I don't really think I work for the wrong dealer
Aaron replied to Alex Bruene's topic in The Water Cooler
Oh let's see... Load lifting restriction of 5 LBS... I can't even lift my wiener to take a leak. I'm not supposed to pull tires, or anything strenuous like that... Brakes? HA. So I'm pretty much limited to electrical repairs, and any sort of diagnostic work, and that's really the limit of it. Apparently now I'm on the wait list for surgery. Life's good. -
Whatchu talkin bout willis, that's not un-usable. They'll jam a sleeve in it, new piston, straighten the rod up, good to go! Might even be able to re-use those rings if you put 'em between the pages of a heavy book for a couple of days to straighten 'em out.

Front axle dust seals
Aaron replied to dieseldoc's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
Most folks in this area are unaware that the hubs have an AUTO or LOCK position... they stay in whatever mode they are in when the truck gets delivered. Unless, for some reason, that happens to be "LOCK" and there's NVH issues, like you said. -
Looks to me like he forgot his pocket screwdriver in there, that's what caused all the commotion.

Morphine doesn't do a damn thing for me anymore, unfortunately. Jello wasn't desert, it was the main course
-
Fuck I wish I had some rice pudding... I think the best flavor of Jello so far has been purple. They sent my un-well, un-diagnosed ass home after pumping me full of drugs for a couple days. And I had to pay for the TV, too. $10/day, and they had that shit timed to the MINUTE. You bought 'er at 5:41PM? 5:39PM she'd start to go all blurry (no, it wasn't the drugs) and at 5:41, blackout. The scramble for the wallet to call in your CC number again so you could catch the end of whatever stupid mindless drivel you were watching would then commence. Next time I'll be sure to bring my laptop with me. I'm sure whatever was giving me grief ain't gonna get better on it's own.

Front axle dust seals

As an afterthought, if/when one of those seals ever comes dislodged from the axletube, it should make a delightful whirring/scraping noise if the truck is ever in 4x4. -

Installed using the mythical "SUITABLE DRIVER" I have a few construction vehicles I see tear the early style seals out in short order. Hopefully these will show a little more in the longevity department. I know a lot of guys just cut the offending pieces off and keep right back at 'er. I noticed on a 2011 truck today, they have the update-style seals in them already, and the recess in the axle tube looks a little deeper than on the 05-10 axle housing. -
I hope this is just an exaggeration for the sake of humor. Just how nonchalantly it was kinda thrown in at the end.... I was laughin' my ass off. MAINLY because it's not me workin' on it.

My buddy buys the rear axles out of those stupid fuckin' buses, DIRT cheap. I mean DIRT cheap. I can probably buy a complete axle from him (calipers and everything) cheaper than I could buy pinion bearings for one.

Evans Waterless Coolant

This has me scratching my head, however: -
Evans Waterless Coolant

Has a guy wondering how you'd get ALL the antifreeze/water out of the existing cooling system. The oil cooler design on the 6.0 and 6.4 is kind of prohibitive to draining all the coolant unless you take it out, or turn the truck upside down. -

On 07-up trucks, that is. -

Basic number is 1S175, and it is covered under powertrain warranty. And they do seem to hold up quite a bit better than the old style ones. -
Super Duty cab removal
Aaron replied to Kyle E. Grathwol's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Alex or Bruno had a pretty decent write up on it, I can't remember which one of them had actually emailed it to me. Don't forget the ground cable above the heater box, and at the second body mount on the passenger's side. Those in my opinion are the easiest two items to overlook during teardown. That and the power steering cooler/air deflector business and foglight harness. All easy stuff to overlook. -

I'm pretty sure it was never hosted here but there used to be a link for it over to flatratetech. Maybe that's where the confusion is coming from? -
Yep. That's why the injector rack comes such in handy!

However, my fingertips didn't get any smaller. Typing on a fuckin blackbery with my fat thumbs is a slow and tedious process. Argh. I can't wait to see my data usage this month.

It's free to fart in our emergency rooms, pal I've been admitted, I'm waiting to find out in the morning what the deal is. Great meal plan. So far, jello 3x, some beef barley "soup", ice cream, pudding... Oh its ever so delicious. I would do anything for some toasted white bread. Dry. <Insert Elwood Blues reference here> I currently weigh 214 lbs. I'm about 6'4 or so. I weighed 274 in October -- coupled with back injury, lack of appetite from meds, and now this, I keep losing weight. I can only hope the morning brings --solid food --pain relief --either a repair/being discharged.

Ontario, Canada here. They have the odd roadside inspection station but it's pretty infrequent. I used to see them more often when I lived towards London, but now it is to my understanding that a police officer can write a tamper ticket if he notices it during any kind of traffic stop or what have you. Also been told as of late that officers are being trained to perform roadside vehicle safety compliancer inspections, also.
-
Caught on roadside visual inspections. (Delete pipe, etc.)
-
There are guys getting ticketed for it here in Ontario, I think the fine is around $300 or so.
-
Coorrect.
-
Oh.... And where might a guy procure some service manuals for these machines? This is likely going to be an on-going venture, maintaining these trucks.
-
Precisely, Jim. And thanks Larry! I'll go have a peek at it tomorrow. It's a two-truck outfit I do preventative maintenance service stuff for. I noticed on my PM that the temp gauge was inop. Funny, I can punch the VIN into OASIS, and it brings up the "VIN UNRECOGNIZED" message, but tells me there's an open FSA on the truck for an air brake line re-route. Do we have access to heavy-truck manuals through InFord, somewhere?
