Put 2 injectors in the truck that I'm waiting for a rear end for. Holy cow is this thing hacked to hell! Nothing really stood out as unusual at first glance but once I started taking the valve covers off it all became apparent who ever worked on this thing previously didn't give a shit about anything. Atleast half of the valve cover bolts were crossthreaded in, 2 were missing completely, 6 of the holes had absolutely no usable threads left in the rocker box and I just pulled the bolts right out. Every single damn oil rail bolt looks like someone jammed a T25 in the head and spun it with a gun. I had one hell of a time getting the 2 underneath the evaporator housing loose. All 3 ficm connectors have no locking tabs, neither do either one of the glowplug module connectors. 1 bolt holding the stator in on the bottom, the intake manifold bolt holes for the top 2 stator bolts have no threads left in them. This thing has brand new headbolts sticking out of it, and being an 07 I was surprised to find it has precommonized heads on it. I seriously hope no one butchered up the gasket surfaces because I'm gonna have to be the one to fix it. I figured out something else too if anyone ever runs into valve cover bolt holes with no threads left. 6.4 valve cover bolts/studs are slightly longer, I cut the grommet and collar off the 6.4 bolt, cut the 6.0 bolt to save the collar/grommet, slid it on the 6.4 bolt and it has just enough length to catch the very bottom threads in the rocker box. I wasted an entire pack of 6.4 studs on this truck. 2 other holes were unsalvageable

Actually I already figured that out on my own, go figure! stuck them in the case, slid it out far enough to get a good hold with a jack and pulled it off the studs. Had someone else lower it down while I sat on my ass and steadied it.

Yikes that one's getting a drop in. Excessive wear on the drive side of the gears and decent sized metal chunks I can only assume came from the trutrac. Definite water intrusion.

cab on engine out
Matt Saunoras replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
yep found that one out. One of the truck shops down the street insists on having roof racks even on there damn 6.4s. It was just a partial lift for an up-pipe and they all wanted to know how I did it. -
Well another new one. 07 F-450 6.0 with a howl from the rear on tip in. Spicer S110, found a couple metal shavings that made there way into the rear hubs, nice metallic content in the fluid too. Never once touched a front loader Also had water in the front hubs, couple frozen front axle u-joints. I had to pull the RF wheel bearing and axle all as one because the locking hub was in a million pieces and rusted to the axle shaft. Also needs a power steering pump, HFCM side cover, and probably a couple injectors I doubt I'll make time on it but man atleast I'm not working on a car

ding ding ding, we have a winner. My boss is all about money, I doubt good employees would matter much if they're not producing hours. I've been predicting this exact situation for months now. Call me a pessimist I don't care, everyone but me is excited for the new shop. I could only hope that the service personell gets an overhaul.

Found a few more in some old pics I have This is the 6.0 serp belt tool I made, this was dicussed in a previous thread and deemed unnecessary but honestly I like mine a lot. I've made about a half dozen of these so far. Here is the mid length T40 which was one of the very first tools I modified. I've since made a T45 that fits 6.4s and 6.0s and stubby 10 & 12mm hex sockets for econoline standpipes.

I have a quite a few tools I've made, some pic worthy and others not so much. This is the only one I have with me right now. It's a 6.4 banjo bolt, washers and the fuel line test port cut off and welded shut. It can be used for checking fuel pressure on a 6.0 F or E-series with a standard off the shelf fuel pressure guage.

Makes you wonder how anything gets done with stupid layouts like that. Actually I'm too embarassed to post pics of my shop

cab on engine out
Matt Saunoras replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Wow I never realized that, I've only ever removed pieces one at a time for a rad replacement. It seems like this would be the deal for doing front covers though. -
not sure about today but oasis has been useless the last couple days. I've got PCEDs and wiring diagrams laying all around

We've got a new asset guy and I swear the kid is a fucking klepto. He walks over today with a pile of wrenches and says here these are yours! I never saw him take one I cap all lines, powersteering, tranny, anything that can leak on me when a cab's up. Not one turbo has ever been returned with a cap.

Edge door latch replacement
Matt Saunoras replied to Brad Clayton's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
sigh, unfornately I'm all too familar with this process. And yes a long time ago I did learn the hard way not to impact the 10mm bolts out. -
Well being the tool junkie I am I ordered a socket from electrodiesel. Now I just want to find a reliable source of o-rings. Not sure about the o-ring part number I listed previously. The 8 o-rings with the tool are much smaller than I imagined. The approx measurements of the o-rings are 1.005" diameter x .105" thickness

I'm not looking it up, please don't ruin my weekend

I would want to try it once just to say I did it

I've never really done a whole lot to LS's but I guess they were on the way out when I was on the way in. Coils, valve cover gaskets, heater valves, thermostats, blend door actuators, shift solenoids. It always seems to be the same stuff. I agree though the LS's we see now are piles of garbage.

Injector Stiction Repair
Matt Saunoras replied to mchan68's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I'm staying out of that one. I sold a guy a cleaned intake on the org boards and I brought him to the shop to pick it up. He was trying to convince me to take out my injectors and clean them. I could have stood there and argued with him for hours and he wouldn't have got it... so I didn't say anything. The liability issue is huge. what happens when one of those spool valve nuts backs out and finds its way into somewhere it shouldn't. I'll stick with ford reman injectors with a 12/12 parts warranty. If anyone else understands the inner workings of an injector I would like to know what else wears out on the inside as a result of normal use. -
We use MOC products. I won't sell it

Doing cab off 6.0 head gaskets. Customer opted for studs which I haven't installed in a while. ARP dropped the torque spec if you slather on their special "ultra" lube

thanks!

I go well out of my way to MIG weld broken bolts out and it's at the point now that I'm expected to do it. No extra time, no tossing me a bone every once in a while even though I take care of them all and everyone one elses without even thinking about it. Oh well, whatever

Smoke from exhaust on accel
Matt Saunoras replied to Mekanik's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I usually find I have to drive them 10 or 15 miles before they'll even initiate a regen. What does your DPF load pid read? -
I fucked up saturday. Put the right bank of injectors in my truck and now the left bank is having sympathy pain. My power balance looks like a zigzag now from 4 contributing good and 4 contributing like 90k mile injectors. I'm accepting donations for 4 more 6.0 injectors
