  1. Our dealership has a great reputation for its work but you still get those people you hear online or at home or even customers at work that for some reason have that stereotype for us. My dealership has both Toyota and Lincoln endorsements..yes odd I know but it makes for good conversation. And Matt yes im young, and an asset student but am firmly planted into my dealership I love what I do and who I work with and have no doubts about finishing the last year of my training. I grew up in my family owned mechanics shop and used car dealership..we made great money but we also were right before the "big boom" of advancements when we closed down due to cancer in family. I remember doing things at our shop we would never consider doing at my shop. I feel comfortable with most jobs big and small and the amount of training and education at your fingertips is unbelievable with Ford and at ASSET training..I just cannot see how your joe blow shop has the nerve to challenge our abilities when they themselves have had no formal training and probably couldnt explain a wiring diagram and how it worked if their life depended on it.
  2. I recently have been in more arguments typically with ignorant people who know nothing about cars but claim that dealer technicians are idiots and that if they were so good they would have their own shop..again makes no sense. Another argument was mis diagnosis...stereo-types of young clowns...i hear this everywhere I go yet im always the buddy fixing other mechanic friends cars when they cant fix them..where does this stereo type come from and why is it that we get all the shops around towns work when they cant figure it out if we are so terrible?
  3. I agree on the 5.4 3v's they seem to really be causing issues..how do you explain to a customer that there knock at 800-1000rpms is normal and no cause for concern..and you cant even change your plugs as a person off the street cause 5 times out of 10 youll need your extractor..and vct solenoids and phasers out the wazoo.
  4. You have a bad PCM ...becoming pretty common these days..if youve replaced coil and plug and circuitry has no issues...then you have a bad driver in the PCM
  5. Wouldn't have thought that question took much thought and im an asset apprentice also, what had you stumped?
  6. I cant yank the chip it runs the stage 2 injectors..you pull it and the truck wont even run. But anyways I can run it on IDS if I bring it home from work one day I know how to identify which cylinder is misfiring but the air hissing doesnt make sense. I have already ran compression test multiple times before installing injectors and cant swap injectors cause they wouldnt be same as one another at all. Stock early 99 injectors are 120cc these are 175cc and these injectors are single shot, originals are split shot. May have screwed up by hot rodding my truck but the single shot is suppose to use way less high pressure oil, get better fuel mileage and pull better with lower egt's.....Im going to pull injectors and make sure I dont have a cracked nozzle or a copper washer didnt fall off. All I can think of at this time or even broken oil ring.
  7. Jim, my truck does have a chip in back of pcm but it is done right and it is to run the stage 2 single shot injectors I installed. They have 5 year 200,000 mile warranty and cost half what ford remans do. Fordracer I havent check the up pipes yet I need to do that I have considered one of new injectors having a problem or me breaking an o-ring during installation.
  8. Its not the EBPV its engine related and is engine speed...it sounds like air passing so i took valve covers off and ran it that way and still couldnt pin point it...not real sure whats going on and ebpv wouldnt cost the rough idle and smoke
  9. I am a ford asset technician one year in, been learning alot and have my own 7.3 I picked up as a project. It needed injectors so I just got the injectors installed. The truck now cold starts fine and runs "better" but has a miss and makes a "hissing" sound we cannot locate sounds like from motor...injectors are brand new so is IDM batteries and starter...the turbo is shot im rebuilding another one as we speak but I cannot figure out the HISS it also is sending white smoke which is obviously raw fuel by the smell and look of it out exhaust I know HPOP probably still has some air in it but the HISS and the miss do not make since to me it didnt even miss when it needed injectors. I dont have IDS so I havent been able to run any tests or even properly pull codes. Looking for any ideas.
