  1. I have a f-450 with a fried engine.Customer complaint truck over

heats and gauge pegs out.Verified concern and pulled codes.Had a p040d.egot code. For shits and giggles called the hotline.Told me to remove oil filter and inspect for melted filter standpipe.Well, did that and sure enough it is toast. That means a new engine for this one.I thought this thing would derate, but customer drove truck two weaks with concern and nothing ever happened.Yes,I don't know how he drove it overheating for that long either.Checked warranty claims and found was at the dealer he bought it from, with the same complaint a week prior.Said in story they could not duplicate concern.BS if you ask me.In story they had same code as me!If anyone gets this code check the oil filter standpipe first.

  2. Finally got this one done.I did partually remove the cab to install the motor, but It was still a nightmare.A fellow tech made a sling for me and we got the engine in after much agrivation. There were a million wires and air lines running under this truck going in and out of the bulkhead. There was also some kind of device running off the hydro boost.Don't even know what all that did ,and don't much care.also had a lightbar that was hung way out over cab for some reason that was welded to the truck bed rails.Once again I am very greatful for the help I have recieved since I joined this sight, and have alot of respect for people who do this day in and day out. Thanks again guys!

  3. I know most people get paid on flat rate.As we all know, watching the gas guys next to you rack up hours on cp doing easier work and flushes is about enough to make you sick.Warranty times for diesel techs suck.As of recently,I worked on both gas and diesel with a bonus for diesel work. Now have a new service manager that is cutting the fat to pad his wallet. He seems as though he wants me to do the diesel and give the gas work to the lower paid, younger techs. This is BS!Tried to discuss this with him,but he is one of those guys that has no listening skills.Says that ever since he became a service manager years ago,all he has heard is techs bitch about everything. The owner of my dealership is a good guy and respects the hard work we do.The service manager is a bottom line guy.Would it be so much to ask to be paid a fair salary! How many get paid in this manner?

  4. I have been on vacation this past week, but got the engine out.It is a major pain in the ass to do it with the cab on.Well anyways, borrored engine stand from fellow dealer and mounted the best I could and found #8 piston skirt broken and cylinder damaged.Requested and got engine.Problem is engine is complete with turbo and the whole nine yards. So now I would have to remove everything off the new engine to get back in.I don't want to do that!I went down to local tool place and bought an engine levelor and sling, but it is not wide enough.Does anyone have a suggestion for a low price sling?

  5. Have an 04 f-250 that will harly move at all when cold and runs like shit when hot.Ran eec test and found p402 and p0341 in memory.Found egr valve stuck open.Replaced that and got rid of thAT CODE.Cleared all codes and checked to see if p0341 would return. This is the camshaft sensor code.It immediately came back and ran pinpoint test.Needs cam sensor.Replace that and now codes don't return. This truck has over 200k miles on it by the way!Started monitering pids and noticed what looks like real trashy icp.At 2000 rpm at steady throttle I would expect to see a fairly clean pattern.Removed icp cover and connector.Found oil coming out of icp,so replaced that, but no change still.oil is good and all other pids look good .ipr is at 26 at idle and seems to move up gradually with load.Am I missing something?

  6. This is an f-450 with a regular cab.The lift I have is a twin post 12k lb lift.I can't even move the forks of the lift close enough together to pick up such a short cab like this one. This truck has every damn thing on the top back and bottom that it could have. When I pick it up it strains the lift it is so heavy.I have already taken most of the front off and part of the top of the engine.I am not very happy about this at all.I am going to check behind the front cover as some have mentioned there are problems with crap left in during molding.I found some metal on the drain plug ,but none in the filter. Can anyone tell me the labor times for removal this way?I am going to take some pictures tommorow and post them.

  7. I have a Goodyear tire service truck with a pto that runs a compressor.I installed a busted radiator back in November.Truck shows back up with a miss and no coolant.Add some water and pressure test.Well,Guess what, this radiator busted in same area.Crank truck up to check for skip.Truck runs like crap on left bank and boiling out white smoke. Then I hear a big Bang, and a persistent knock follows.Oh Crap!Filled out prior appproval and was told to remove oil pan and inspect.Re-wrote them and said hey this thing is knocking like crazy!.Well anyway,Motor needs to removed.Has anyone removed the cab on a truck like this?If you remove the motor with the cab on it's like 158 steps. It is an F-450.Any ideas would be appreciated. Also I would like to thank everyone who has helped me on past post,as I have no hel[p at work.I can only tell you that you all are great!

  8. Just wanted everyone to know that this was caused by a bum cam sensor that installed two weeks ago. After contacting hotline for third time, get someone that says"Has this thing had a cam sensor installed?"Seems some new sensors throw off the signal to pcm causing for corrections that don't need to be made.Hope this helps some other poor sucker. Thanks Ford!

  9. Has anyone else run into one with what sounds like a valvetrain tick that can only be heard at idle?Contacted hotline on this and was informed to increase and decrease icp and listen for noise change.I did,but noise remained. Was told that Ford is aware of this, but no fix yet.Tick noise will skip a beat about

every 5 seconds. Was told they are seeing this after first oil change.

  10. I sure everyone knows the causes of excessive coking, but i'm not sure if all know this.I have a 06 with repeat egr failure due to carbon holding valve open.Yesterday I removed the egr valve stuck open with a big chunk of carbon.removed chunk, cleaned valve and vacuumed intake best I could.Today shows back up on hook with same problem.I wrote to hotline to see what they have to offer. They state to check actual milage by multilping run time by 33.run time was ,as I remember,1740 hours. That comes to 57420 miles..milage on odometer is 39000.The math tells me that this truck is idling alot.Am I wrong,or is this truck idling more than 30 percent of the time?Customer swears not and says he uses cetane booster too. What's your guys opinion.
