  1. Was told by an engineer that the new 6.7 could be upped in horse power if needed. He stated if GM comes out with a new diesel that has more horses than the 6.7 they can simply up horsepower and torque extensivly with programing without worry of problems due to the amount of testing they have done with this engine under higher power conditions.
  2. Our VCM bit the dust when IDS 66 was installed.Had to order a reman unit which is around 600 bucks through snap on with your old unit turned in as a core.New unit fired right up on 66.
  3. Found issue and vehicle is under repair.Low pressure pump was eat up.Looked like half a wire circlip went through it from the impression it left in pump gear.Could not figure out where clip came from until I thought about it for a while.HPOP fitting blew apart and half of the circlip inside the fitting got sucked into oil pump.
  4. I pulled it again when it wouldn't start after I cleaned it, and it seemed ok.Thanks.
  5. I have a 6.0l that is not making base oil pressure.I checked the regulator and it had a ton load of tension when i took it out so i assumed it had stuck open.I cleaned it up and cleaned the bore and it went back in normal but it still does not pump any oil to filter housing as if it isn't priming.Any ideas before I go deeper?
  6. Talked to one of the instructors at our training facility in Charlotte N.C. and he said the first truck they were sent was for sale in the asian market and didn't have any of the emission devices in the exhaust from the downpipe back. They called higher ups and ask how they were supposed to teach the course with a truck that didn't have all the devices.Had to send it back and wait for US build.
  7. Got hit for not writing that i used VC-9 when I flushed system after EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler replacement. The bad thing was our parts guy was out sick and he always checks over the ticket before it is closed to make sure all parts were billed. If it would have been billed we would have had more chance of an appeal. It was mostly my fault because I went behind the counter and got the VC-9 because I got tired of waiting on other parts helper who was overcome with customers that day.Just shows what happens when you are in a hurry and don't follow policy everybody loses. Our charge back was around $250.
  8. The reason I ask this question is this particular truck has a black fluid trail from the manifold but when I pulled egr valve it was almost clogged on top side of egr valve but I see no signs of water in the intake and the buildup on the valve is very dry and almost hard to the touch.I performed a vacuum test at the degas bottle and it held 15in of vacuum for 20 minutes or so.I noticed that the blower wheel side of turbo blue hose is completely covered in wet oil and dust as if oil has been leaking or blowing out of it.It came in late friday and I havent had a chance to get really in depth on it yet.
  9. I wonder if under heavy load with fan at high duty cycle it could affect airflow to an open design k&n filter that would affect an early model that depends on mass air flow readings.
  10. I have seen this a couple of times and would like some input on this issue.Customer comes in for oil leak and their is quite a bit of oil on transmission housing especially RH side.Check all areas prone to cause this type of leak and none are wet.Clean off oiled areas and pour in some dye.Didn't have time to do alot of road testing so return to customer and tell him to drop back by in a day or two and we will check again.Comes back and oil is back on trans housing but it has no dye in it.After looking second time see fluid coming from RH exhuast manifold #7 cylinder.Come to conclusion after pulling egr valve egr cooler is leaking and undoubtably mixing with soot causing a substance that looks like oil and draining down to exhuast manifold. My question is has anyone ever seen oil comming out of exhuast manifold instead of coolant from possible turbo issue or other concern.
  11. Hey like Ford says Fix it Right the First Time.Or in some cases the Fifth time.
  12. One that I don't see is in some situations yes you do need to use a torque wrench.Especially transmission work.I have seen guys who thought they had a built in torque wrench in their arm.The only problem was it only had 2 settings to loose or to tight.
  13. I wonder if the enhanced programing includes elevated torque and hp rating? If so I wonder what it is?
  14. Had one do the very same thing. It would run with cam sensor unpluged. The pin in back of phaser had wobbled back and forth in cam slot till slot was twice as big and pin sideways in slot.
  15. What about all the shops that have 1 or 2 trained guys and 5 to 6 techs total that are using those 2 cert.techs number on ro's being done by other techs that arent certified (mostly brakes and other gravy warranty) and have no intrest in being certified as long as this continues. But let a warranty job that looks like an ass raper come in and they are the first to say im not certified to do that.I know its against warranty policy but its happening.
  16. I have been told the information this tool can extract is phenomenal.Midtronics says they can even tell if it is a motorcraft battery or another brand. But I have used other batteries in the past with the micro-490 that were never questioned.
