use the same windshield as the 97-04. thanks.
  3. it was only a matter of time.....first the techs now the suppliers.
  4. it has a throttle plate to lower the pressure in the intake to help egr gasses to flow. the pcm commands it closed when needed. i'm guessing that this is a ford only option and not used on navistar trucks.
  5. well guys i was hired today by and indy. he has lots of work, been in the business 30 years. 24 per frh with a $800 per week guarantee. he also provides health insurance. that is more than any dealership in the area pays.
  6. well it's decided. i will be passing out resumes tomorrow.i think i will look to the aftermarket.i hope i can find a job that pays by the hour......no more flat rate for me. hopefully there is a company that even provides health ins. the final straw was the service manger decided it not fair that i can make more frh's than the other guys so now the other diesel tech has the right to pick his work before i can get a job. i stand around while everyone else gets works. he gives the better jobs to the rest so thier hours can match mine. tired of being punished for doing my job well.at least this service manager admits what he's doing........the rest haven't.
  7. damn.........i was looking for advice on home brewing. cold beer is important when your a ford tech
  8. i find it funny.....when i was staff there there was a pissing match between the owners of the site over who owned what. it was obvious to me that they were trying to be profitable. they were not as concerned about unionization as they wanted you to believe. i tried to get them to see thier arrogance was keeping them from reaching thier goals but they wouldn't listen. it has always been staff and maybe a handfull of techs participating.......and the handfull keeps changing. i guess they finnaly realized that the class action suit will never be heard by a judge and now they are just trying to make money.
  9. www.uaw.org/barg/03/barg02.cfm it should be clear that the hourly wage is not out of line. however the cost of benefits are. remeber the cost of benefits like health insurance and retirement are set by the insurance companies who provide them, not by the manufacturer or the uaw. maybe the manufacturers need to address the issue with them not by reducing the standard of living of the people who are actually making the product. the uaw has made many concessions in the last 30 years to help the american manufacturers stay profitable but in the end it comes down to blue collar workers have gained less than 2% in wages (adjusted by inflation) while managment has gained an average of around 14% while complaining of non profitability. it makes it hard to justify 18 million dollar salaries while the rest of us struggle to feed our families AND pay for our own healthcare and retirement.
  10. ktmlew is right forde has nothing to do with dealer employees. if a dealer has 10 or 100 employees it doesn't affect fmc's profit only the dealers. the 30k includes FORD employed white and blue collar jobs, NOT dealership jobs. i also saw the report of 64.50 per hour for uaw employees, i think the figure is slanted. i checked on the uaw and the dept of labor sites during a recent debate and i remember the factor of 30% more for union assmbly jobs over non union. and if i remember the figure it was under 40 per hr. remember don't believe everything you hear. mark twain said " there are liars, damn liars, and statisticians" i would like to see the pie chart of the cost of a vehicle......my guess it would show far more spent on warranty reserves and research and devolopment than the accual cost in labor to assemble. it just seems easier to blame the uaw because thier members make more than we do. don't let jealousy cause you to incorrectly indentify the problem!
  11. ask your tool jockey to look for an atd brand model in one of his wholesale mags. they are the same and can be bought cheaper. i gave 189 for mine.
  12. probabbly not.....the short that caused the pcm to reset and have no throttle response will most likely kill the pid data. i watched another tech make several recordings and find nothing because the pids all flatlined at the time of the short. he eventually replaced the ficm harness.
  13. the best part is the guy gets 18 mill to put 30k on unemployment!
  14. we are in the middle of a level 2 audit. it was brought to my attention today that the auditor pointed the fickle finger of fate at me as the reason we are high in 6 litre's..........funny thing is that i have only done one 6 litre repair in the 6 months i have been employed there. he reviewed the one and only claim and only found one hose clamp to question as an overrepair. i feel like i have been slandered and would like some opinions. what recourses do i have? i feel like ford is f@$#ing with me because of the "other" website. i also believe they coerced my former employer into forcing me out. it there a pecedent for legal action? any thoughts would be appreciated.
  15. an easier way to check fuel pressure than checking at the heads is to take an old fuel filter cover and tap a fitting into it. i used a schrader fitting from a gas fuel rail so my gas fuel guage will hook up to it. it takes just a few minutes to hook up and you'll also be right there to inspect the fuel and filters.
  16. after reading about this issue and inspecting heads and gaskets another tech had apart this week i have come to the conclusion that it is the heads that distort not the gaskets failing. the tech noted dark areas on the gasket beetween the cyls and blamed it on combustion gasses although the fire rings were intact. any input would be appreciated.
  17. i still have a distributor point spring tension scale in my box. it only comes out to show the pup's that i have tools older than them!
