  1. 04 250 H-D. Vehicle is low on coolant, possibly injesting it, customer says he sees smoke, did not verify, but, I can smell it, level is low and system loses pressure, no external leaks. I am trying to remove the glow plugs, but the harnesses seem to be glued in. The only thing left of the harnesses are the plugs in the head. Anybody run into this and have some advise. This is the first time in some 100+ vehicles Thanks for any help. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif
  2. Hickock also offers a CAN module for NGS for around 800.00
  3. I know there was talk of replacing it w/ a long wheelbase Expedition, but that won't do. Simple fact is Ford will never overtake the GMC/Chevy Suburban in sales, you don't blow off a vehicle that has been in production since 1936. Don't get me wrong, I'd take the Excursion over the Giant Messa Crap any day, even w/ a 6.0L!
  4. Keith, I will look into it again, but if memory serves me correctly, as it is part of the HFCM[one cannot work w/o the other] it is a covered component. I have replaced them on trucks with as few as 10K and as many as 80K miles, and have not had the claims bounced by Ford. But hey, if you can sell it as a cash repair, by all means do so. I have always felt it falls under the lack of maintainence issue anyways, but if covering it under warranty scores me some points with the customer, all the better!
  5. Replace the plug? I just replace the whole cover! Warranty or cash, no matter. The cover is covered under 5/100, so I figure why fight w/ it. In fact I just got done w/ one, which is nice, because the customer is paying me to replace FFs at the same time.
  6. Has anyone had one of these lockup during an update reflash, then not accept any kind of programming? Keep in mind, this was a running vehicle. I have tried to reflash to the original PCM part#, the only thing getting flashed is the PCM. PMI has not worked either. Am I missing something? The hotline has suggested that some FICMs do not like reflashes, SOP a new one. I am setting U0105 & U0306, communication and software DTCs Thanks for any help! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  7. Our shop pays, only I haven't figured out where the times come from as they do not pay based on the length of time the course says it should be completed in. I believe the shop should pay your time, as it is usually what keeps them able to perform work[shop competency and all that]. I also believe that that it is up to the individual to decide whether they want to achieve a Specialty, a Masters, or be a PDI&lube tech all their lives. You can lead the horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
  8. For anyone who may be replacing the HPOP on an '05 and finds the discharge tube requires replacement the part # is 5C3Z-9C854-A. The part number is not correct in the CPD and HVBOM setups. If you order by that part number, you will recieve the tube for an '03/'04 even though the picture shows the correct part. As well, for those who have not replaced an HPOP in an '05, you will be pleased to know that the intake does not require removal. Order parts accordingly. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  9. Sorry guys, what I meant was the quick disconnect fitting[Ford calls it the feed tube] that attaches to the HPOP and bolts to the branch tubes. Central parts came up with the correct number, but it took a couple of days, and from what I understand, Ford has it D99, and only 6 dealers in the country show the part. My parts manager is working on it for me, and I will post the number on Monday, because it is not correct in the system
  10. Get this. I replaced an HPOP a couple of weeks back on an '03 250 crank no start, no problem. The customer picks up the truck, happy as a PIS. This week he calls wanting to know why I replaced his shiny tube with some fuzzy black thing. Fuzzy black thing? You mean the insulation around the CAC tube right? I don't know , he says, and whats a CAC tube? All I know is, it wasn't there when I brought in the truck, and the other dealers I have been to say it's not supposed to be there. Sir, I say; What I took off the truck I put back on, and in your case, the CAC tube was insulated, some are, some are not, your's is and always was. How does the truck run sir? Excellent, good, then what is the problem? You're buddy's 6.0L has a shiny tube I'm sorry, you need to talk with my service manager. How do you argue with this logic?
  11. Replacing the HPOP on an 05 and the feed tube fitting that feeds the branch tubes has questionable wear. This truck has an intermittent no start w/ no ICP pressure w/ it happens. the IPR was replaced and it passed the air leak test hence the pump, but I do not like the wear on the tube, problem is I got the old style feed tube for 03/04 and there is no change in numbers on CPD OR HVBOM. Anyone got any help for me? Thanks, Stephen. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  12. Keith, I'm sorry, I should have specified just the turbo setup on the upcoming 6.4L in the Super Duty. I assume that this will be what they use, or something very similar.
