  1. I don't get any days off! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crybaby2.gif If I got 10 days off they would have to retrain me when I got back.
  2. Definetly one of the best tools in my arsenal. One example, truck came in Friday with no pedal response ('02 F-550 7.3L) tech found the pedal to be bad and replaced it. Truck came back Monday with same symptom, owner said the fix lasted about an hour. Original tech has the day off and I get the truck. Check it over and it has another bad pedal...uh /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif Just for shits and giggles I decide to run oasis and I put the codes I pulled into the symptom area. It comes back with a message for all the codes I have saying it could be a chaffe problem at the left front shock tower. I go to that area and low and behold the signal return wire for the pedal is rubbed right thru. Fixed her all up and she was good to go. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
  3. Ford said the samething about the original powerstroke when it came out. But I have lost count of how many trucks I drained the tanks on, added lubricity additive and changed the fuel filter that are still on the road purring away. Total cost about $200.
  4. Quote: Did it work???, Thats Genius if it does It worked slick, but I can't take credit for the idea. Chuck Gregory from International came down to help me with a 7.3l and he gave me the idea. At the time 7.3 liters were plentiful and finding a good truck to hook up to was quite easy but now not so much, they are kind of scarce. I tell ya the tool used to shave off some serious diag time and guessing.

  9. Quote: i had a civic in yesterday with 620000km on the clock Only reason the guy still has it is because it probably still gets 40+ miles to the gallon.
  10. Quote: All they can say is no right? You said it!! I hate the service advisors that think they balance the customers check book. Had one yesterday, the guy needed an air intake snorkel which was split. Advisor told me the customer wasn't gonna spend anymore money and didn't even call the guy. What??? The only bill he was responsible for was the $100 deductible.
  11. If you can get the cab off quickly, then the actual repair is a breeze. So beating the time shouldn't be a problem.
  12. Quote: TSB 07-26-2 6.4L - INTERMITTENT NO START / LACK OF POWER - DTC P0003 AND/OR BLOWN FUSE 74 - BUILT PRIOR - 8/20/2007 Publication Date: December 13, 2007 FORD: 2008 F-Super Duty ISSUE: Some 2008 F-Super Duty vehicles built prior to 8/20/2007 equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine may exhibit a lack of power or no start with possible DTC's P0003, P0004 and P0091 caused by circuit CBB12 at the high pressure pump gasket grounding to the high pressure pump body (may also result in fuse 74 being blown). ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE Unplug connector C1926 near the high pressure fuel pump cover. Check pin 4 green/white and pin 2 yellow wires for a short to ground. If either one is shorted to ground, remove the high pressure fuel pump cover and replace the pump cover gasket/harness that contains the grounded wire ONLY. The high pressure fuel pump does not need to be removed and replaced. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04C. When removing the low pressure fuel lines and high pressure fuel tubes from the high pressure pump, use a back up wrench on the high pressure pump fittings to make certain that the fittings are not loose as the cap nuts and high pressure fuel tubes are removed (this may cause a fuel leak). When installing the new high pressure pump cover gasket/harness, verify that the VCV wires are wrapped in either high temperature convolute or a mesh style abrasion wrap. When making electrical connections to the high pressure fuel pump, pull the connectors to verify connectors are locked in place. PART NUMBER PART NAME 8C3Z-9G805-A Kit-Cover Fuel Pump WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage IMPORTANT: Warranty coverage limits/policies are not altered by a TSB. 13. Larry, these recalls can be a fence post for alot of dealers, it's really amazing to me. Some dealers will capatalize and others will moan and groan and suffer thru the ordeal. I knew of a dealer in Huntersville NC, just out side of Charlotte that took full advantage of the Firestone tire recall fiascoe and made a KILLING. They offered a tire (road hazard) warranty at a very modest fee which is gravy on the top, and sold untold numbers of NEEDED brake jobs, ball joints, axle seals, ect. At my old dealer we had a tech who we called total recall. He signed up for every type of recall that came in the door, then pulled every wheel. No needed work got by this guy. He could sell something to a guy with an '88 Escort with a gagillion miles on the clock in for an ignition switch recall.
  14. Here in the state of Vermont, once a truck has been in service for 10 miles or so they won't come out without breaking. I don't even try to salvage them. Our parts dept has drawers full of these things.
  15. Tsb for 6.4l blowing fuse 74. New gasket kit 8C3Z-9G805-A, but you still have to check to make sure the wires are covered with some sort of protection. labor op 072602A, labor time 8.4 hrs.
  16. I would check the pid status with IDS P0730_00 thru P0730_15. This will tell you if a clutch system failed on or off. Then if the battery was not disconnected during first trans swap, I would do so to clear the memory. The negative cable must be removed to do this, no other way. Then I would start from scratch and see what happens. Sounds hoaky but I have seen simpler things fix electrical problems.
  17. That's nice to hear, 'cause when I did mine I didn't even consider putting a pump in it.
  18. George Carlin would be proud of your list of naughty words, Keith.

  20. I think that looking at ICP_V as well as any other voltage pid (versus) the inferred reading is gonna be the norm pretty soon. It's kinda like the natural progression from checking a wire with an ohm meter to doing a voltage drop test to even take it further by load testing the wire. I like to call it the "burn your fingers blind your eyes" test because I use a high beam halogen bulb.
  21. I have noticed in my area that once she's outta warrany she's outta the dealer.
  22. I wouldn't reccomend taking those three brake lines loose, it's not neccesary. I don't take any drain plugs out of the block either, I have a fluid evacuator and once the heads are off you can get more coolant out of the block than conventional methods.
  23. I check everyone here in Vermont and 99% are dead on. I treat it like the correlation pids which I also check on everyone, map-ebp-baro.
  24. When I drove the truck in, the sway bar sounded like it was gonna fall out. Then I was told that I can't use a lift to pick it up because the truck had a lift kit in it but the dink didn't extend the brake lines...... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
