3.5 Ecoboost chain noises

This topic has never seen much activity here I guess due to the diesel nature of this place. Has the TSB for full chain, tensioner and phaser change seemed to be the long term fix? I have one that is clean and has had oil service history of 5K changes and at 140K it is start up rattling with the primary chain tensioner extended too much. They indicate that the truck will not be getting traded away any time soon as they want it be the daughter's in a couple of years. I think the full meal deal is the way to go if the extra cost is buying longevity.

Any thoughts?

Where it's Retail, that's how I quote them. Even if there is a repeat of this issue in another 140K miles, how long will it take to get there?

I don't do much gas work at all. One of the guys in my shop had an Explorer - doing a water pump and there was some chain noise on start up. He showed me that main chain had some slack in it and even the phaser chains. Granted the engine was not running and the renstioners were not pumped up but is this common? Eeeeesh!

I've done quite a few Police Explorer 3.7L water pumps now. Yes, a little slack is normal. As long it's not excessive. The biggest issue, is ensuring proper crank pulley bolt torque when completing the repair, so as not to cause damage to the woodruff key. I believe there's an SSM about it.
