BG diesel inj. flush
sixturbosix replied to mtuttle43's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
This may sound crazy but when I in 6.4l class a few months ago there were some techs from Florida telling the instructor that they were taking the air filter element out but leaving the side with the air restriction guage back to the turbo on.They had cut a board with a smaller hole in it and place it against the housing and were spraying the Motocraft carb cleaner in the can (has kind of a foammy oil look to it when sprayed)through slowly.Smaller hole in board is suppose to keep it from running away or reving high.Said two cans clean the hell out of the egr and intake system.Has anyone else heard of this I am affraid to try. -
I agree, the price of these VCM's are tempting to all of us but if they are getting around subscription process somehow it won't be long before they are blocked by Ford through a new software update to the update process itself. If anyone remembers the days of hacking Direct TV maybe they will black sunday all the counterfiet VCM's.

I emailed one of the sellers on ebay to see what info he would give on the VCM he sold.I choose him because he had 100% feed back and also the npictures of the VCM and cables were in bags with rotunda part numbers on them exactly like the ones you recieve from Ford when you order them.I think his price was $900.00 us dollars. His response was.... Hello, together with VCM device you will get DVD with IDS software and calibration files. IDS updates itself periodically from the internet, no additional license purchase is required. So the adapters will work on the OTC stand?
-
Thanks for the response Keith.Training gave us a paper that says the OTC will not adapt to the 6.4l.The sheet lists a stand made by Norco I believe, that will fit the 6.0l and the 6.4l both.It is also cheaper than the OTC.Have you had to use an engine stand for the 6.4l at all yet?
-
We have an rotunda/otc o14-00106 engine stand but from what I was told in training class this stand will not work with the 6.4l engine. Is this a fact and does anyone know if adapters are available for 6.4l.If this should have been listed under tool section I apologize.Any info appreciated.

I meant to mention this is on 7.3l that he does this.I don't know about 6.0l.

One of our techs started using a round cylinder that the tap will slip through. He then screws the tap in the cup and screws a threaded rod in the end of the tap.He then uses a washer and a nut and pulls it out just like the tool for removing 5.4l spark plug ends that break of in the heads of new style f150's.

Can't explain it but had a 97 f250 yesterday that had multiple misfires in it with no codes. All pids show no problems and I checked all sensor connections including cps.Was getting ready to dig deeper on this truck and saw guys on another forum complaining of misfire after gray sensor replacement so I asked owner when he had his replaced under recall and he said he just had it replaced while at a job site out of town so I decided just for kicks to put another gray sensor in it and oddly enough it fixed it and it ran flawlessly.Put other gray sensor back in and miss returned.Sensor had no signs of defect but I can say that a new gray sensor did fix problem.Glad I tried it before digging deeper.Maybe there is a problem with some of these sensors. -
The utility company which is Blue Ridge Energy of N.C. went and ordered all new Dodges several weeks ago when they discovered this problem and canceled orders on new Fords. They are looking for trucks they can work on themselves after warranty and choose Dodge after looking at all manufacturers and problem history. The 6.0l has put quite a bad taste in thier mouth and when they discovered this issue they said enough is enough.

This question was asked by our local utilities company in this area. What do you do with the boom on the truck if you have to raise the cab to do most all engine work on a 6.4l.We have above ground lifts and can't swing it to the side and our shop has a divider in the center so we would have to hang it out behind the truck. We would than not be able to shut the shop door at night.Maybe i'm overlooking something but I can't think of any other way.

You might want to wake up captchas because a 7.60- 8.00 in an 1/8 mile calculates to an aprox 11 sec 1/4 mile.

frozen rear bolton 6.0 turbo
sixturbosix replied to jt-morgan's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Our local power co.dropped off a 2003 f450 bucket truck yesterday at our dealer.I work on quite a few of there trucks still under warranty. This is their first one out of warranty. They were in the process of trying to remove the turbo themselves. They stripped the head on the rear bolt.I can't get it out with one of the socket type removers. Is this the year model with the bolt that can be broken with a prybar or is it the later style with the bolt that goes straight down. The guy that worked on it at their garage said he didnt think he was ready to work on any 6.0l's and he hoped that was the last problem he had out of their fleet of trucks with 6.0l's.I wanted to laugh so hard but I bit my toungue and said you will probably win the lottery before you have a problem out of another one of these trucks. He has only worked there 2 weeks.Ha Ha -
In earlier post on this same topic.FordTechCA says he switches between IDS and PDS using the same VCM. Topic name under this category is PDS & VCM.In other words can I use our shops VCM and only buy remaining items needed, such as pocket pc,cable kit and software.
-
Our shop has recently bought a VCM in preperations for the new IDS.My question is what do I need to buy in order to get up and running with a PDS.I called Rotunda and got confusing answers about what was needed. The guy I talked to said I could not use the same VCM we purchased for the IDS.He also said I would have to get a cable kit, pocket pc,and buy an activation key for the pds software. Is this correct because he didn't sound like he had much knowledge on the subject.I am looking for some straight answers on this subject if anyone can help.Maybe a detailed list on what to purchase.

