I thought that was the plan back in 1986, with the release of the Probe, before the '87 to '93 models came out. Not before MILLIONS protested to Ford.

Yeah like the US would allow a Mazda engineered vehicle become the next Mustang???? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/boink3.gif

Ford had the 2.3 and the 2.3 SVO which was pretty decently powered, as for Chevy they had the old Iron Duke 2.5 which SUCKED from day one. It lasted from 1982-1985. Wonder why???? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif

the 2.3 turbo was available in GT's and SVO's , the 4 Cly GT's weren't popular due to the fact that the 2.3L turbo 4 cyl cost more than a V8 5.0L GT.

What is lost on some is the balance of the car... For ground pounding torque, a V8 is the way to go.... For the "twisty bits", a healthy 4 cylinder is the way to go. A car that scoots around corners as if it were on rails is a refreshing change from having to man-handle a car with a heavy front weight bias... A tap of the brakes can be enough to set the front end of the car for the corner - after that, the only limit is the tires.

Of course... we could all chip in and buy Grampy a Bugatti Veyron.....
