  1. She is definitely fuckin with Alex. I bet she sits around at night laughing her ass off at his expense.
  2. Quote: In all honesty, I don't think our jobs are any more dangerous than we choose to make them. It's not me so much that I have to worry about, it's the guy beside me doing something stupid that usually gets you hurt. I know quite a few people who have been mowed down in a shops. It drives me bat shit to see an employee bring their small children into the shop.
  3. Quote: we are required at my company to remove the keys from the ignition and hang them on the windshield with a lock out tag while working on vehicles I'm glad I don't work for your company. I am a transmission guy and every car that is in my bay is in neutral.
  4. No sir, I'm thinking it would be a good time to swing down and pick up Mr. Holekamp and all his EGR cores and personally deliver them to the guys in Arizona then hit up Vegas. That should get you out of the shop for a good week or two. That's plenty of time for some poor sap to get your problem child. Of course there may be a hit takin' out on you though.
  5. The TBC is the only one I would unplug, lots of 'em taking a dump.
  6. Seems like a cut and dry PATS key issue or handshake between PCM-IC? If you encounter this and can't communicate with any module on the network, unplug the trailer brake control module and retry the network test. If everything is back online the TBCM is at fault and should be swapped out.
  7. I don't think I would go to work on Monday.
  8. I ran across something today that make me stop and think how dangerous are jobs really are and how much we take for granted our safety. This is a caution for anyone who may be working under the hood of a vehicle equipped with OTIS (one touch integrated start). I was working on a 2011 Super-Duty and I needed to turn the key to run to prime the fuel system. I was not seated in the vehicle facing the steering wheel but I was standing outside the truck and leaning in to reach the key. It was a very awkward angle and when I turned the key to the run position, I barely turned it a bit more and the starter engaged. Before I knew what was happening, I had already backed out of the vehicle and had to scramble to get back to the key, the engine had spun over a good 4 to 5 times. I mention this because there are always times when we are under the hood and we need someone to turn the key to run for us but not start the vehicle. With the above incident, things would have been very bad for anyone who may have been in a compromised position under the hood. Then there is always the chance that the person enlisted to help may just be an average Joe that is not privy to what can happen when the key is turned aggressively and or with awkward body positioning.
  9. I'm all for recycling but it can be a pain in the ass sometimes. I am an inherently lazy mofo to begin with and that doesn't help my view on the subject. I recently accumulated enough junk egr coolers to sell to bulletproof. I went on the website to see what was involved and how much I could cash in on. but first a little back story: In South Carolina there is no deposits on soda cans, you just throw the thing in the trash when its empty. Vermont has a bottle bill law (to promote recycling) and you pay for the deposit when you buy the soda with the idea that you get your money back when you bring the empty can to a redeemer. So we throw our emptys in a bag. I saw the bag was full the other day and decided to cash in <rings hands together excitedly>. Now, not everybody in my household is as considerate as me and they don't wash out the cans, so I got a big ol bag of stinky, sticky cans looking like the Gringe who stole Christmas and hoping they don't leak in my car. Now I'm driving all the way down to the bottle redeemer, standing in line, by the way it's summer time and the place reeks to high heaven, and watching what appears to be all the extras from the Chain Saw Massacre that didn't make the cut, count my cans. So what did I make out with in my pockets? 2 dollars and 15 cents! So much for buying lunch with my earnings, but I did get my money back on the sodas I bought a month ago <blows raspberries >. Bulletproof is gonna give me 20 bucks a core with a minimum shipment of 5 cores. No problem, except that I can't find a friggin box that will hold 5 of them heavy things. After scrounging around I get a box that is marginal at best. I pack the cores in the box like I am sending my grandmothers fine china half way round the world (they won't pay for beat up cores) and tape the shit out of it. You never can have too much tape on a box, right? I go back to the website and email them for a core label for Fedex. Now it's a waiting game, and 3 days pass with no answer. I re-email them and get a label which I have to print out and then go to the Fedex website to find a place to ship them out. Now I got to drive down to this place and get there 5 minutes too late. It was Saturday and now I am lugging this box around in my Sploder all weekend til Monday. I finally get the damn thing shipped off (the label expires pretty quick) and I wait for a check. You can use paypal but it costs you to receive money. The check arrived today and man was that a pain in the ass for $100 dollars. But wait one core belonged to the guy at the end of the shop and 2 were from the guy beside me, so I got a whopping 40 bucks plus any gratuities I might get from these fellas.
