  1. HI,joshbuys! Thanks for looking at this! It has the new style icp, no oil leaking. My question on icp sensors, is even if the sensor is defective, won't the ecm use a fixed value to command the ipr? I can leave the icp disconnected, on these trucks, and it will always start and run. How can I be certain the high pressure oil is building or leaking, without a guage bar? I'm trying to get UPS to buy one, but not looking to good. I'm afraid to look into buying one myself, in fear of sticker shock! lol. Thanks again!... Dwayne.
  2. No problem. We are all on the same team! I do have a truck that is busting my chops, maybe you can help me out. I have a 1997 p700, with a t444e. This truck had a road call for no start. Was towed in, started fine. scand it, had code for icp unable to build pressure during cranking. checked batteries=ok starter good, so our most common issue is the ipr. so I changed the ipr. started up fine, and let it go. Two days later, road call. I went out on it. started when I got there, of coarse. drove back to the shop, no problem, but had a long crank when I tried to restart it. scan again, same icp issue. So I replaced the HP pump. test drive, and let it run for an hour. started right up after sitting, let it go. Two days later, yep, road call. Pulling my hair out now, send it out, not sure if you got it. My thoughts were the ck valve in the resevoir, but I didnt have time to ck the level. came back, no problem found. Next day, Road call. So,the last attempt I changed the fuel pump, was orig. and ck all lines for possible restrictions. I only moved away from the icp, because I don't have a guage bar! I can only see icp at the 600psi mark. I know thats not HP pump pressure of 3000+ I usually see 500 to 700 or so on known good trucks. However, now on this one, while cranking, it is in the mid 200 range. I guess I can isolate the heads, but was thinking more on injectors? It passed a buzz test, but would almost stall on a basic koer test, and then started to run bad. cleared up after a while. this truck always ran fine, and never smoked, so I dont know. let me know what you think! Thanks! PS. I did ck res. level=ok
  3. I know this is a late reply, but after reading all of this, I kinda thought, WOW! Everyone sure seems fired up on this one! I do agree, that we need to always do the right thing, But, this is the real world! It looks like blown99, was always trying to do the right thing! I think by communicating with others, showed that he had the customers best interest in mind! Sure seems like he was trying to find a fix, and didn't seem like he was happy with this type of (repair). Lets face it, we ALL have had to do things that are out of our control! So what is a guy supposed to do? Lets see, the economy is in the tank, bills are still there, do you get into an argument with your boss, go over his head, preaching what you know in your heart to be right, and take a chance maybe it will all work out, or maybe I will be out of a job tomorrow! I know, lets go right to the customer, tell him what a shabby dealer you work for, I'm sure the customer wont say anything, and the boss will totally understand why you took it upon yourself, to deal with the customer! You know what? If that truck breaks down, the customer will have to deal with the owner of the dealer, and his managment team! I am Ford certified, also crew on a top fuel dragster, where everything has to be perfect! But I also work for UPS, and no matter what my morals are, decisions are made that are out of my control! So we have to deal with it! I think that blown99 is showing the utmost respect for his work quality, and concern for his customers! We don't live in a perfect world, we just do the best we can! If you really want to see some hack mechanics, stop by any UPS shop, and you will see people who just don't care! UPS would be happy to have someone like this man, who actually cares about his job!
  4. I hear you brother!!!!! Happy I have a job though! Do you work for a dealer?
  5. Thank you! That should help me! I was not able to look at it tonight, but I should be able to tomorrow! I will look into the SBDT, maybe it was set on 1939? I know I had to select 1708 on my scanner, although I have'nt had any problems scanning any vt275's before. I will give everything you recomended, a try! Thanks again!
  6. Bruce! Thank you for all the info! I will take a look at this truck, when it comes in later tonight. I won't be able to spend too much time on it, because we usually have four mechanics for this building, and we are down two! One is out with kidney stones, and the other one bid on a day job at another building, cleaning out pallets from trailers! So its just me and one other mechanic....sorta!!! We are pushing 70 trucks each right now! I hope to find the data link issue, if not, my budy blown99 will get another one! LOL!
  7. Hi, Bruce! I am familiar with the j1708, but most of my training was from Ford and GM, and mostly on gas jobs. I left the dealer scene in 2002, and have slipped into the UPS black hole! We kinda lose touch with the outside world here, and can be a struggle without proper training! I do keep involved through side work, and whatever I want to learn here, and we see some interesting problems. So to answer your questions, I believe we are looking at 0 to 5v? I do have pinpoint specs in our shop manual, from International. I have not had the chance to disconnect nodes on the serial bus, to diagnose. Our SBDT is similar to the SBDS... we need major help in that department! LOL! We run INTL, Cummins 6BT, ISB, ISB07, Mercedes MB904, and GM small block, and big block gas.... All of which we have factory programs installed in the SBDT. We also have Allison as well. Because my resorces are not as intense or current as the dealer would have, I usually send most of this kind of work out. I am trying to hang on to whatever diagnostic daylight I can, in hopes not lose complete touch! Last question, was about my scanner. I have a small hand held HD reader from OTC that will give me j1939, j1708/j1587 so I can read engine, trans, and abs codes. I can not monitor PIDS. I used it here in the past, and compared it to the SBDT and so far so good! Do you know of any issues with this type of scanner, am I wasting my time using it? Thanks for all the help!
