  1. wow that sucks. what was the customers reaction?

fire is a nasty thing and even it it isnt burned the water or smoke damage causes just as much damage.

I havent seen too many shop fires expect for a guy that decide to do a wiring repair with a mini torch next to an open fuel tank. of course it ignited and burned the tank, lines, etc. he got it put out quick.

I have seen several vehicles dropped from the hoists. that makes one hell of a noise when standing in the room next to where its dropped.

glad to hear no one was hurt and you still have most of your shop there. how is business flowing?

  2. I have problems with these trucks as well. we have a fleet of 350s from the air force base that are used as tugs. they are limited to 35mpg(found that out the hard way pulling into traffic!) they also use a grade of bio or whatever is on base so that doesnt help. they never get enough heat or boost to clean themselves out. We has one that was so extreme that it burned a whole in one of the pistons.

I dont think these will ever be fixed with this type of use.

  3. on the note of the 7.3 warrenty not paying its to be expected. Ford pretty much knows all the short cuts and has knocked down the time. it will happen to the 6.0 as time goes by as well. we can get over 6hours for an injector now but Im not sure for how much longer. its about like the 30+hr headgasket jobs too. Even being legit and all the times will fall sooner or later. On the flip side they are offset by the next generation of vehicles too. you just have to figure out how to make money on them.

  4. So I knew these things where huge but damn you gotta have one out to really see how monsterous it is. Its almost a 2 man operation lifting it out.

It took me a little over an hour to get it out for my first time. its kinda a pain but not all that bad. everything is bolted to that stupid thing it seems. you have to unbolt and flop all the coolers out of the way.

anyway just thought I would share my impression of the thing. everyone that walks by is impressed with it and asks what its out of.

  5. I have seen people jump ship due to the 6.4. They want nothing to do with it.

I think jims theory is spot on, those old timers that know how to work on those horrible things called carberators have trouble keeping up with the latest and greatest technology on the road

  6. wow larry Im suprised the dealer cleaned that. Most times they have a company capable of handling biohazzard clean that up.

seems ironic since I posted this thread the first truck I get is a 550 with a sanitation rig on the back of it. It wont start and is about half full of poop. Its sticking up my bay and shop. glad we have the doors open today /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crybaby2.gif

  7. Man, I have had it easy over the years! I stumbled upon a dildo under the driver's seat of an Escort which I didn't care for but it was easier to deal with than the barrel of a handgun pointed at me from under the seat of a pickup. I was under the dash when I saw it. I am not a fan of loose weapons, particularly those that are bouncing around loose in vehicles.

When i worked in the car shop i came across stuff like that all the time. The best was a compliant of a weird noise from under the seat. turns out he dildo getting turned on and off under the seat when driving.

I also had a t-bird that was piled up to the windows with trash and a bucket of half eaten chicken wings baking with the windows up in 115 degree Arizona summer.

  8. Well I double checked everything again and made sure the network was ok. I got a good cluster in it and took care of some of the problem but not all. I ended up swaping another processor in it with the good cluster and it fixed it. seems the welding on the frame took out the scp newtwork within the pcm and cluster.

now i just need to wait for god nows how long to get a pcm from the vender. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

  9. Are you telling us this truck will not initiate or pass the network test?

It makes my IDS go dumb. I mean it messes it up to the point I have to reboot to even get it to work on another truck. It will not even get to the point of communicating with anything.

yes Jim thats why I never sold anything yet. I have enough trucks tore apart I have parts laying around. I was able to swap everything over real quick one at a time. At least I know thats not a problem so it has to be wiring somewhere.

It has an digital odo. It does display mileage however the tach is inop, both temp gauges trans and engine inop, check engine light is one, air bag light is on, and no something is beeping uncontrollably.

I will try the selftest in the morning for the ICM then I guess its time to start tracing wires! and if that doesnt work then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/flamethrower.gif it

  10. I have had several do that to me. I have also have the top two bolts break completely off and the top of the injector came out with the oil rail. I have had to go fishing for the broke pieces of bolts too which is not fun. make sure you get it all since if not it will go straight through the gerotor pump and destroy it along with the front cover
