  1. IMG_1463[1].MOV I have one stumping me. I have a 2004 early build 6.0 that misfires on cylinders 5,6,8 only at idle when warm in drive. Trucks has good acceleration and drives great. DTC P0278 sets. Noticed when coming to a stop the whole bank cylinders 2,4,6,8 drop and as soon as I stop at idle in drive 5,6, and 8 begin to drop -10 rpm . Relative compression test passes, manual compression all cylinders are about 380psi. Ficm m power remains at 48 volts. Fuel pressure is at 67 psi. I replaced the fuel check valves and fuel filter standpipe ( fuel filter standpipe was broken). No fuel aeration. When I disconnect the icp sensor the engine smooths out the power balance is straight. I replaced the icp sensor and connector., concern was still there. Fuel filters where changed and lof was performed.. I replaced all 8 fuel injectors with the early style correct fuel injectors. But the misfires remained at 5,6,8. I air pressure tested the high pressure oil system with the engine hot and hear no air leaks. I switched the high pressure oil rails to the opposite sides and retested. Replaced the driver side high pressure hose, both high pressure oil standpipes, and both check valves on the high pressure oil rails. Installed a known good ipr and concern still present. Power balance remained at 5,6, and 8. Noticed when pressing on the brake pedal hard the concern goes away. Removed serpentine belt and concern went away. Inspected pulleys but all pulleys were good. Fan does not stay engaged. Noticed it does this based on IPR load. Decided to get the engine hot and removed the driver side valve cover. Ran the engine with driver side valve cover off and noticed excessive oil was misting from the top of all 4 injectors on the driver side at about 800 rpm and above. Don’t know if this is normal but any help would be greatly appreciated. I have contacted hotline gave them my diagnosis but they basically told me to replace the high pressure oil pump and contact them only after I replaced it. I replaced it doubting them and the concern was still present. After I told them results and the concern remained they basically said I was on my own and to escalate it to the and service manager. I’m the only diesel tech at my dealership. And the Shop foreman has no diesel experience. IMG_1463.MOV
  2. Had a turbo bearing failure with oil leaking into engine caused the engine to hydrolock. Bent connecting rod #8 . Piston skirt and cylinder wall got damaged. The oil level was really low.
  3. What about the steering shaft and heater hoses? Do they have to be disconnected when doing this procedure?
  4. Finally got to work on one, came in for overheating. Pressure tested cooling system, Saw no external coolant leaks. Could see some coolant residue on the egr cooler clamp. Pressure did drop. I didn't follow the workshop manual for the removal procedure, it was telling me to remove the intake manifold and egr valve. Managed to get it out without removing them. Once I removed could see it was wet inside with coolant. Pressure tested egr cooler and failed It was somewhat of a PITA. Only has 17,000 miles.
  5. Last time I had a p0087 was because their was Small metal flakes in the high pressure fuel system. There was no visible metal flakes on the pcv or vcv. But when I took a sample from the left rail on the return line in a black cap I found the metal flakes.
  6. I use a combination wrench ezred ez4s38l with a torx 30 bit more leverage if they're real tight,
  7. You are correct no rusty bolts.I live in Southern California. Must be a pain working on a 6.4 with rusty bolts.
  8. Make sure you are getting base fuel pressure and reset high pressure fuel pump parameters and bleed the low side and high pressure side system.
  9. I always remove the hpfp with the cab on. Get it out and put back together and running in 5 hours.
  10. Yea I saw the video a lot of good info there. Always learning new things. Thanks guys.
  11. Installed a new DPF, Problem gone. Drove 35 miles problem never returned. I don't know how a code didn't pop up if it was clogged. It doesn't look like it has carbon buildup and I try to shine light through it but don't see it at the other side. This truck was a pita to diagnose. Thank you everyone for your time and info. You guys are very helpful.
  12. Yes turbo is oem, my coworker replaced it already but concern is still present. Checked the fitting in the manifold but it is clean no carbon. put a wire throughout it anyways to make sure. And there seems to be airflow through the egr pipe as mentioned above EGRTA reading 291F and EGRTB reading 154F.When opening egr valve EGRTB would climb to 188F. 34 F difference.
  13. Have been using parts off a truck that we are waiting for authorization for an engine it's all torn down. But we swapped the ebp and tube together. And still no difference.
  14. Hahaha. Yes it sweeps I let go of it and goes all the way back to its place. Have tried it multiple times does not stick. Also commanded voy actuator does not have any trouble moves as commanded.
