  1. Is the customer running it out of or near out of fuel? Everyone knows the Distance Till Empty is an "estimation" at best, but customer's seem to think it's accurate down to the .1 mile. I've had trucks run out of fuel with 18 miles left on the DTE reading. Maybe it's possible the customer is near empty (light on, DTE under 50 miles) and is parking it on an incline like a driveway. One little sip of air will lock out the system and have air bubbles present at the HP fuel bleed hose. Just a though.
  2. Man, you guys have it hard. Here in California everytime I need to pull a cab the truck has usually been raped again and again by different dealers who usually leave everything loose. I've taken cab bolts out with a 3/8" air ratchet.
  3. If you think that's bad, I've had to put two tires on my wife's BMW 335I this year due to nails. They are always too close to the sidewall and are run flats so I don't bother to try to patch them. 19"'s in the rear, 18"'s in the front. Michelin Pilot ZR tires, W speed rating, run flats. My cost is $490 for one rear tire, $340 for one front tire.
  4. Has anyone else had no luck with this TSB? I've done three since last week and nothing has changed. One set a P0088 again, it's out of warranty and getting a pump. I've got two that are in warranty and have not cleared the P1000 after 150 miles of driving. Hotline said to performed Pin Point tests M and ME.
  5. At that time they were back flagging all diesel techs and skimming off of the service advisor's and parts counterperson's spiff programs to help pay off a huge chargeback from a Ford audit. I'm glad I don't work there anymore.
  6. Those look cool. I wish our Snap On guy would should up more than once every two months.
  7. Here in California it is illegal to "back flag" a technician but no techs seem to know that so the dealer gets away with it. At my previous dealer I got back flagged from a charge back on a 6.4 ESB I did months earlier. They wanted to back flag 10 plus hours, I cited the labor law section to the service manager. He gave me a cold stare but after that, no back flags. It's called the cost of doing business. If your dealer is back flagging you on repairs that you already got paid for on your paycheck, they need to refund you your income taxes you paid on that money. So say you get paid $30 and hour, get back flagged 15 hours ($450 without taxes), with a 7% tax rate, ask for your $31.50 back.
  8. A few years ago that would have warranted complete fuel system replacement.
  9. Usually you'll see dried up coolant around the horz. EGR cooler inlet and outlet. The only time I see a "blown" EGR cooler on the 6.4L like a 6.0L, there was a window in the cylinder block. If a 6.4L is loosing coolant and white smoke from the tail pipe, I'm removing both coolers for testing, coolant pump to inspect front cover, and thermostats for hyper-extension.
  10. Same here. They load up the other guy because he gets paid less per hour than I do. 3-4 out of every 10 trucks he touches comes back with the same problem yet they still load him up. Example: Hack did bed plate gasket in 6.0L when almost out of warranty, in chassis. Of course said had to do front cover first, get an extra 6 hours out of the job. Now the truck is out of warranty, out of 12 mo/12k warranty and this poor guy brings his truck back atleast once a month for oil leaks. Hack replaces oil cooler base gasket, next time HP oil pump cover gasket, next time rear cover. Just beating around the bush because he does not want to re-do the bed plate gaskets the right way, with the engine on a stand.
  11. Right now I've got a 2009 F-450 ambulance with 105k on the clock and a repeat P252F. The tech's that work for the city questioned my diagnosis and took the unit back to their shop since it's out of warranty with no ESP. It turned back up in a few days with an open CUDL. My diag found no oil overfull condition, no oil entering the CAC. I've got cylinder 8 at 100 psi lower than all other cylinders, glow plug tip not melted, injector nozzle not melted, injector fuel trims all read 0 to -2. Pulled the rocker arms off, found the pivot feet hammered into the valve bridges. According to hotline they have seen compression go up 80 psi with new rockers (yeah ok). To add fuel to the fire I did a debris test when I removed the injectors, found tons of metal and there is an obvious oil leak from the bed plate. Parked next to it is a 03' F-250 with 200k and leaking from everywhere. Came in as a no start, ICP blown out leaking oil. Fixed that, fire it up, smell burning. Found FICM too hot to touch. Pulled FICM apart, found circuit board melted. Replaced FICM, found another oil leak from oil cooler base gasket leaking down front and back of motor. Replaced oil cooler since SA wanted to fix the "drips" first. Test drive it, found oil dripping from bed plate to front cover seal area on left side, where diesel fuel has been leaking for quite some time (fixed that too). That motor is comming out and every single gasket will be replaced.
  12. You have to drive the vehicle for a minimum of 25 miles for the DTC to clear. Don't worry, it dosen't tell you that in the PCED, workshop manual, SSM, or TSB. Clear all DTC's, drive for over 25 miles, said DTC should be gone. Been there, done that.
