  1. Very cold snap here, 30 below for two days, i have two units that quit on road with these code p0087 and p2291. Fuel was gelling, added ford gel improver and vehicle were in shop all night , re fill with fresh fuel , clear code all ok this morning. High pressure pump pressure back to normal and low pressure ok. Could this have cause any damaged or should i look for any other things, note fuel filters also have been replaced.

Our diesel sales manager is ordering a 09 f550 cab and chasis SDtruck.He came to see me about a new option in 09 that is called ENGINE IDLE SHUTOFF for 200$.He wanted to know what it was because he could not find any info in his sales books.I started to search my self and could not find the answer, i don't know if it,s a new term. or what.It,s available on automatic vehicle only.It,s not an idle controller either.Anybody heard of this option, i just can,t find anything,Thank you.

  6. Had one truck towed in today, egr valve stuck open, tried to remove it no success.Tool would not pull it out, used air hammer and still jammed in there, ordered new housing also, all parts B.O.
  7. Just curious to know what can of parts discount you guys have at your dealer for your own vehicles?Here i get my parts cheaper at another dealer down the road. Trying to convince my boss on this issue at least for our own vehicle.Here we get 15% off list price which is close to trade price, Two of my buddies get cost plus 10% at there dealers.

I got a customer stopped in today and told me that when he first start his truck in morming there is a large bleuish smoke from tail pipe,it won,t last long and ok hot, been doing this for a month now.THis ia a 2001 7.3l f series.He will leave it next week.Possible injector leaking ??? Any advise would be appreciated.

Micheal, do you just lift it up enough to slide out the egr cooler, blow out dirt on each side of heads to prevent dirt from going into cylinders, also are you replacing the large fat frt o-ring to frt cover and what about f series are you removing intake or not?Thank you just looking for tips.
  10. Yes, i also use a headlamp bulb to actually put a load on the circuit, i was caught twice, once someone had installed a regular relay instead of a ficm relay (worked for a while), the other time the ficm terminal in pdb were amaged and melted(loose terminal).
  11. We've been seing more and more 6.0l come in with green coolant in system. Hotline told me once that green coolant should never be put in a 6.0l, I don,t remember everything he told me but boiling point affected?? , life duration, lubricity, components durabilty. I need more advice and knowledge to convince customer to flush there system and return to gold coolant. Thank you!

Have you checked the ficmmpwr pid cold, it should be 48 voltsand not drop below 47v, if it does go below 47v then load test all ficm pwr circuit, check your ficm relay. if all ok mostlikely ficm failure, i,m suprise you did not get a p0611 also but not always.Icp codes might have been set because of prolonged cranking and low battery , never understimate what customer could have done to get it started. Thanks David, we are now debating with our Ford rep the point that they do not allow us to open up the hp pump and inspect, there is no procedure in shop manual and if we open it up they are still going to refuse to pay, How are we suppose to know without any (csi) device, he actually agreed to that point.

  15. Thank you guys for your reply, very interesting point and we will re submit the claim. My point of view on this per customer, is that I understand Ford for not wanting to pay because of water contamination, but if the water in fuel light never works and this system is poorly design , how can the customer know if there is water in fuel system.How many customer comes in to your dealer with a 6.4l saying that the water in fuel light is on, personally i never had one, but several 6.0l until the reflash.

What is the most common cause for hp pump failure on these 6.4l,this one quit on road and had #2 injector stuck open and badly over fueled that cylinder, after replacing that injector it ran for about 40miles and started running very rough, 4 cylinder missing and barely running.checked secondary fuel bowl and found shinny metal particals,called hotline and advise me to replaced all fuel component due to hp pump failure.Replaced pump, injector ,lines, filters and so on, truck runs fine and on road for over a month.Now we have a charge back telling me it is cause by fuel contamination , they found evidents of rust in pump when they took it apart.I never inspected the pump internaly and no shop manual says so, customer had fuel filters replaced and no water in fuel light ever come on (does prove out). Any hints how to convince them. PS very interesting web site Keith keep on the good work. Sorry about my writing, i,m french(not my fault HA! HA!).
  17. Ive replaced my first one yesterday for black smoke on accel and black soot at tail pipe, no driveability concern at all, cured it.
