  1. Asked Santa for a twin post lift, Guess I was bad this year. 51 years old and feeling every minute. Getting too old for this crap!
  2. Mr. Bruene, Yes removed case, It's impossible to do without it. Good tip, Mbl, Remove mount and jack tail of trans. to rotate back of engine up and forward to get left rear bottom. Still on teardown side. I will talk to owner about the benefits of studs over bolts. I agree they are superior.
  3. Mr. Saunoras, Is it possible to use studs with cab on? Don't see how it's possible to get rear ones on right side. Pull master and hydroboost on left may be possible. I have no way to lift cabs in this shop. Stuck doing things the old fashion way. Climb all over this stinking thing. Rust and all. This is the worst Super Duty I have seen.
  4. Sorry missed it. Flat rate reading this morning. Also flat rate eating at the time. Looks like big ticket then.
  5. Out of curiosity what are Customer Pay labor hours for the "Tri-Fecta" repair. As Mr. Clayton calls it. Head gaskets, Egr and Oil Coolers. I have one that's fighting me the whole way!
  6. Sounds like heater core may be restricted I agree. Watch for debris & flow when you backflush. I did head gaskets last month on my personal truck for same problem. [06 F350] Fixed it. It was building excess pressure in degas bottle after a running under boost. No combustion gas was detected at idle doing block test. It also had a coolant usage issue 1/2 gallon a month.
  7. Boy that is a real headbeater, Hope they pay time invested on that one! I had one years ago. The first three V-8 Mark 7 LSC's came off the truck with 6cyl distributers in them. V-8 caps and wires. Ran like shit, No codes, Finally noticed 6 points on reluctor after countless tests and about 12 hrs. Sent a field engineer to inspect cars. I got straight time.
  8. Moderator, Please move this if it in wrong area. It is related to my inexperiance using a computer! I need some help posting pictures of a wiring harness I found chasing a Quits While Driving problem on a Super Duty, It wants Http and pictures are saved in my pictures. I guess I must sign up with photobucket? Also, non left right center floating?? HELP!
  9. Is there another alternative to factory converter? Dealer wants 1250.00 our cost. Thought his wife was going to have to dig him a grave when I gave him the price! Has anyone tried Dynamax? It is illegal here for us to eliminate it.
  10. Had an interesting one last couple of days. Local grave digger and headstone man brought his truck in. 06 F350 4x4 Dually 59K miles. Complained of no power. Scanned it P2262 No Boost. Road tested excellent power, 3 trips up mountian no problem no codes, A little background, Local dealer did turbo less than a year ago after catastrophic failure, oil changes and fuel filters every 5k. Bone stock. Scanned PIDS all normal. Let it sit overnight while finishing anoter job. Next morning; No power set code when it closed loop. Started up mountian 50 mph pedal on floor took snapshot ICP v3.1, IPR %50, Trim -.02, MFDES 41, MGP Psi 4, Load 64%, EBP 32, EBP v2.66. If you want any others just ask. These are the ones I remember. Got it back to shop max rpm was 3000. Tested fuel pressure 53. Tapped on converter no rattle, OK Dropped exaust behind cat found gray powder in pipe. Started engine and looked into converter side, Catalist had broken loose and rounded itself just enough to be able to spin like a disco ball. Shut it off and restart it would spin 1/4 turn power is back. Ever seen one do that? Happy Holidays, Mike
  11. They are back on E Pay, electrodiesel is seller. 140.00 for socket and kit of 8 O-rings. Just search 6.0 Tools.
  12. Just for information: The short plastic fuel lines between spider and outside intake are known for splitting inside lower intake. This fills cylinders on left side of engine. Just left GM Dealer, Have seen it several times. Customers replace spiders and still have same symptoms.
  13. Are bolts broken off flush with block? If so I have held proper size nut over broken bolt and put a tack inside it with a mig. [i usually use 3/8 This gives you more room inside to weld] This welds nut to broken bolt. Then just carefully turn it out. Works most of the time. Although it requires teardown again. Only way I can think of repairing it properly. Good luck!
