Ive got an 03 F250 6.0L with 170,000 miles in my shop at home. It has a Banks Six Gun with IQ, a spiral flow intake system and a Bulletproof Diesel EGR cooler delete. The truck will start bucking hard like it has a bad miss at full power. I checked codes. The only code is a P0341 cam sensor code. He had already installed a new cam sensor. I started a visual inspection and found that the turbo had been dusted very bad. I did a reletive compression and found 0% on all eight cylinders. I told him that he needed a turbo before I went any further. He bought an upgraded Garret towing turbo. I installed it and as you can guess the problem is still there. FICM voltage never drops below 47.5 volts at any time. I checked powerbalance while it was cold and found 3 injectors missing hard. Told him about it and he wanted all eight so I installed them. The truck starts smooth as glass now but the original problem is still there. I have been checking for a rubbed through harness but nothting shows up. On of the guys at the shop had me try a known good MAF. Not the problem. Fuel Pressure is 48 psi with a mechanical guage. Im running out of ideas......any thoughts?

Replacing headgaskets with studs installed
ablokzyl replied to Mekanik's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yes they can be done with the cab on. The drivers side rear is a pain but it is do able. No they do not need to be replaced but when you put them back together use APR lube.....Lots of it! -
First off this truck has a gutted dpf and cat, and it has a superchips programmer that deletes the regen system. The programmer is turned up to the 2nd out of four levels. Customer has been anal about oil changes and fuel filters. He says that he had a trailer with five large quads on it and 5 people in the truck pulling a long gradual grade at around 75mph. The truck started smoking large plumes of blue smoke. He said he pulled over and it definatly smelled like oil burning. The truck stopped smoking and he made the rest of the trip without any more problems. 5000 miles later, the programmer was on the 3rd level and he was pulling a very steep grade with six people in the truck and no trailer, and the truck started smoking just like it did before. He has a 1000 mile trip pulling a very heavy trailer coming up and he is worried that it mihgt break down. I checked for codes really quick before I left on friday and it was all pass. Just thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone has any ideas.

I understand that I should have read the manual. It was supposed to be just a crank seal. Should have been pretty self explanatory. I will definatly check the manual before I pull my next crank pully
-
Exactly what has to be done. I wish I knew that before I pulled the crank pulley!

Customer comes in with a 2010 focus complaining of an oil leak. I find the front crank seal is leaking. So I grab a seal that we had in stock (someone must have ordered it in wrong previously). I removed the balancer only to find that there is no keyway and the balancer has the crank sensor tone ring on it. So I look up how to time the crank pulley to the engine. Get everything moved around and tightend down. Try to start the engine and hear a bunch of ticking noises under the hood during cranking. Little did I realise, but the timing gear also doesnt have a keyway and is held in place by the balancer pulley bolt. I bent all the intake valves! I have never made a mistake like this ever! So just so everyone knows there is no keyway on the crank gear of a 2010 focus!

The last one I had with an overfilled crankcase had an injector line leaking. Customer said that he drove from Texas to Pennsylvania. He pulled over four or five times to drain the oil level so he could get to his next job. I pulled both rocker covers and put dye in the filter housing. Started the truck and could see dripping fuel from the injector line on the drivers side bank. Put on a new line and retested it. Fixed for now. Dont know how much longer it will run factoring in how much dilluted oil was in the crankcase.

Thats what I was afraid of and didnt want to hear. We dont have medium and heavy duty scantool capabilities. Thanks......I will let him know -
One of the salesmen at the shop just bought a 1999 International shortbus. His son races dirtbikes and he is going to use it as a hauler for his family and gear. His only complaint is that it has a speed limiter at around 60mph. Does anyone know how I can disable the limiter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1995 International Rollback 7.3L No Power
ablokzyl replied to ablokzyl's topic in General Diesel Engines
Well they let me work on it a little bit today.......I checked for power at pin 1 at the ecu.....it has 12v all the time. Cked for chafed wires at the battery. I dont see any problems with anything in the cooling system either. I cleared the codes and test drove it again. CHecked codes again and there were no active or history codes. I pulled the intake boot off the turbo to check for a dusted turbo. It looks a little bit iffy in my book but another guy in the shop doesnt think its anything to worry about......the guy who normaly drives it says that it started to misfire after he got fuel today. It also smokes like a bastard on startup but it starts great. It has over 165,000 miles on it.........Im wondering if the injectors arent going bad or if the engine isnt just plain tired......... -
1995 International Rollback 7.3L No Power
ablokzyl replied to ablokzyl's topic in General Diesel Engines
Thanks a lot guys, I am gonna try to work on it today if I can. This is our shops rollback and keeps getting pushed to the rear of the schedule. I will definatly try your ideas. I was looking for the ECT sensor yesterday to ck that but all I can find is the EOT sensor. Where is the ECT sensor located? Thanks guys -
Im working on a 1995 International rollback with a 7.3 liter with a lack of power. The truck model is a 4700 4x2. I pulled codes using the "engine check" button on the dash and got several three digit codes. 111, 113, 541, 221, 325 and 622 I have no access to International manuals and have no way of knowing what these codes mean. If anyone could help that would be great.........Thanks

Well after waiting several weeks for parts......they finally arrived. I installed a new map sensor and wastegate actuator. I took it down the road and it runs like a raped ape. Thanks guys for all the help. This would have been horrible to diag without the help. -

I dont have any reason to think that the intake air heater is staying on. I cannot find the map sensor. Could someone tell me where it is? Thanks -

ablokzyl replied to ablokzyl's topic in General Diesel Engines
I checked the wastegate actuator hose for cracks and there are none. I can blow directly through the actuator nipple itself. It hasnt blown any boost hoses off. I found a place on the net that has the code definitions. 433 is "Intake manifold pressure ckt" and 382 is "Intake air heater relay ckt". I found the reason behind the intake air heater ckt code.......there was a broken wire to one of the intake air heater relays. I repaired the wire and the code went away so that tells me that these are hardfault codes. I was trying to find the manifold pressure sensor, but the only sensor that i can find near anything that would have intake pressure is a three wire sensor at the back side of the intake manifold. It kinda looks like a coolant temp sensor to me though. And the turbo dosent have any play or fins are not hitting the housing. -

I think I might have found the problem. If I pull the hose off the wastegate, I can blow directly through it. Shouldn't the diaphragm inside the wastegate hold pressure? -

I held the "engine check" button on the dash and got flash code 433 and 382 -

No I dont have access to that software. All I have access to is Alldata and the normal Ford dealer tools. We are not a heavy truck shop. I am trying to do a buddy a favor by working on this for him.