New Battery Tester

We also use the micro490 to generate dtc and aces codes and not had any warranty rejected when written up correctly on RO. -
Sorry I wanted to thank you guys for your response but I had some phone line issues that were knocking me off the internet I had to resolve. The customer has not returned with his truck but I was curious if a bad dual mass flywheel could be attributing to this violent shake.I noticed the truck was hard to get in and out of gear when moving around the lot to my bay.Thanx again for your replies.

had a 1995 7.3l with 70,000 miles in the shop with codes p1275,p1277,p1294, p0198.Complaint was no cold start below 50 degrees without being plugged in.When vehicle does start it sounds like it is missing on a couple cylinders for aprox. 5 to 7 seconds and clears up.Customer says truck was run low on oil and quit on the road after he first purchased it used.Truck refired after oil was added.Did all visual test with fuel and oil.Tested glow plug harness connectors all banks even removed valve covers and inspected. ran injector buzz test no problem .Replaced 5&7 uvc harness scince codes were based on that bank.Glow plugs check good and glow plug solenoid checked good.Checked wires from injector harness through 42-way to idm good.WDS would not bring up icp pid in datalogger so icp has not been checked yet.Customer needed truck and is going to bring back and leave truck for more diag. How is the best way to check icp without wds.P0198 code has not come back yet but the others have.Is this maybee an idm or injector problem.Any input appreciated before I get this truck back next week.Thanx.

Extension tip on 5.4 3v spark plug
sixturbosix replied to sixturbosix's topic in All Gasoline Engines
Finally got it out the next day with a can of air intake cleaner to desolve carbon around it and a self modified easy out that one of our other techs bought at a yard sale. When Ford saw that we didn't have to take the head off they called desperate to find out how we got it out.The other tech told him it was a tool he bought for 20 cent at a yard sale and he would gladly trade it to them for a PDS diagnostic kit with VCM scince it would save them that much money on warranty claims. They turned him down laughing. -
I have enjoyed usihg this site.Anyone ever used it? 6.0 liter bible

Anyone had any extention tips stay in the head when you take out a plug.Ford engineeer told me they were aware of problem and for time being they will pay the dealer under warranty to do a BG or simillar decarbon service before taking out these plugs even if you only take out one. Finally got it out with large easy out.Carbon builds up around it and it almost knurls itself in.Hotline told me to pull the head off under warranty to get it out.I knew there had to be a way around that.

I was at the local dragstrip in my area this week for test and tune night.4dr crewcab dually and a 4dr crew cab single rear wheel duramax were laying the smack down on guys in 03-04 supercharged cobras,04-05 corvettes, and some 600cc street bikes.Ford went 7.69 and duramax went 8.01 in 1/8 mile.Blew my mind still can't get it out of my head.It opened my eyes to the potential of these new generation diesels. The engines don't sound like they are working as hard as a gas engine to achieve these times but i'm sure that it puts alot of pressure on headgaskets and things.Just amazing.

how about tsb 05-13-04.Just ran across this my not be what you are looking for but contains these two codes.

I,m still in the process of learning ford diesels but I have been able to work on them without being certified as of yet.(getting closer).Because we are a new dealer and had an eight month waiver that allowed me to work on them.I so far have been able to fix all the ones they have taken in.But I have done a great deal of studying for the last eight months (Lots of valuble info from this site)I used to go to flatrate tech site alot until the tech to tech turned into a tech against ford forum. No tech fixs are posted on there anymore just complaints against ford and their procedures. We can fuse all we want but all of us ford techs in the world can,t make a multi billion dollar co. like ford do anything until all the high payed ceo,s and suits stop being greedy and all for them selves. This is present in most all major corporations(greed). But what I can do scince I have choose to be a ford tech is show my community that I am the best and the respect you can recieve from being the best is as powerful as money to me and once you earn that respect the money will follow.A service manager from a nearby dealer told me I was crazy for studying at home and he wound think it was crazy if one of his techs studied at home.My reply to him was "I'll remember that when your guys are calling me for answers one of these days."Enough small talk and by the way ford sent my dealer a letter last week saying the new diesel certified mechanic we hired has to do all the work now scince our 8 Months is up or we risk warranty audit. But anyway I had an 05 that was droping boost and it was not all the sudden. It was gradully pushing the blue tank seal out from around the intercooler slowly and you couldn't see it for those rubber radiator baffles.I found it by holding brake pressure and boosting truck while someone listened for air outside the truck.I hope to keep learning from this site in the future.Thanx
