robp823
I don't know if any of you guys out there have had to deal with this but it seems like i'm getting a lot more complaints about it lately. For example, I have an ambulance that the customer refuses to pick up because they are insisting there is a fuel leak. They say it fills there garage up with the smell and burns there eyes. Now i have been over and over this truck again and again and there is no leak what so ever.Let it run outside for 2 hours today and not one single drip from anywhere.Top of engine is bone dry everywhere.I have another guy that complains about the smell of exhaust in his f-350.I put exhaust manifold gaskets on this truck smoke tested numerous times and still complains of a smell.Does anyone else out there had similiar problems? Adam_Dodson
They say it fills there garage up with the smell and burns there eyes sounds normal to me... tell them to run it outside
Keith Browning
Aside from the known leaks - inspections and repairs should be straight forward. I have noticed over the years that trucks that don't run well and trucks that get too much idle time have really foul exhaust odors. For instance a truck with a bad ICP sensor that has been running poorly or has an EGR concern usually stinks. Post repair road tests produce lots of black soot and heavy smells. A truck that is allowed to idle a lot and is rarely driven in a way that the exhaust gets hot enough to burn off all of the crap that accumulates will stink as well. Just some thoughts. Bruce Amacker
Do you have a (4 or 5 gas) gas analyzer? There are tons of tests you can run looking for HC's under the hood and etc to narrow down the source of the "supposed" fumes quickly. GregKneupper
I have seen this problem several times with exhaust fumes in the cab. I only see it when running a/c on fresh air. I have tried everything and there seems that there is not much to do to repair this concern. And by the way it is not serious fumes that would knock you out or anything, just a faint smell of fumes.
