All I can say on the first one is follow all directions. They are written very well. After the first then you can start figuring out different ways to approach them. Having a vcm II deals helps with the icp reprogramming go faster. Now water pumps are on backorder till June

Honestly I've done 4 of these the first one took me over 8 hours but after that there are not that bad. Only thing that sucks is part avalibility, like say if the water pump is leaking the is gasket on back order. It beats standing around or getting raped on 6.7 warranty times. Plus you get 2.0 m-time on them also.
  3. That was quick. Made it 2k miles and the turbo is out again. The bearing is out and compressor and exhaust wheel contacting housing, also one of the exhaust turbines broke off and went down exhaust. What could be going on here, I replaced egr coolers and cac when I installed engine. There are no codes, maybe exhaust is plugged? causing bearing to over heat? This thing is a big pig weighs nearly 18k pounds. thanks for any info.
  4. Truck has been gone a couple weeks now. I replaced turbo anyway. So far so good.
  5. I put the turbo in at 31k with the 12b37? recall and reprogramed it. I didnt tear down the engine any further because it fell into the tsb. Friday i go back to work and will look at turbo a little closer and probally put one one to cover my butt. Anyone having problem getting fuel injectors? parts telling me they are D99 backorder.
  6. Got one here that has had turbo failure at 12k, 31k, and 59k. Now it's towed in at 64k with glow plug circuit codes and locked up. Those were the only codes it had in it. Got it out and cyl 5 &7 injectors damaged. I have a long block approved. Also replacing cac, egr coolers. I am concerned about the turbo but everything seems fine with it now. Any input would be great thanks.
  7. 4 In one day! damn, thats haulin. 2 in one day good for me. I have a platic snap-on cart I lower the van on to to remove the subframe wich make it nice. All the recalls dried up around here I think we did a total around 115 or so.
  8. Tried selling customer new front cover and water pump. declined right now and drove out.
  9. I have an 05 6.0 with 125k on the clock with no heat at idle. The cust has been workking on this him self and in the last year has replaced radiator, heater core and as of 2 weeks ago thermostat. During my road test I can only get engine up to 180 F and EOT is at 212F. At idle no heat rev engine to 3k and heat starts to come in. I removed coolant hose at hot water valve and started engine, and the coolant flowing from hose was very weak. I removed water pump for inspection and found the pump to be fine but there is a groove worn in the front cover where the water pump fin would be. Is that enough to cause low coolant flow at idle? Also I checked for headgasket failure with a pressure gauge at degas bottle while under WOT, all good there. also truck has egr cooler deleted. thanks.
  10. My first time replacing injectors on the 6.7 is not going very well. I got a couple that are shorted and performing tsb 11-10-10. Man where did they get 4.7 hours for this repair and why the need to replace all 8. What kind of tools you guys using for this repair. I now know I should have bought those snap on sockets, I see my snap on guy tommrow. I used a 17mm flare nut socket but wasnt to happy on how it fit. and definitely need to up-grade my torque wrench to one with more teeth for better torquing of the lines.
  11. No problems Trans work is my area so my fastest time was 2.5 hours. Now I average about 3 to 3.5 total time. I have been doing 1 a day sometimes 2 a day. Lowest miles was 24k and the highest was 251k on the original trans which amazed me. I haven't really had any issues with these as most are people who never come to our shop, and most are piles of crap with ever warning light on. lol. I give all the brakes a look over and try to up sell stuff thats needed.
  12. Up to number 47 since recall dropped. plus a couple before recall that paid the nice 6 hrs. Getting tired of them but they are nice when there no work.
  13. Ya these recalls suck. they were fine at six a guy could make money and not have to haul ass, and actually have time to drive it. I've been doing one a day since parts became avaliable sometimes two, but at 4.0 hrs I need to work on other things also. We work a 4-11 shift here so if theses were all I did I would be in trouble.
  14. been burned by the spacer on a 6.4.
  15. Thats funny i did the same exact thing with my impact also. When i hit the trigger big ole fireball came out and i tossed my impact so fast.
  16. Thanks for the replies guy's need to remeber this for next time.
  17. I recentally had a truck in with check engine light and P2002. The truck has 77k on the clock and 5,788 engine hours. After inspecting the exhaust sytem, So I took into though that this truck idles alot, and we didn"t have any maintance history at our shop. I recomended a New DPF. They declined, but after some research I see that an Aftermarket air filter can cause this. The truck did have an newer aftermarket filter in it. do you guys have anythoughts on this. Iam a trans guy starting to work on more diesels. and feel bad that I may have chased these guys out of here over an air filter. Thanks Bryan
  18. I feel like a dumbass, I forgot to remove the plate off the old engine,
  19. I got one, I recently became diesel certified, just now doing my first major engine repair. low on coolant blew cooler bent #8 rod trashed block etc, etc, etc,. so doing an enhanced short block. after getting engine together and installing engine I start to tighten my torque converter nuts and the studs are not all the way through flex plate holes, WTF. after jacking around I removed engine for inspection, and it appears that my short block is for a manual trans. I look at my crate and its a automatic part number. So it appears its boxed wrong, and whats even worse I'm at trans guy. so I have no idea whats going to happen now. I could just scream. I been burned by wrong box parts before but this is crazy. I checked the number on the box before I started and that's as far as I looked it over. Never caught it when i bolted flex plate on. Man this sucks
