  1. This does not necessarily relate to any particular engine or single model year. I recently had to deal with a 2010 F250 with inoperative wipers and heater blower motor. I discovered the ignition feed for those items was chafed and cut but on the right side of the radiator support directly opposite of this and I accessed it by removing the inner fender well. Fortunately I remembered this post!
  2. That one from Grainger looks like it will do what we need perfectly. I can get the upper ball joint fittings most of the time on 4X4 trucks. For whatever reason other times I cannot and that little handy dandy tip looks like it will slide right in there perfectly.
  3. Sarah Palin and Michele Bachman embarrassing? Not to this American conservative.
  4. Liquor eh? Hmmm, NJ is a little far from where you are but I'll be there as soon as I can! By the way, what is goin on up there?
  5. Very true. What most people do not realize is that these tablets are little more than oversized smart phones that can't make cellular phone calls. The Windows 8 tablets do offer an advantage in that while the operating system is still a mobile OS it is close to the "actual" Windows 8 and does provide many advantages over Apple and Android based tablets which in their own right offer benefits that overshadow the Windows 8 tablets. Again, it depends on what you want it to do. They key is to first determine what you want or need the tablet for and what you need it to do. THEN do your research.Dell offers some lap-top models that "convert into a tablet configuration which is kind of nice. I can see a new segment of the market developing or coming as technology continues to evolve and that would be micro laptops or a true tablet with a true PC operating system and true PC capabilities. It is only a matter of time. I would love a tablet with a tough case that could run IDS with the wireless link... provided it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
  6. No... and yes. Back in the late 1990's to about 2003 Internet explorer had a Mac version that was replaced by Safari. In light of that, now you can run Windows and PC software on a MAC that involves partitioning the hard drive and using software that will facilitate this. One of the most popular because it allows seamless integration and allows Windows and Mac to run side by side is http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/ so I would definitely say that you have options. You just need to do a little research because it CAN be done.
  7. And - I am pretty sure I have oscilloscope screenshots of every possible network failure type to make us our own full color job aid. The WSM and training material have small black and white pics. Aside from that I opened up the time scale a litte to show more detail in the network signals.
  8. BINGO! :rockon:Thank you Mike. First thing this morning I pulled off the sill trim and then the kick panel trim on the left side. There are two legs of the HS-CAN network in that part of the harness. I found the white wire Circuit# VDB05 (HS-CAN -) just rubbed through on the bottom of the trim. Add a little dirt build-up, a lot of moisture and ice melting rock salt and you have a path to ground.
  9. Have a 2011 6.7L equipped truck towed in that would not crank, every warning light and message lit up and had a handful of network Communication DTC's in just about every module. All modules involved are on the HS-CAN network. I started diagnostics with the Oscilloscope and wasted a lot of time with my IDS crashing and manually entering the vehicle then trying to familiarize myself with using the scope again and what I was looking at by sampling a known good truck. Long story short I had to take care of some other trucks and the truck sat in the shop overnight and "fixed itself" which usually suggests a wiring concern but I have no data to go on with the scope and I cannot trust the codes because somebody got to the truck before me and disconnected stuff. At this point I was able to start a new IDS session and properly ID the vehicle, cleared all codes, road tested and performed a self test on all modules and of course all passed. It's a matter of time before the fault repeats and I can re-scope the HS-CAN network and figure it out... Anyone find anything crazy with these yet?
  10. FMC Dealer only works with MSIE web browser. Internet Explorer is exclusively for Windows operating systems... Apple products come pre-loaded with Safari. iPads, iPods and iPhones use APP versions of programs and there is no Internet Explorer to download from iTunes. If you go to iTunes and search for Chrome you can download it and try and see if it works for ya.... doubt it will though.
  11. COme to thinkk of it I did put t-stats in a 6.7 for this concern and the temps here were not anywhere near -15. Fixed it though.
  12. I know a winter cover was an option/accessory for 2008-2010 trucks with a 6.4L engine. I recall doing PDI's on some finding the cover in the truck so I assume there was an option for it. Thought it was odd for a truck here in NJ as it rarely ever gets cold enough for them. I don't recall seeing them in 2011's or newer. Hopefully somebody else knows better...
  13. Well I remembered this post... but it won't work on a 6.7L. Have a tow in with a no crank pull over safely message on dash. EGT 1-4 was erratic. Unplugging or shorting had no effect on the no start condition... or was supposed to do that for each ET? LOL! Yeah, I know - this is the 6.4L forum.
  14. Wow dude that sucks! Glad you are okay and your truck does not look too bad. Could have been worse.
  15. I am at a point now that when asked I WILL recommend this to customers - they can order it and I will install it.
  16. Well, the only reason for them to be replaced is because they broke or the EGR valve is seized in them so they are not really worth anything monetarily... unless they want to see why... which is BS after all this time. Perhaps they want to stop techs from just throwing one at trucks "just because" as warranty control.
  17. Chocolate & Bacon on a Steeeek... Need I say more?
  18. I was told by a Hot-Line Engineers, one of the diesel guys (good ones) that they get a lot of information from us. Ford sometimes has no idea there is a developing problem until they start getting reports and feedback from the technicians in the field. This is understandable
  19. Same customer: Just rolled in with his 2011 F550.... same problem.
  20. Rusted causing delamination resulting in a plugged pick up... DTCs for low fuel pressure and low FRP. When is this insanity going to end??? There is a brand new Dodge Ram cassis cab sitting just outside my door. It has a big beautiful plastic aft axle tank. WTF FORD!!!
  21. Just out of curiosity how do they know it's hitting 47 PSI?