  17. I have been told the duramax and dodge cummins on the new proline hardware is as good as the factory scan tools.
  18. When my warranty administrator came to me about this 2 weeks ago he said Ford denied the first 3 battery claims we have done on the new rorunda gr-190.He said the only thing Ford would tell him is that the codes were invalid and we probably needed to update the firmware in it.He told them we just purchased it less than a month ago because you (ford) said we had to have it to get battery claims paid because the micro 490 is not acceptable for level #2 dealer claims and now you are still going to deny the claims because your machine spit out invalid codes. So I called midtronics and the guy ask for one of the codes we sent Ford and imeadiatly knew what the problem was.He said Ford should be able to tell that you did these claims correctly even though you left the 0 out of the ro number. He calculated the correct codes for aces and dtc in less than 20 seconds on a piece of paper just by adding 0 in front of ro number and said Ford could do the same thing just as easy to verify you did do them correctly. Our warranty administrator said he ask the claims dept. repeat times if they knew what would could cause our machine to spit out wrong codes and they said they had no clue that maybe our machine needed updated.Surely they had run into this before. When we received the gr-190 from rotunda the paper inside said they had already programed it with our information and it was ready to use.Never the less we are eating these claims after already getting a $1400.00 ream job buying this thing.
  19. Heres one of the best we have run across and it happened this week.Ford would not pay 3 battery claims because we just bought a new g-190 battery tester/charger and we used 5 digit ro numbers when generating aces/dtc codes but it requires 6 digit format ro numbers to generate the correct numbers they want.In other words we have to put a 0 in front of our ro number when entering it in to the machine. When we appealed the denied claims Ford said you can't appeal a claim unless it has been denied. So we said that is what we are doing is appealing the 3 claims you denied to pay.Ford says we didn't deny those claims we just paid them at 0 dollars so they can't be appealed because they werent denied.WTF kind of shady shit is that.Is paying a claim at 0 dollars really different then denying it.NO.
  20. I just purchased the autoenginuity scan tool due to the upgrade they did january 18 2010 with the new proline connecter.I have talked with them quite a bit and they have told me they will be releasing power balance in about 6 weeks.I hope that it happens. It will also do pats key programming and an amazing amount of self tests such as air bag, antilock brakes, instument cluster, tire pressure sensor, stability system, air ride suspension, climate control,4x4 system, and many others.I compared it to the IDS on several vehicles and it found all the same codes in every area including u codes every time.Lots of new bidirectional controls which alow you to control solenoids such as ipr and egr.I really was amazed at how close the new version comes to oem manufacture scan tool quality.Release 8.1 is out but has a couple of bugs. They have given me release 8.2 to experiment with which has not been released yet but fixes most of the bugs.It has alot of 6.0l and 6.4l stuff now but was told they were getting ready to release a bunch more on powerstroke diesels in a few weeks.
  21. I commend Toyota for their unwavering help in bailing out the US automotive industry. They have done more in 2 weeks than Obama, the entire US congress' and 700+ billion dollars ever thought of achieving.Who would have thought it could be this easy to restore faith in the domestic auto industry. This fuck up even makes the 6.0l powerstroke diesel look appealing.I would rather my 6.0l powerstroke be in the shop than me and my Toyota at the bottom of a canyon.
  22. Just performed my first FICM repair per the instructions given recently.I had an FICM I had kept off a truck that would not start due to failure. It would not buzz injectors when key was turned.Customer bought a FICM from junk yard an ask if we would install it and program it.The truck started fine and has not been back.I kept his old FICM since there was no core return. What I found during the soldier repair was two of the small rectangular resistors were loose. After repair I tried it on a truck in the shop and it worked like a charm.
  23. That is one awesome 4x4.Why are they not using this design in rock crawling competitions or in the military?I want one but I know I can't afford it.
  24. Sep 8, 2009: Diesel Cam Timing available on IDS release 63 A new oscilloscope tool, 'Diesel Cam Timing', is available on IDS release 63. This tool monitors the CKP and CMP signals of 6.0L diesel engines while cranking and provides help and instructions to verify proper base engine timing and sensor signal integrity. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Is this what you guys use when checking the signal of the sensors?I saw this on a tsb a while back but have never used it.
  25. I had a customer that was a real demanding asshole. This was during the time we had to have prior approval on egr coolers. The truck had a programmer and exhuast mods.Under modifications I put Banks Six Gun and Performance exhuast knowing they would deny the repair.10 minutes later I got an answer back of Approved for egr cooler replacement.I contacted hotline and asked why just to cover my ass and was told unless it was head gaskets with no egr cooler failure or catastrophic engine failure they were not denying the claims. They said it cost more in legal fees to prove the programmer caused the failure then it was worth.