  10. Anybody took a look at the new OASIS symptom coding coming out in July? They got codes for every frickin thing now. There won't be any vague "I think this fits my concern" anymore.
  11. The 6.0l was doomed from the beginning. The 7.3l had 6 head bolts per cylinder. The 6.0l cut it back to 4 and then used them to hold the rockers in as well.
  12. Quote: Granted there isn't much more I could use as far as tools go Bullshit! You can always use more tools
  13. I think head stud installation sucks, I would much rather tighten a torque to yield bolt. The factory bolts are tit to tighten with a cheater bar and you can start and stop as many times as you want before reaching the desired turning degree. With the studs, you have to use that nasty lubricant shit and once you start turning you absolutely cannot stop till you reach the desired torque. As far as longevity, if the owner is working the truck with in it's limits the studs will work as intended, but if the truck is pushed too far beyond that, they will give it up just like the bolts do.

  15. Quote: Basically says I'm fired if I don't do it I had that happen to me once. You know what I did? I did what I was told and kept my job. At the time there were too many people looking for jobs and I had little ones at home to feed.
  16. Quote: "front pump" It's kinda like a "hot water heater". Not real sure why you would need to heat hot water.
  17. Ford had lost their minds when it comes to paying a qualified tech to repair transmissions. I think you can gather from that statement as to whether I make time on them or not. Management is always like "we'll get the hourly guy to pull the trans for you so you can build it" They think they are helping out but they don't realize that's about the only way you can make any money is on the r&r.
  18. Quote: Man if you were closer you could come work with me I'll be there Monday, oh wait.........it's a 6 hour commute (one way) and I am way to burned out to do diesel work.
  19. The cooler must have been just a little blown then <holds finger to thumb and squints at the gap>
  20. The timing cover cavitation is a bit of a different situation than the cylinder liner cavitation. A 6.4l can move some seriously large amounts of water and if it is moving more air than water (due to a leaking radiator or whatnot) then it chews up the metal.
  21. Quote: Like women, a box is a box. You need to find the box you can afford and a box you can live with. Where the hell was this advise when I needed it 17 years ago?
  22. I have had Mac and Snap-On, and I am a Snap-On guy. My biggest thing is actually having $10k worth of tools to put in a box and not an empty $10,000 dollar box. I worked out of some small Mac and Snap-On boxes and Craftsmen until I ran out of room and was putting tools on my bench for storage. I told Snappy to keep an eye out for a good deal and let me know what he came across in his travels. Well, every week he would show me something or tell me about something but it was always a bit more than I wanted to pay. Finally one day he had a repo and it was a deal to good to pass up. He unloaded it right then and I won't need another box for the rest of my career. The box is a Snap-On KRL-1022 artic frost. The best deals out there are the ones that can be someone elses misfortune. The box that I ended up with could have been another brand but I got a $6800 box for $2700 and I am partial to Snappys so it worked out good for me.
  23. Quote: hydraulic reservoir that is changed every spring & fall with different grades for the weather. I wasn't aware that it got warm enough in North Dakota for anything to thaw out from winter to winter.
  24. Well, my youngest son graduated high school today. He leaves for college in a few months. Not to sure what me and the Mrs. are going to do with all the extra space and time now that the last of the 3 will be leaving the nest. But I do have some ideas
  25. Quote: The local police swat team vehicle and its purpose is to give bad guys a bad day. complete with battering ram attachments, second floor lift to shove through a window and pretty much bullet proof. All the body panels around the cab are 1/2" or greater steel plate. The hood and fenders are all 1/4" plate. Windows are 1" thick ballistic glass. Makes me want to move right out to Arizona, I tell ya!
