  1. Here is the senario: Try to start truck, weak batteries and starter. Replace batteries, starter shot. Replace starter, fires occasionally, but mostly just cranks. Perform diag, find contaminated fuel. Verify fuel source is ok. Improperly installed and clogged fuel filter. Replace filter, clean fuel taken from seperator drain. Still no start, continue diag, find weak pump. Replace pump, vehicle starts, warm to temp, vehicle develops miss. Retrieve DTCs for #8. Perform diag, find engine requires inj. Look at compressor blade while intake air tube is off, hey it looks just like the one in the photos!! The vehicle has 44,000 miles, and has been obviously abused! When does it stop? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
  2. Does anyone find the new format easier to use? Why do I have to now search to get to oasis, the PTS site, or service publications. What the hell was wrong w/ the old format?
  3. I tried a FICM from an 04, but it needs to be flashed to the vehicle as the calibrations are different. The truck only has 18,000 miles, but is an early 03. The IPR changed nothing, and the hotline would only authorize the 1 inj. This is a flagged VIN for special handling, as this customer has had this complaint for quite awhile, and a different dealer said numerous times there were no problems, so he brought it to me. I ran oasis, and the hotline called me! As a side note, nothing is felt at idle, only between 1500-2000 rpm. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif
  4. This truck came in as a hard start, but it is more like a no start. My sample taken from the filter drain looked like pond water, and did not smell like fuel, but samples taken from the inlet side of pump are clean, as well as the outlet side. If I run the pump using a Power Probe and take sample from the drain, it comes out clean, but if I crank the engine, and take a sample it is contaminated, possibly w/ oil, not sure. FP is 2-4ms IPR is 38% ICP is 2-2300 psi, engine oil level ok. Occasionally it starts, but is only running on a few cylinders, and dies after 30 to 60 seconds. Any ideas?
  5. Thanks guys for the answer. I was paid previously for the diag, 2.8 or so, but I did not expect the inj. R&R to only pay 2.1hr. [also got paid for the wrong side!] It took 0.3 just to get the wheels off so as to lower it enough to reach into the engine bay, I'm 6'3" and it's still a hassle. The really digusting part is I have a twin to this that requires #1 and #3, and that truck is lifted w/ 38"rs /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif
  6. Does 1.7 hr to replace #3 injector sound right? Or should that labor op be used in conjunction w/ something else? Technically that is the time to replace all inj. on left bank, or is right bank? depends on where you stand! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  7. Originally flagged #3 in memory, only happened at part throttle cruise 70-80mph. pass all tests install injector per hotline, retest, miss feels worse. Can duplicate miss in park, steady throttle 1500-2000 rpm. Power balance shows all cylinders miss, but none are flagging. Passes relative compression. Hotline suggests IPR, although no flucuations seen, all other specs ok. what do you guys think? IPR or FICM? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  8. Think about just how assinine this all sounds! remove turbos and transmissions, just to remove a stinking y-pipe. I have to belive that Ford is going to a bigger truck, that will make this service friendly, much like the change in '99. As a result the 7.3 fit better than the previous F Series. I was just trying to figure out what additional parts I should order. Thanks for the replys. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  9. Is this the reverse plantary recall? I am not a tranny tech, but I have removed 2 for said recall, w/ 1 having a hole in the case where a retining ring punctured it. The wierd part is that it looks like it was punctured from the outside. According to Ford, this is one of the manifestations of the failed part. Vehicle came in for trans slip and fluid leak, not for the recall, although it applied.

  11. It's been a loooong time since I've done this. Can I pull them out, or do I have to undo the motor mounts? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif Never mind, it all came back to me.
  12. '04 350, cuts out for no particular reason, and I mean for a fraction of a second. No DTCs, not repeatable, that is untill I touched the harness over bank 2, once found, I could make it stall at will. Mind you, there was no external chaffing! My take on this is as follows: Harness mfg. in Mexico for pennies on the dollar.Shows in the fact that retainers are installed incorrectly, or not at all. Harness shipped to Indiana, where highly paid, unmotivated union workers must install them on poorly built engines.Hell,if it don't fit, make it fit! Stretch it!Twist it!Whatever! It'll work, besides we don't have to fix it if it dosen't. I opened 2 harnesses, and short of striping indv. wires you won't see a thing Bottom line is, we are the ones taking it in the ass, because of other peoples shody workmanship. This is just my opinion, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
  13. Oh boy I can't wait! Thankfully we have not sold one of these abortions yet, but odds are I'll get one from some other dealer who is smart enough to say they can't work on them [Read WON'T!!]. Has anybody figured out how to get a van body off? Oh wait, it's a C/C with an affixed 20' box! HA HA! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif
  14. Is it possible [quicker/easier] to remove the adapter from vehicle without removing the turbo? The only time I've removed them, the turbo had already been taken off. 2004 F-350 Thanks, Stephen. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  15. Did anybody watch this? My shop foreman and I logged in at 11:05 and it was already done. What happened? The PTS forums have some pretty funny comments. Seems all that was said was the torque for injectors is 24 ft lbs. It was supposed to be cold start/loss of power tech tips. How typical of Ford to hallyboo this, and it turns out to be nothing. Just goes to show , the only people who know or care about 6.0Ls are the ones working on them. Just my point of view.
  16. Does anybody have a suggestion on removing a 7.3 when you do not have the brackets. Any help is appreciated. Thanks /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  17. I remember talk about each tech having his own computer back in '97-'98. Ofcourse nothing came of it. I remember being told WDS would be LAPTOP! HA! I got out in '01, and still had not seen anything that resembled a computer, but when I came to my current employer, much to my surprise, each tech had his own terminal, and they had for years. I guess it all depends on how motivated your shop and principal is. Having my own terminal, I can't imagine ever working w/o one ever again.