  14. Bruce, Thanks for the illustration. I have enough pieces around to make this easily. I will be contacting you for training material soon. 33 year Master Tech. 7 years with Ford/Linc. Merc. Dealers 79 to 85. Only doing diesel for about 1 year. It's a whole different world. This site has been a huge help. Lots of great people here!! Merry Christmas To Everyone, & Happy New Year
  15. Yes TDC Was verified. I am sure there is no pressure on rockers holding valve open. And yes there is popping through exaust louder at idle. Everytime that cylinder fires. Guess I will look into a gauge through tool dealer. We are an independent truck shop so any special tools come out of my pocket and into my tool box. Customer has denied teardown says it is going to scrapper. Happy Holidays!
  16. Out of luck, Can't see much with scope. Piston is washed clean with raw fuel. I have read here crank case pressure gauge is easily made. Use old fuel pump test gauge? Block off vent and oil fill, Check pressure through dipstick tube? What is maximum pressure allowed? I have seen it discussed here but thread search didn't come up with anything. Will test still be accurate with bad head? Thanks in advance; Mike
  17. Ran compression test on left side, #6 105 PSI, Rest 350-375. Put shop air to cylinder and got enough air from exaust side to spin turbo. But no autible pressure from crank case. Definately exaust valve. Santa came early here. Going to try out new bore scope through glow plug hole and get a look at cylinder bore. I agree Mr. Browning I will reassemble enough to do test if bore is not toast.
  18. lmorris, What is stream train effect? And how do you check for it? Thanks in advance, Mike
  19. Hey guys, Had some time to get a little deeper into this, Does programer alter MAP readings? This truck is stuck on 19 all the time. Switched sensors with same results. Also has anyone seen a scanner cause engine to stall when you change screens? Truck has edge tuner. As example, If you change from drivability to turbo it will stall. Using solus scanner. Never had one do that before! All readings are constant until engine starts to stall. Just like key is off. SYNC yes, FICM readings are constant and OK. Sets cam and crank codes also. Only does it with scanner plugged in. Another thing Fuel Pressure at WOT drops to 45. Too Low?
  20. Truck is late 2003 6.0. 134K miles. Dead miss #6, Blows smoke rings from oil fill tube, Blue smoke from tail pipe at idle. Has very little contribution from #6. Also has #8 misses. Codes as follows, P0278 #6, P0603 Due to programer, P0132B Turbo Boost Control A, Found small exaust leak before turbo. It is sluggish off the line. Question is: What should compression be?? Running test this morning. Also has weird hiss from top of engine. It comes and goes in cycles like every minute or so it is more noticeable. Sounds like maybe intake valve issue? I am going to pull valve cover and look for high pressure leaks also. Oil is not overfull. Also has 5" exaust and K&N Filter {Very Dirty}. Looks like teardown time.
  21. Thanks for all the input. Have been out for a few days with flu. Found mail box on truck when I returned yesterday. Mr Clayton, I did quick crankcase pressure test and found very little blow by so I determined engine as a whole is sound. Got it running this morning. It is almost normal. Power is excellent runs a little rough cold. That will I think work out after a mountian run or two. Recomended other injectors and watch for FICM codes. I have not been able to duplicate a problem with FICM hot or cold. Before or after repairs. Has anyone tried a oil system cleaner in these engines? I am leary about this but it was suggested by another "Tech".
  22. Just did an 06 with no heat at idle, It was head gaskets. And cracked right head. I have not yet seen one with no heat running and a head gasket concern. Heater core plugged up? I have seen several with this problem but usually 1 hose is hot and one cool. Operating temp. is low though.
  23. Does anyone know if there a difference in Chassis and Cab engines? Or it may be how they are used. [Long idle times?] I am looking at a leftover F450 up here. Don't want it if there is trouble lurking! Already had that with my 6.0.
  24. Torn down already, No signs of combustion in injector bores. Just oil that looks like molasses in winter. It is getting 4 injectors, New turbo [old one is beyond repair] along with Vane Accuator, EGR cooler, Oil cooler, [high pressure screen was plugged solid torn and a corner of screen is still missing] But we all know where it went!, Air to Air cleaned, [drained a pint of oil out of it] Intake hot tanked, ACT sensor, As well as complete service. No FICM yet or other 4 injectors, That is as far as the owner will go. He wants to see how it runs first. This by far the worst case of neglect I have seen in a long time.
  25. Moderator, If this is the wrong place please move it. I am looking for advanced training on Ford Powerstroke engines. Mainly 6.0 now because that is mostly what I see day to day. Are there any quality classes in Wv. Va. Pa. Oh. area? I am working in a smaller truck shop with limited referance material. This site has been a huge help but more is needed. PM me if needed. Thanks in advance, Mike