  13. Looking at the picture above leaves me with more questions than answers. How are they going to feed this thing exhaust gases in the current F-Series platform? Where is the fresh air intake and exhaust? Is there one wastegate for both turbos? I'll never see an LCF, hell I don't even see 650/750s which is fine, so my interest is in the F-series apps. I know this has already been figured out, but I'm dying to see it!
  14. I'm curious, were these covered repairs? Is there driver/owner stupidity coverage? What was the base concern, or were both so far gone it could not be determined? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer2.gif
  15. I have also seen this happen due to chaffing or rodent damage at the IPR connector. The circuit shorts on the IPR body and causes the fuse to pop. I can't tell you how many nests I've seen in the valley , but it's alot. Kinda falls along the lack of maint. issue. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif
  16. Going E to W isn't to bad, because of the lack of toll booths, but if I'm in Jersey, say at E-Town, I avoid the GW like the plauge. The problem is ,the Tappen Zee isn't much better. I feel your pain. The scuttlebutt was Somerville. I worked in the NY region for about a year and a half, so I got used to the drive, but I prefer the drive to Southboro MA. They just aren't holing any diesel classes.
  17. Yeah Ed, the picture is still up The instructor's name is John, can't remember his last name, young smart kid, comes out of the Philly area. I go back next month for diesel performance, so I can get full 6.0L certified and my diesel masters. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  18. I just got back from YTC and the instructor mentioned that the new setup will require cab removal and the vehicles they are seeing are equipped with quick disconnects to facilitate quicker cab removal. Has anyone else heard this? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif
  19. Keith, I have only delt with 2 of these and both were 7.3 powered. They were a '00 & '01.They were a custom order through the dealer I worked for at the time, though technically we were not a Quigly dealer.Funny thing is, the only problems I had to service on them outside of quickly worn out front brakes, were the typical 7.3 oil issues.I ran both of those shoeboxes to 90-95mph with no stability problems at all. You're right , they look cool.Maybe the 7.3 presented less of a technical challenge than the 6.0, therefore the quality of installation was better.Either way, a 6.0 should not be in any E-Series let alone one converted to four wheel drive.Just my 2 cents
  20. Absolutely not! At first Keith, I was not confident about lifting a cab, but like anything in life, once you do it, you wonder why you waited so long. I have repaired 3 trucks now doing cab removal and for the ease of access to the engine it was worth it. The customers saw their trucks in this manner and were not freaked out about it, and each of them realized and said "Whats the difference, thats how it's put together on the assembly line." I see those customers fairly regularly and none have complaints. Answer me this; How is it we are qualified to repair one of the most advanced and complicated diesel engines produced today, but are to stupid to R&R a cab or full body properly? I can not say it is any faster to R&R the cab, but I will say that access to the engine and its components is easier, as well as easier on the human body, especially this 41yr old model. As far as I am concerned, Ford can take their picture and their advise, stick it in their ass and rotate! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif
  21. Granted, part of the job is done when replacing the HPOP, BUT, how can you not get paid for R&I of the cover ,swaping the w/p, installing the oil pump, etc, etc. I had to replace it because the heater core return pipe was siezed in the cover and got damaged in the process of moving it out of the way for access to the intake. I mean, does this make any sense? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smhair.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
  22. Question, How does one get paid for replacing a front cover when you are in the process of replacing a HPOP. Ford has the labor ops as overlapping Has anybody got an answer? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif
  23. No problem with the front cover at all, thanks Keith for the advice! One question though; How do you hold the damper while trying to turn the bolts the additional 90 dgrs? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif
  24. Since this is my first cover removal, my question is ; Where exactly am I supposed to cut the sealent? When it says upper & lower crankcase, do they mean the block and bedplate? I know it was in the 6.0 course, but I took that a year ago, and my brain has long since fried! It doesn't even show you in the 6.0L bible, and I have all of them. Thanks for the help guys, just trying to avoid any additional work. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  25. This just plain old sucks. Funny thing is I am currently replacing the harness in an 04 550. One the local truck dealer said they did, but DID NOT!! This truck has been to 5 different dealers between CT & FL. and no one was able to fix it or verify it, LAZY F*@KS, ALL OF THEM ! And to think some prick got paid to lie, and some clown at another local dealer said "I know something is wrong with it, but I don't know what" Needless to say I have halted the install, i'll be damned if I replace this one again, because this harness may still have issues. 7 minutes till the hotline opens. God I hate my job! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif
