  1. well it happened ..had to do a set of head/gaskets in the truck ...was unable to lift cab because of firetruck add ons and did not want to pull the engine it is a standard and unable to lift ....so anyways I thaught gee lets follow the book and see how bad it could be...well worst mistake i ever made .. the worst part of the whole job was drivers head bottom last bolt ..book says lift up and secure well there is still no room ..hits fire wall and binds ...comming off not so bad (do not have tobe so gentle as going on ) anyways never again in house will remove engine or lift cab from now on ...oh ya one last note ..torquing the botls down for a 5'10 160lb guy sucks....
  2. found out a couple days ago my manager that i have worked for for 15 years of my working life decided to call it quits this week ... his reasons does not like the direction that ford is headed ...what does this say to you and me ..does he know somthing we dont or has he heard somthing ... the manger and i have traveled together from ford dealer to ford dealer working and striving for bigger and better ..but this bothers me because he states he is now going foreign car model ..any ways just curious on opinoins of the future of ford and why this is happing more often than not .
  3. all software up to date in all the wds's feild engineer says its a quirk in the software some do it some dont
  4. just a question .. anyone out there having phantom issues with wds. one issue i had focus with third return on evap code ..diag with wds shows bleed up and fails test. diag as bad canister vent and verified on bench test ..replace part and retest still fails after new gas tank .fuel pump and many other parts per feild engineer probem with wds and roadtest to clear p1000 ...well cars been gone one month no issues.. then the other day diag 6.0 e series as bad injector .passes all other test ..replace injector and retest now fails relative compression on 3 and 4 .... tech next to me tries to diag expidition abs light and will not perform koeo but can watch pids and passes networktest ........thanks for the input sorry so long ..
  5. any hints to the removal of this engine with out the proper lifting brakets or special tool ..i have done two in the pass and it was hell with the regular engine crane and chain.. dealer refuses to buy proper equip. and says i did it before do it again.. any ways i start on it in morning god help me ...any helpful hints greatly appriciated ..thanks
  6. both the trucks were covered under warrenty first one had an inspector come in and the second one just getting engine for it no issues first e350 i had the egr cooler was the cause the second i have now is a f550 the headgaskets are the cause
  7. check this out 5k miles on 04 f550 cust over heated badly ... repair order says leaking coolant ..(came in on the hook ) go to start truck to drive in shop and engine spins over like it has no compression ... further diag proves no compression in any holes .. borescope holes and all piston and walls damage ... cust never stated anything about how he drove it till it stopped then anthor mile ...repair order only stated coolant leak ... per hotline they have never seen a 6.0 with no compression in all holes .. but this one does ... anyone else run in to this o and i did try two diffrent gauge beacuse i didnt beleive it at first either ...anyways waitng for new engine to arrive
  8. have a curiuos question ..had a 6.0 build date of 3-04-04 and has the ficm recall on ..went to do the recall and the kit does does not work ..there is to much wrape around harness and has multi bolt done clips ..anyways removed all of that to do the recall...had to remove a lot of the harness wrap to make the tee work ...anyways its done ....has anyone else seen this

  12. holy crap ....... that sucked ..anyways i pulled a 6.0 out of a e350 today and it took all day o ya i pulled the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif egine with out the proper gear old fashion chain and hoist boy that was the worst but anyways .... cant wait to run into a ford engineer that came up with this idea

I have a 6.0 liter econiline that came from antoher dealer that said they wont touch it ...anyways it appears that the egr cooler let go and the driver kept going till it stopped ...he drove it so long and so far like this the degas bottle is now a ball of plastic the end of the dipstick is melted and i cant get the cam sensor out because it is melted ...tomorrow i get to remove valve covers to find out why it has no wind or rpm signal...looked in the oil fill tube with borascope and it appears the oil rail is melted i cant wait to see inside ..o ya cant wait to pull the engine with out the proper tools ( on order will take two to three weeks ) but sm wants it out here we go /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  14. the bed plate looks just the pictures on the site showwd the sm and now mayby short block yayayayaya oh ya hotline was no help again go figure somtimes you get someone thats knows what it takes and then moretimes that not you get a complete dope that you want to slap

  17. doing my first bed plate gasket ...although i have had many of these motors out this one seems to be be giving me trouble at every turn ...flywheel /torque convertor nusts very tight and stripping /turbo bolts all broke off in turbo /y pipe bolts rotted and frozen ..well any ways finaly got it out and up side down and appears the bed plate surface and not machined very good .contacted hotline an ws informed to reassemble with new gasket anyways 6.0 bites ..really loosing my sense of humor over this engine
  18. had a coolant leak on a 6.0 today and tried a new trick to repalce it ..it took me about 30 min give or take .... i romoved the turbo tube and then the coolant return port on the oil cooler it is two piece and the port the hose attaches to does come off...so twist the hose and push back with a bar and remove two torx 30 bolts and gently wiggle the cover up /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif it took some wiggling because of a oring but it came off ....just a little trick i tried i thought i would share
  19. holy crap ....i have work on some crappy jobs but this sucked bad... i did my first cylander five injector today....could it be any tighter...I NEED BANDADES NOW ..... well anyways it sucked and now the truck is fixed
  20. among doing all the diesel/i do all the engine work on gas to ..but anyways have a ls with a 3.9 and 3k on it ..story is just driving along then started to skip and rattle ... diag was pcm failure codes and per pced to replace pcm did so started and codes are now gone but still skipping and rattling cylander five missing remove spark plug and found tip was damaged looked in side hole with flash light and you can see the rings on the piston ....thats right the piston was sideways in the bore ..i have seen some pretty destroyed engines but this takes the cake ... it realy did sound that bad running yes it rattled but it sounded like a heat sheild minus the smoke that was pouring out the tail pipe ..anyways just a little story of just driving along and it just started to skip.. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

  22. just curious as to how many harnesses are all of you guys replacing ...I am on number 13 they kinda suck dont they ...but thank god there are so many to do i am getting better at it ......also quick note hotline recommands new ebp and icp with this job ...think there is a problem ....

I do them on the engine stand ..it is what works for me .... i fine it easier in front of me than leaning over the cab ....also trying to twist those bolts would be murder in chasis .. and never used or heard of a co2 tester for headgaskets ...is that the same as sniffing the coolant with the 5 gas sniffer?? oh and i have another 6.0 450 in my bay that needs headgaskets the truck originaly had compression leaking in to the fuel system wich i took care of then 3000 miles later over heating and spewing coolant.. yaaaaaaaaa for me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
