top notch 64 turbo r&r

I know we all make mistakes from time to time or forget something here and there, but this truck has enough tech induced issues to take care of a couple of years worth of fuck ups.

I only gave this thing a quick once over (re once'd over it with camera, no one would believe it if I didn't). The cab was just off for a set of turbos, simple enough right?

CAC tubes, clamp orientation or boot fitment isn't important on a setup that can make 50 pounds of boost, eh?

Proper battery cable and a/c routing.

Lets not forget why its here in the first place, turbos, however no one said anything about having to reuse that pesky heat shield.

That little hose that goes into that little hole...... not needed on this application.

This is just fancy here. Let's reroute this hood safety latch cable in the most awkward and difficult way possible.

And this brings us to why the truck was brought to us....

I was having a bitch of a time getting that fuel cooler system filled back up and bled with the radiator sitting on the hot hose. Of course it was super easy to jack that corner of the body up and free the trapped hoses cause this body bolt was never put back in.

So is there any reason for CAC hose clamp orientation other than so they don't rub on anything and are accessible. I always try to put everything back the way it was or is supposed to be, which is why I rarely make time on big jobs atleast until I have done quite a few. I doesn't help that I get to stop to take care of customers multiple times a day. :chinrub2:

Not that I am aware of, the engineers did a pretty good job of stapling the clamps in about the best spot possible.

My guess is that the turbocharger heat shield bolts would not line up because the turbos were not pulled together enough. The gap looks a little too wide from my experience. Should end up about the width of the lifting bracket tool when all is said and done yet here it looks like it's about three times that. The WSM mentions measuring that space and reinstalling them to the same dimension but I prefer the "bracket gap" setting personally as it works perfectly every time. I recall that was mentioned in training too. Just sayin.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. I had to do a manual regen on this unit and turbos sans heat shield gave me an excellent chance to measure the temps. High pressure was at 540 F and low pressure unit was around 430 F.

How's the rest of the cab r and r look? Is the ground strap busted to the firewall or under the passenger front door? Cage nuts are all spun I bet. Be neat to see the floor under the carpet. :D

It seems like they are all coming in ugly like this lately. Sales went to auction bought a 6.4 for a customer, delivered to him sat. back today mil on.  They asked me to take quick look today and get an ideal what we have going on. I opened the hood was ugly like your pictures. It wont leave my stall like this decide if you want to fix correctly or send back to auction.
