Thanks for the input on this subject.Last two companies we have dealt with have said they only pay 6.7 hrs. on egr cooler replacement. That includes 1hr for diag they give you. They say that is what All Data shows as time.I know Mitchell shows 5.3hr warranty and 8.1 customer pay. They said the customer is responsible for any additional. We have been charging the additional to the customer.I really hate to see customers have to pay for something the warranty company owes them.

I hate generic extended warranty companys. When I say this I refer to warranty other than a mfr warranty.Lately I see they are only wanting to pay warranty times instead of customer pay times in Mitchell or All Data.I thought they payed customer pay times always.I would like some insight on other opinions about this subject.I'm tired of getting screwed.

Hydraulic clutch problems, HELP!!!
sixturbosix replied to dieseldoc's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
Vacuum bleed with hand operated vacuum pump. They usually have a little hole on top of cap.I use a basketball inflator to stick in hole.Don't fill resevoir to high when bleeding or it will suck fluid into pump.Apply vacuum and work pedal a few times then release vacuum.Do this 2 or 3 times and it's bleed.About 5 to 10 minutes of work and you are done. -
Had to work till 2:00 today and will be back for half a day on Sat.Automotive work sucks when it comes to number of days off and paid holidays per year.Wife has state job and gets more paid holidays in one year than I get in a decade. She had the nerve to tell me I needed to be more quiet when I get ready for work on her days off because she is trying to sleep.Gave me a reason to dump the clutch at about 6 grand as I left our carport.

Put a 6.4l engine in due to hydrolock, bent rod, split cylinder from top to bottom.Customer stated that truck had been smoking like a freight train for quit a while but was told by another dealer it was just due to regen and not to be alarmed.Oil was half inch thick on turbo inlet bellow.Hotline said be sure and put a new DPF on this vehicle before release to customer.Claim was held for review due to DPF replace.Do these guys not communicate at all with each other or are all claims fowarded to the nearest nut house and slid through a mail slot to be signed off on.Claims dept said it was unusual to see DPF replaced during this type of failure.Well gee wiz dick tracy maybe you should tell that to the motherfuckers that your company hired and trained to tell us what to do.

6.0 noise under high pressure pump cover
sixturbosix replied to kevin phillips's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I agree, just had one and it sounded like a broken flex plate. It was in for hard start.STC fitting was very loose and worn.It did it mostly after it was hot and had been driven a long distance. After STC replacment it went away.Must create some type of pulsation at the fitting that causes this. -
I openend up a known bad ficm that had low voltage concerns about 2 weeks ago when I saw this article on another forum. It was not hard at all to get the boards out and find the soilder joints in question. Some of the screws are under the hardning gel type substance that are on the boards but I used a hobby knife to cut through it.I did not resoilder the joints but I did look at them with a good magnifying glass and could not see any bad soilder joints.I may go back in and try it if I get a truck that is under warranty for a ficm concern.I still have the bad ficm on my toolbox. It would be easy to take back apart.

Seen alot of guys tighten down 6.0l intakes with air ratchets. To me this seems to be a no brainer.Or how about 6.0l injectors run down with air ratchets.Alot of times they aren't tight enough and couple months later combustion in fuel system no copper washer to be found.

Whats the best thing you did with a cash for clunker? What engine or vehicle withstood the most abuse? The way we like to stress test our clunkers is drain oil pour in 2 to 3 quarts of the government additive stick a hood prop rod on the gas pedal and turn the key, works best when not equipped with rev limiter.Seen some inline six jeeps keep running after they threw multiple rods through the block.Going straight to full throttle with no idle time produced some long run times of up to several minutes.Great stress relief if your having a bad day. Also got enough gas out of them to last me for weeks.Great program.

I think about the situations described in this thread all the time.I often wander if techs were not on flatrate and paid a good salary would they do a better job repairing vehicles or would they just fuck off and pull a pay check.Or,if the labor times were better on warranty or cp would a flatrate tech take his time and do a better more thorouh job.The answer I see is the lazy greedy techs will always hack and claim more time than they should no matter how they are paid and the respectable hard working techs will go the extra mile to make sure a customer is happy even if they are losing money on a job. What it all boils down to for me is RESPECT because without this you are nothing and these guys will never know what it feels like to have a customer come in and say.I heard you are the best around and I would like for you to work on my car.

torqshift failure
sixturbosix replied to sixturbosix's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
You guys were right.Service writer wrote ticket up wrong.Rechecked and found out this was an 05 model 9/2004 build date.Customer had an aftermarket extended warranty that we had never heard of before. My first thoughts after I saw the coverage details were wrong. They approved a Ford reman tranny after we faxed up service records to them.Didn't even send out an inspector.Matter of fact they said we miscalculated the labor and added a 1/2 hr. -

6.0L Aftermarket EGR Cooler
sixturbosix replied to mchan68's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have noticed that these egr coolers are made more like the early round style. From what I have seen the round egr coolers have alot less failure.Correct me if i'm wrong because I have never cut one open i am just looking at them from the y-pipe end..Wonder why they went away from this type build. -
I have always experienced that if vgt learn is not completed they have more of a tendacy to act up.There are some criteria that must be met to alow vgt learn other than just engine temp though.I had one a while back that would not achieve vgt learn and it had a hole in map sensor hose right at bottom.

Is anyone else seeing problems with later model torqshift spiting out snap ring at reverse planetary.Got one today and after teardown found snap ring at reverse planetary spit out.Had a hole in case and 2 stress cracks.Seems like we have seen this before on earlier models (04b24 recall).
-
Did I hear you say that torqshift cases are on backorder because I need to order one tomorrow for an 06 f350 that split the case right about where the reverse planetary is and it is customer pay.

Scorpion or Power Stroke?
sixturbosix replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have heard alot of guys out here with 6.0l trucks say that they are still planning on buying Ford superduty trucks even though there 6.0l truck gave lots of problems. They have not lost faith in Ford they have lost faith in all mfr's diesels and blame the the EPA for the decreased reliability in light duty diesel engines. -
If they don't slow down on how many diesels they are taking in a week we will be hiring real soon.I don't mind them taking in a large amount of work just don't promise every customer they will have there vehicle back next day when you know it ain't gonna happen because they will expect it and then I have to explain to the service writer for the 1,000th time "I didn't promise it you did."

99 7.3 HP oil problems
sixturbosix replied to PowerSToKed's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Have you looked to see if the check ball is clean and seating correctly in bottom of resevoir.Seems like some issues you might look for is oil draining through injectors.Low pressure pump issues. -
I talked to our warranty clerk today and he advised me that he has a friend that works for a company that contracts out to help dealerships with submitting Ford warranty claims. They had told him it was a must if you get audited and helps tremendously when fighting a claim denial.
-
I always fill them out on all warranty claims and attach them to the RO.My warranty clerk insists on them heavily and this is why I was wondering if it was a must. Thanks
-
I was curious if most techs fill out there diesel diag sheets when they do warranty repairs and if not how do you claim your diagnostic times.

This may be hard to believe but at our small dealership the owner is also the service manager. He believes in working just like the rest of us and acts like a friend instead of dictator. He has gone through everyone of our service tools individually and entered them into a software program on his computer. He can tell you the exact location of old Ford Courier tools we have if you asked for them. This really helps save time.So if there are any numbers you can give me I can find out if we received them. Thanks