  8. Hi, everyone! I have a p700 vin# 5B4KPD25973426076 (2007) Driver complaint.. engine running funny. I used our shop SBDT, and was unable to scan. No com port. I had my personal OTC scanner at the shop, and it showed no codes on the j1939. However on the j1708/j1587 it had all six injectors below normal or open, and 078 eng#1 fuel pump actuator bad. I was able to clear the codes, and road test, no codes. Truck runs fine. My question is, why cant I scan with the shop computer, but I can with mine? Also does this look familiar to any one? Am I looking at and IDM issue, or... hate to say it EGR cooler?
  9. Larry, I don't think I will get the chance to go over there. It would be cool, but we are a bit short handed at the moment. I think it is awesome, that we made the connection with the dealer, through this site! Every one on DTS, is great! I will keep you posted on anything that I might find, and blown99 will keep us posted as well!
  10. Nice! pat told me you did not have room today, so I was told to send it monday morning. Sorry to give you someone elses problem child. You guys do great work, so I told pat I would rather send it to you.
  11. Hi, everyone! Well my famous roadcall truck is at it again! The truck is not here yet, but on the hook! From the drivers discription, the blown fuse issue seems to be ok....still cranks! Thanks again blown99! Now it cranks, coolant coming out the tail pipe! 3rd time! I heard that this repeat failure could be due to a clogged oil cooler! Any info on that? What do you guys think?
  12. Keith, I'm not looking too good man! I just saw the photopost! thank you! Is it ok to post some picks of our racecar?
  13. just noticed this post. What ever you think is cool! you guy's are awesome, you do a lot of good work for us!Thanks!
  14. Hi, blown99! Well I feel pretty stupid, that I missed that chaffed wire! I am glad that I found this site, and made a connection with you. It's nice to be able to communicate with the tech that gets our trucks! We are so behinde in our books, and equipment, and it can be a real struggle. I'm looking at sec 7 page 351, and it shows the ecm, idm, and egr controller tied together by the can2 datalink. On the engine & chassis schematic pages 102 and 103 I can see the ecm relay has a 10a fuse, and the idm relay logic pwr has a 10a fuse. I am still uncertain if it is the same, or a seperate 10a? Any way I will have to look back at what circuit numbers I isolated, but it was definatly on the idm side that kept blowing my test fuse, not the ecm. I do see the 40a fuse on pin 85 of the idm main power relay Thank you for all your help! I greatly appreciate learning all I can!
  15. Hi, Larry! ya, it had 2 egr coolers, and I thought I looked at the harness pretty good, but blown99 says he found a chaffed ecm power wire above the radiator support. I totally missed it! My resources here at UPS could be better. Thats why I looked into this site, because we need all the help we can get! I really appreciate all the help and support from everyone here! I didn't even have a schematic, unil I found it here. Thank you for your help!
  16. No problem on the pics, but I dont want to sound totally stupid, new to this site....how do I upload pics?
  17. Hi, everyone! I was able to spend time on this truck. I made a remote fuse holder, with the ecm, idm, and egr controller, on seperate 10a fuses, in series, with the factory (10a) fuse, bumped up to a 15a for testing. After running the truck for 2 hours, I was able to determine the idm was the problem. I installed a 20a fuse in the factory position, and a 20a in the remote side. Then I used my amp meter, and at first start (hot) it was at 20a for a second, then down to 14 amps after a minute of running. After 5 minutes of idling, it stayed at 11a. I orderd an idm, and will see how it does. Thanks for all the help! I hope this might help someone else!
  18. Hi, Bruce! Thanks for that info! Sorry for the late reply! working nights, and had to get our dragster ready for a vintage aircraft/car show charity, for kids. I hope to get that fuse setup installed tonight, see how busy my night is. I have 52 trucks in my fleet, that my drivers wait to write up at the last minute. Thanks again.
  19. Hi, Bruce! I have ISIS. This truck has had 2 EGR coolers. It now has a pretty good oil leak from the top of the motor, didnt get in to that yet. Sounds like a good plan. After thinking about using a breakout box, to install lower amp fuses, without having it in front of me, not sure if I can pull it off the way I was hoping? I really apprieciate all your help!
  20. Hi, Keith! All you guys are right on top of this! Thanks for all your help so far! As soon as I get my hands on a breakout box, I will make 3 test leads with 7.5 fuses covering the ecm, idm, and egr controller. then I will put it on the road, if it breaks down opening either the ecm, or idm ckt. I will know which caused it. Feel funny asking this question though... what do you think about installing a circuit breaker, in place of the 10a fuse? I know its asking a lot, but it would allow the truck to restart, and make the day. Also the 7.5 fuse at the breakout box would be blown, and I would find it.
  21. I have also seen quite of few harness chaffing over the radiator. I checked for that, and did not find any issues. From a reply earlier from Bruce, I thought my best optiion would be, to install a breakout box, install 3 test leads with 7.5a fuses covering the ecm, idm, and egr controller. Then I would be able to determine which component was drawing 10amps or more. I monitored the amps at the ecm/bat fuse, and had 6 amps cold start up, and 3amps after warm up. can not duplicate in the shop, so I thought this would help me zero in on it. What do you think?
  22. Hi, Bruce! Thanks for the info It is a p 700. Good tips, I work nights, so o will be on it tonight! I will let you know what I find! Thanks again.
  23. Hi, Keith! Thank you for the info. I work nights, and will be on it tonight. I will let you know what I find. Thanks again!
