  1. Are there any indents anywhere that are shaped like the head of a bolt?
  2. Same here. Drilled a hole and put the clip on
  3. Another blown cold side cac tube and plugged dpf on a 6.7. Plastic piece of shit.
  4. switch or steering column module. It seems most common on 13 and up if I'm remembering correctly.
  5. fuel in the oil? Had a post about it a few months back, drove me nuts.
  6. Your not kidding Keith. Got a lot of family in Nassau county LI, its unreal what the cost of living is.
  7. Damn. 40 and hour. Never heard of any dealer techs getting that much. Around here 30 is usually the highest I've seen.
  8. Same here, have not had any serious dpf issues to diag on 6.7. Have a couple that I work on north of 250k.
  9. Got and f550 6.7 quit running, main and rod bearings, got it running and crank is moving around, oil coming out of front main seal and oil full of flake. 39k on odometer, 4200 hours. 12 e450 step van v10 engine locked up.
  10. Cant wait to see how much a 17 f450 crew dually 6.7 platinum or king ranch goes for.
  11. Its come down to this. A pickup truck payment is as much as a house payment.
  12. Did you check for metal in the injector supply tubes, rails etc. What is your low pressure system pressure reading and fuel inlet restriction?
  13. so anytime you have an upper o-ring coming apart its due to the fact that the oil rail nipple o-ring is shot? I've only come across an upper o-ring coming apart once and I just threw an injector in and shipped it. am I looking at repeat failure down the road?
  14. Thanks. Service manager got one through napa, another tech put plugs in it a year ago so he thinks were responsible. The tech who replaced the plugs is playing dumb and doesn't know how to do the job so its my problem now.
  15. Its in the 6.7 coolant flush procedure, it says to flush with "fresh water supply" and use hot water if you can, then fill with de-ionized water or distilled water to do the final flush, then drain again and fill with coolant and distilled or de-ionized water. We stock distilled water to fill with coolant also but I don't do the final distilled flush.
  16. spark plug blew out of cylinder 2, anybody know of a good tool kit to repair? I have the blue point kit for the triton engines but I don't know if this will work. the inserts are a lot deeper than the amount of threads in the head compared to the triton engines.
  17. One thing I did not see mentioned is water quality with which the coolant is being mixed with. I was told in school that we should always be using distilled or bottled water especially with motorcraft orange and not tap due to the amount of sediment in which caused the scale build up clogging passages. Instructor said that was a huge part of the problem with gm dexcool eating radiators and intake gaskets all through the 90s and early 2000s. I remember doing gm 3100 and 3400 intake gaskets constantly for the leaking gaskets when I was in the aftermarket for repeat leaks.
  18. Sad to hear that. Those were the best explorers by far in my opinion. Had a friend who had one make it over 300k.
  19. Yeah the problem as always is educating the customer. Had a 6.4 owner complaining about his oil being overfull all the time saying there was a problem. He changes it every 10k miles because that's what the owners manual recommends. I tried to explain to him about fuel in the oil from regen and dropping the intervals to 5k and so on. He looked at me like I was full of shit and hasn't been back. I think I dodged a bullet.
  20. I remember from school the instructor said orange mixed with anything else will turn the system to a brown muddy color and ruin the entire system, something like that. Its been a few years.
  21. Same here, cab and chassis failures only.
  22. Had on broken crankshaft, number 5 piston went through side of block, cracked hpfp housing and a few broken rocker arms. same as matt, had to take pictures of pistons hitting heads for long block approval. I was surprised that ford didn't really care about oil change records, truck had 15k but engine hours was closer to 50k. They said as long as the oil filter wasn't original they don't worry about it.
  23. Just got the decline by the customer on one that's been here for 2 weeks. Dead miss on 5, broken rocker arm, removed both valve covers and found every single rocker tip worn down(thought that was pretty impressive). High pressure turbo blowing oil, metal in fuel rails, cracked up pipes. Lack of maintenance, this thing is black inside, oil filter sucked in looks like an hour glass, priced an engine only had 84k on odometer.
  24. We have terrible management right now. All the good technicians are spread so thin right now and nobody that knows what they're doing is applying so they're filling up the shop with an army of dipshits who cause problems like this. We have lost 4 experienced techs over the last 2 years who have left the industry completely and this is what replaces them.
  25. Still employed. He was helping the tranny guys and they got sick of his screw ups. Left wheels loose, tightened trans. mount down on wiring harness on focus etc. Unbelievable.
