  1. Some of you might already know. If you get one of these don't follow the workshop manual and remove the intake. Get the cooler unbolted from the engine, disconnect the cac tubes and take out the 4 front cross member bolts that the motor mounts bolt to and sag it down 2 or 3 inches. It falls right out the driver side. Just be careful, the crank pulley will rest up against the cooling fan.
  2. No but I've done a few like that so now I'm worried. The question still stands... How the hell did they know if the part has not been sent back??
  3. I have run in to this also. Had one for interior lights flashing on and off. I was lucky to find it quickly from following the sound of the interior light relay clicking continuously.
  4. Thanks for the input. The fact that Cat does not produce on highway anymore was concerning but from what I have seen they seem to stay plenty busy. As far as I know I don't think they run a night shift so I wouldn't have to worry about that. They do have a few heavy equipment spots open and I'm thinking it may be the better route.
  5. Looking to make a job change and was wondering if anyone has any advise. I'm interested in a CAT dealer that has openings for on highway truck repair and heavy equipment repair. I also got a job offer for a trucking company that maintains a fleet of dump trucks and gravel slingers of various makes. Anything I should look for? From what I have read, being CAT certified is like gold but I don't know anybody directly with experience. I don't know what kind of manufacturer support they have as far as tools and diagnostics but they seem to stay busy(trucking company). They work on anything from light duty all the way up. The CAT dealer seems to have way better benefits but I have yet to interview. If have any recommendations or what to expect, how big of a change going from light duty in a dealer to heavy duty, pay etc. I know a lot of guys on here have a lot of different experience and would like some input. Thanks.
  6. You wanna cringe? Go on youtube and take a tour of his personal mustang collection worth 2 million dollars.
  7. I have read a lot of articles pertaining to this issue and this is probably the most on point out of all of them. Thanks for posting this article. It came at a great time seeing as how pissed off I am about last week. Worked 50-55 and ended up flagging 28 due to parts ordering wrong part and being pulled off to look at waiters which kept me from completing other jobs. I'm really getting sick of this shit.
  8. I would swap the pedal first and see what happens. I have replaced a couple not exactly for what is going on with truck in question but for intermittent sticking causing high idle and intermittent dropping out.
  9. I understand promoting unions was not your intention and I agree with you. Its a blame game between the dealers and the manufactures but in the end we are employees of the dealer owners and they should be taking care of the employees. From what I have been told by one of our local ASSET teachers, Ford has basically told dealer owners and principle management that this is your problem and you need to fix it.
  10. I read that article too. Pretty shitty to leave tool boxes out like that. I really do not think unionizing is the answer due to the simple fact that certain individuals will constantly abuse it. I know a lot of people may disagree but I think unions will bring in more headaches than everybody realizes. I would be fine to stay on flat rate but with a 40 hour guarantee. Going to hourly would be ok but it puts a cap on what you could possibly earn. As in the situation you describe Matt about all the bullshit you have to put with (babysitting, pulled off paying jobs, waiters etc). That's fine, management wants to run there service department like that but not at a technicians expense. I will go home at the end of the week with my guarantee.
  11. I left it unplugged. Customer was ok with it since its used as a backup and for special events. Thanks for the response.
  12. Have an ambulance in here with intermittent complete loss of power. Found throttle plate intermittently closing. If I unplug it the truck runs fine. I cant remember, is it ok to run it like this due to an old reprogram which I thought eliminated operation or should it be replaced? Parts says its discontinued.
  13. Most of the dealerships and Ford have no one else to blame but themselves. Same thing here, only reason I stay is because I know if I go to any other dealer in the area its going to be the same shit. Have had an offer to go work for the county with better benefits but the cannot match the pay I'm currently getting. Look at the message boards on PTS, Ford just released a video explaining the cut in labor times for recalls. Its going on all across the country. Another dealer close to mine has had to completely turn away diesel work due to there only guy quitting.
  14. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. My dealer is straight flat rate with no guarantee and nothing extra for training someone. We have been short staffed for a while now and management will pretty much hire anybody off the street and tell us to see what you can do with them. I have had 5 in the last 2 years and only one was going to make it. He worked with me for about 6 weeks and threw in the towel. He came from a Nissan store and wanted to try diesels but decided it wasn't for him. The rest were just not worth time and ended up hurting my pay because of the system I mentioned before. Finally told management I'm done with helpers. We are high volume and have enough diesel work for 2 guys most of the time but I rather be behind all the time than deal with the headache of babysitting.
  15. 16 F550 6.7 radiator and cooling fan. Covered in guts from an animal I have not identified yet. Smellin pretty ripe in the summer heat
  16. Just wanted to give an update, finally got the guy to give the ok for tear down. Pulled the front cover and found a pin hole leak in the front cover near the anti drain check ball passage that feeds the high pressure oil pump reservoir.
  17. So I just inherited this nightmare, its been to 3 different places including 1 other dealership. 02 F550 dump, guy just bought this truck off another guy who fought this issue for the last 2 years. Its had an O'Reilly oil cooler put on and the seals have been changed a couple of times and still ends up with the same issue. The dealer he took it to said it was cracked injector cups and replaced 3 of them. I don't see how there is anyway an injector cup will put oil in to the cooling system. I took the cooler down and looked at the header sealing surface where the smaller O-rings sit and found a small amount of pitting. I suggested to replace both headers and put a Ford cooler in it to rule that out. Flushed it twice and drove roughly 40 miles and found to be losing oil again. Has anybody ever seen a cracked block causing this? The guy is pissed because the guy he bought it from told him it was fixed so he went ahead and had an 8,000.00 dump bed up fit installed and the pressure is on to get this squared away. Oh, and he wants it fixed cheap. The only 2 other things I see causing this would be a crack or pinhole somewhere allowing pressurized oil to pushed into the cooling system, or possible a failed front cover gasket. Any thoughts or best way to determine where the leak is?
  18. Worked at a VW dealer for a year and I agree, there wiring diagrams are shit.
  19. I would be doing a manual compression test before anything else. If that checks out ok, like KDS said, check for metal in the fuel injector supply tubes before replacing any fuel system component.
  20. I would think so. If coolant can get into the exhaust side, it can circulate back through in to the cooling system.
  21. I called another supplier for the DieselSite kit and should work fine. Checked with parts, there isn't any difference with the input shafts. Kit comes with a driver installer and goes for about 90 bucks.
  22. Anybody know of a input shaft repair kit for a zf6 in a gasser? Called dieselsite and they said it would only work on a diesel. I thought the input shafts were the same.
  23. I would love to know how you break 4 7.3s in 120k. I gotta hand it do ya, you have a lot of patience. I would of quoted a drop in or go somewhere else.
  24. I thought about the possibility of timing issue but wouldn't that cause a running issue all the time? I thought if timing was off it would barely run or not run at all, power balance would be all over the place and so on.
