New Fuel Heater? When?

I am working on a 2003 SD that just cuts out while driving. I am chasing down the VPWR circuit to the engine cause thats where I usually find a short. Anyway, the fuel heater is in this circuit and over the years I have found a lot of those rotted out and shorting on the filter or base. Long story short - it'sdifferent! When did this change type/style/ I am used to the flat plate type and this truck has a tube. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

This job sounds familiar. I have come across the harness chafing on the valve cover at the 42 way connector where it droops down towards the fender well. If its a dirty truck the harness can wear on the valve cover if its touching and short out causing the `ol PCM reset. Don't forget the trans harness that drapes over the left shock tower too. It has a VPWR circuit in it as well.

I have also seen this happen due to chaffing or rodent damage at the IPR connector. The circuit shorts on the IPR body and causes the fuse to pop.

I can't tell you how many nests I've seen in the valley , but it's alot. Kinda falls along the lack of maint. issue.
